how many 21 year olds today in music, would dare to take on a Cohen song like this. I'm not suprised Aurora did because she is simply outstanding and abundantly talented. Every song she sings she becomes a part of it.
Robert lindsay/ like #23 chaos finds this mysteriously / i know Aurora like i know myself/ a very lost sense of reliability/ its the one we always want to see that allows us to always be what we wanted to be / i am the nothing that goes unheard for my pain is without wanting/ no song could save little boy lost from the wolves whos blooodthirty hunger was at but a loss / my trouble is not beautiful but sad / thank you aurora you where the best chance i had.
Robert lindsay Maybe the answer is stoping being ageist. Give global youth a try. We try. Sincerely from another "21" person that listen to music among the others
it's a shame leonard didn't get to perform by aurora's side before he died, i'm sure he would have had a very special place in his heart reserved for her, as we all do, nothing couldn't make me happier right now than seeing them perform together
Leonard found me with this song..it's strange Aurora found me with the same song. I cried a long time alone in my room the morning my mother told me he had gone, now I cry listening to him too., especially Suzanne and Anthem with the video.I feel connected somehow listening to this.
When I saw that Aurora had covered this song I thought she had made a mistake, much as I love her voice, I didn't think it would work. I got that wrong! This is absolute genius, she lives and breathes passion and meaning into every word. Beautiful interpretation of Cohen's poetry. Gave me chills.
One of my favourite Cohen songs. She brings another quality to this song and I am sure Leonard would have appreciated her rendition. This song must be fifty years old. I recall hearing Cohen for the first time. In 1971 I was fourteen years old and blown away by the album, in particular this song and Joan of Arc. It opened my ears to real poetry but also loss and tragedy. Superb.
How exquisite! Her delicacy and luminescence is painfully breathtaking. It’s so rare for someone so young to touch so deeply something which a lifetime of living earns you ... a broken heart, a longing, a passion in embers. Aurora quietly lights those fires. Bravo!
Young girl, old soul. I found her when I was looking for Bowie's 'Life on Mars' a few weeks ago and absolutely love her cover of that. Love this one too, my favorite LC song. I'll have to start checking out some of her original stuff.
Goob2112 yes, she is old soul. People who say she is childish do not understand...she keeps her innocence while embracing the shadow part of herself and the world auround her...
Goob2112: I found Aurora only a week ago, and have been mesmerised by her voice. If you haven't already found it, her November 2017 concert in the Nidarosdomen Cathedral is absolutely gorgeous, and she sings lots of her original songs, plus the cover of Life on Mars too. th-cam.com/video/XXVwFvkNTEg/w-d-xo.html
I was introduced to her music with her cover of half the world away and I've been loving her ever since. Normally I would prefer the original but this and half the world away are both rare occasions where I like the cover better
Look up Aurora & Wardruna singing Helvegen live. You will absolutely love it. That was the first time I heard her (last week or two?) It completely blows me away. I've been listening to all her other stuff, but that Helvegen is just... You'll see! Much Love!
I love aurora myself, but it's platonic love. It's like loving her look, soul, voice. You want to hug her, adore her voice, talk to her and listen to her soft ASMR voice. My girlfriend loves her too. We can't stop listening to her. No other band or artist can break us away form her right now.
Paweł Starzyk well said. Something about her draws you into a place that changes you. She's so full of universal energy I find it hard to put in words. That feeling she induces in your heart and soul makes you realize how empty both have been up to the point in time where you first heard her voice and saw her sing. She is absolutely stunning. I've been telling people that the best way I could describe it is, she makes me feel like i felt when I fell in love for the first time.
She has the same effect on 99% of people, they love her respect her and feel her an amazing person ,with anunblievable talent and voice a pure musiician,no ego ,we love you Aurora
There are not many artists that may even think of covering Cohen and make it something slightly good. AURORA is the only one I know making the song hers in a special way. I love Cohen and I love AURORA. thank you for this gift
She has covered legends like Bob Dylan's Mr. Tambourine Man, John Lennon's Across The Universe, David Bowie's Life On Mars, Simon and Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair. Now Leonard Cohen's Famous Blue Raincoat and So Long Marianne. She nails it all. Truly an old soul 💜 I hope she covers Joni Mitchell as well.
When this was starting I was thinking Suzanne! Suazanne! But ya can't go wrong with Famous Blue Raincoat. I love everything this girl sings. What a conduit she is of The great spirit.
I'm not a huge Cohen fan, but I consider "Famous Blue Raincoat" to be an impossibly beautiful song, and hope that it is always performed with the respect it deserves. Aurora's version here is completely stunning. She is beyond talented; she is truly gifted. She is a visionary, an artist and a true original. This reading of a difficult Cohen classic is so amazing.
You can tell Aurora was somewhere else throughout that whole song. The way she let her self go, the way she looks with her eyes.. closing her eyes. Reason why I was drawin into her 🤩🤌🏽.
Thanks for sharing, so nice. Saw her twice live late last year (London and NYC). Can't believe how much more grown she is in just one year, so beautiful. Pray for her to return to NYC area. She's just really great. Thank you Aurora.

Didn't know this was a Leonard Cohen song; previously had only heard Damien Rice's cover of it. Recently found Aurora and am loving it; even though I am the most depressed I've ever been I can try to look forward to good music in the future. Aurora, Radical Face, Mili. New stuff from them will be some of the things that keep me going.
Such a beautiful song, she covered it stunningly. I would love to hear her cover Karen Carpenter songs someday,... that would blow my mind for Shure. (Rainy days and Mondays)... I can already hear her singing it in my head.
it makes me so sad to see so many bad comments about the way she performs. she does this all the time, the hands, the eyes, the arms. she's not being disrespectful towards cohen because that'd means she's being disrespectful towards her own art

Leslie Murray I try but all my friends just think my music taste is depressing. I guess it is, lol. But it's just so beautiful and no one understands. Which is kinda sad because I want them to feel the way I feel when I listen to stuff like this.
I understand you perfectly. Too many people think that when the melody is not fast enough or not catchy, it means that it is depressing. But I don't feel that way (except when I'm sad ahah) I just feel relax, calm and happy with this kind of songs. It's just deep music...
Lucas.MBH I know! I don't feel sad either. It soothes and takes you to another place. For me it helps tap into my creative side too. And it isn't quite depressing, despite being sad.
Been a musician for 45yrs and I've never seen anyone embrace a song as she does...
Then why don't you try Ane Brun. Which, I think, is Aurora's favorite artist
@@laluba3603 Aurora is a better storyteller, but Ane Brun is a great artist

There is no one I would trust more with a Leonard Cohen song than this young woman.
The way she makes music, it's like it works out the knots that built up in my heart; almost in a "hurts so good" kinda way :)

Lyrics
It's four in the morning, the end of December
I'm writing you now just to see if you're better
New York is cold, but I like where I'm living
There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening
I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert
You're living for nothing now, I hope you're keeping some kind of record
Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear
Did you ever go clear?
Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older
Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder
You'd been to the station to meet every train, and
You came home without Lili Marlene
And you treated my woman to a flake of your life
And when she came back she was nobody's wife
Well I see you there with the rose in your teeth
One more thin gypsy thief
Well, I see Jane's awake
She sends her regards
And what can I tell you my brother, my killer
What can I possibly say?
I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you
I'm glad you stood in my way
If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me
Well, your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free
Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes
I thought it was there for good so I never tried
And Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night that you planned to go clear
Sincerely, L Cohen
