As for that first story, I understand having the feels bad having a huge chunk of your army evaporated early on, especially as a wolf player myself. Yet I would never rage quit let alone leave a buddy stranded. Best thing would see what the next turn brings, might have just as a dramatic change in luck. If not, you can just cordially concede and maybe just rerack for a new game.

I've only left the table when the opposing player is uncouth and rude. Treating the game like a homicide interrogation.
Made up a family emergency lie.I've only had to do it once.

When I was first getting into 40k in the late 2000s, my main inspiration for wanting to play was seeing the multiple amazing game tables in my local GW store and all the games & action people were having in-store. Some of my best gaming memories are the early games I had in-store too. Now it feels like the gaming aspect of the hobby is incredibly gatekept from newcomers by GW itself, like its some big mysterious game that you must drop a load of money on before you're allowed to properly try it yourself.

Funny North I am a newcomer to the hobby, about 1 year now in the states (4 armies help), and this was all interesting to hear. When I first started I did go into a GW store and I asked if I could buy the starter sets, learn how to build, and maybe a practice game. They did that all for me and it was a good experience. I asked if I could play here then or what I would need to play. They looked at me with the most cold suspicion and said no. I didnt get it at the time but now after hearing all this thats really sad. Thankfully here in Sacramento Warhammer has a really strong community so our LGS stores pick up the slack. Its no wonder to me then that the GW store is a ghost of a store thats essentially dead. All of the LGSs let people play there for free, have community nights, and even a midnight launch of leviathan with free food and games till 3AM. Honestly its a community thing now where if someone is new to the hobby you do your best to direct them away from the GW store at this point. Its just interesting to me that with the death of GW stores you see the rise of LGSs.

I’ve met corporate people with social science degrees in and out of college. Most of the ones who become corpos were eternally seething mental midgets and I always loved when our professors had the humanities majors edit their papers, because their department and egos were heavily overfunded and we’d go over everything wrong with their writing. These people moaned about reading twenty pages over two days and it showed. If you’re a humanities major in college, you do or will know what I’m talking about.

My writing was/has always been bad. But I got a kick when my style was described as combative.
Somehow, I managed to weaponize words on paper/ screen.
      Made me laugh.

@@gabrielpardo4229 Fellow History Major here. Historians are either angry, alcoholic, or angry alcoholics, because we see the mistakes of mankind writ large for all to learn lessons from and very few people do. Of course your papers sound combative.

Either I assumed, or was told a long time ago, that in warhammer world, the models on display are the ones that are used for codexes and and so on, so sometimes a few are missing because they're being used by the photographers and so on. But by the sounds of it, a lot of stuff has been removed more permanently, mainly the older stuff.

I've not yet been to Warhammer World, but one of the main reasons I wanted to go was to check out all the classic Oldhammer. Seems a bit crap if it's just a big Warhammer shop now.

I remember when my old local GW store used to have an upstairs section in the early/mid 2000s that had like 6 gaming tables with some terrain. There would always be people up for a game and spending time in store gaming would actually make me want to pick up something. Staff were so knowledgable about the game too. Took a break of about 12 years or so and went back into one a couple of years ago. In that time they'd gotten rid of the gaming stuff and now just sold models and paints. I went to their release day thing for Age of Darkness last year and they were actively telling people to go round the corner to a flgs and play there.
Seriously, imagine a company that sells everything you need to game at the vast sums they sell things for... with their own employees actively telling people to game elsewhere. Boggles the mind. Now I do most of my buying online, only going into stores when impulse buying a contrast paint or something.

I haven't played since my 5th child was born almost 6 years ago. I have been painting up a new army and fresh Battle Foam bag to carry it in and this is just sad to hear. I did go into a GW a couple a months ago and heard something similar from the 1 guy working there. Local gaming clubs are the best thing in Europe, they are hard to come by in the USA. This attitude will cause the company to fail and I guess it is why they are pushing IP stuff in movies, shows etc finally, to try to save some part of the company. With 3D printing and other paint companies, they have a bleak future with this attitude.

ive just been to Nerd Mecca this weekend (Crit ops killteam tourny) i absolutely adore the Exhibition area and spend hours in there on Sunday after the tourny finished. I agree Room 1 with the Sigmar stuff is 90% Sigmar, but they have displays with the historical stuff in them (the different editions of GW games from the 80's to now) and I understand they only have so much room in the building (god I'd love a whole room dedicated to Lord of the Rings (the battle of Osgiliath Diorama is absolutely stunning). Anyways I just wanted to say I in no way felt underserved in the Exhibition and well looked after by the staff there. Can't wait for my next visit.

If the stores don’t have any games, they might as well close down. Paying an extra 10-20% compared to other retailers would be worth it if it meant keeping the lights on for people to play games.

      Aye!
Mike in my Finnish point of view also feels like the reinkarnated embodyment of a character (as well as the real person inspired from) in a 50s novel "Unknown Soldier".
"Rokka Antero" was the name of the character in the book, who was a veteran of 1939-1940 winter war who had commanding officers younger than him, similarly to legendary Mike in this story.

I agree with guy who wrote the Warhammer World story.
I want to WHW twice, in the late 90s and mid 2000s and I really enjoyed the displays. Big Toof River, the undead attack on the empire city and numerous old classics why are they all missing now?
I went there again this year and was so disappointed, it's just a 3d advert for what you can buy now.
And don't get me started on the awful tables available for playing on, they could not compare to the classic boards of the previous visits that you could play on and that had actually been featured in White Dwarf.
    I guess that's GW "progress".

Our Warhammer group has been playing more OnePageRules as of late.
I decided to switch gears, myself, and I picked up painting my Daemons army that was intended for Heresy, which we still don't have the rules for and they've told us twice now they're putting in the finishing touches. Which I'll believe that when someone else in the community puts out a set of rules that people like and GW steals it like what happened with Militia. Community version comes out, a month later GW finally puts theirs out and it's almost 100% a copy paste.

  • @apacheandy

I'm currently getting back into 40k (played 3rd-4th, 6th-7th) and looking at the rules it seems that GW no longer encourages people to kit bash/convert things. Units can only use things that come with them in the box and some units are monopose with fixed weapons (Ork Tank bustas) which is retarded. Why the hell are they fixated on Monopose crap? Also Does anyone know when GW went from the 80% Model rule for Tournaments to this 100% of the model must be GW?

hhhmmm the managers flip out at the end kinda makes me think *puts tinfoil hat on*. Since the Primaris era ive beeen feeling more and more like im not the target audience for them anymore, a guy who has been into warhammer 40k since the early 90s. They seem bent on getting the new younger WiDeR aUdIeNcE at the expense of the older customers. And if they are pulling that kinda shit on the management level hiring young pricks with social science degrees lol its all kinda making sense and making me think how bad the hobby is gonna be when it really hits "main stream" status with tv shows etc. Fuck. :(

Take a look at what happened with comics, Star Wars, Dr Who and Star Trek. It’s our turn next. All the people that kept the hobby going for 40 years? They don’t want us anymore.
GW will chase away their core audience for ESG points, then wonder in 5 years why they are losing money hand over fist.
