Australia to Japan - CW summits on the air (SOTA) activation

  • CW at 18 WPM using Yaesu FT-891 operating at 30W, FC-50 antenna tuning unit, 12.8V 12Ah LiFePO4 battery and end-fed random wire antenna comprising 22m long radiator as an inverted-v and 9:1 unun.
    Summits on the air (SOTA) activation of Mt Elliot (VK2/HU-093) located on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Activation on Saturday 14 January 2023. Three contacts to Japan operating on 15m (21.062 MHz) and 10m (28.062 MHz).

    Summer 2022 I didn’t understand any cw. Now every park and summit for the past 5 months have been cw. Your videos have helped A LOT. Great activation, cheers.

    very nice James ,,,, your cw really help me to learn cw , and i upgraded my call sign to general class from restricted grade (vu3izj to vu2mzt )

    James, that 15m & 10m on the DX on Japan was a bit hard with QRM and copy was so low on CW. Good job mate and the radio is working great now Yaesu 891. Thanks for a good working conditions with the video, and it did not raining HIHI 73 44 de Dennis vk4oc.

      The last contact was certainly very challenging due to the QRM and QSB. There were powerlines and houses nearby which could have been the source of the noise. It started to get cloudy during the activation but luckily it did not rain. Thanks again Dennis, 73
