    The inconsistencies between the movies is due to Miller's belief that each film is supposed to be a story told at a post apocalyptic camp fire. That's why Max has his car and seems to be young even though it has been years since the apocalypse.

      I personally like the idea that max is an idea, that the max from the first 3 is the same, but he died and this max took his name, though that does kinda fuck the fact that he say the bad guy from the first film so fuck it, who actually knows?

      Also, it looked like he was just running on adrenaline at that point. They literally called him feral before, and that shot kinda proved them right. Like, I’m not sure if he *could* speak at that moment. Like he was kinda too hopped up and could only work out grunts and stuff as a result

    Mad Max: Fury Road is a prime example of what action cinema should be if not cinema in general: it is visual storytelling.

      Watch The Overcoat on youtube. The silent film. Even though it has Russian sub titles, you don't need them. Amazing film. Great actors in it we've never seen before...or again. Great screenplay writing doesn't have a lot of dialogue. Raymond Chandler learned a great deal writing Double Indemnity with Billy Wilder. He realized he was a novel writer, and not a screenplay writer. After about a year he said one of his best scenes he wrote only had someone mumbling. Because he wrote so much into the looks on the faces. Read Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent. The most cinematic writing I've ever come across. Not the dialogue. The presentation. A master. Really in a class by itself.

    I actually love the lack of explanations in the movie. Mostly this is due to the visuals being so damn good that I can piece together a general outline for what happened in the backstory, and then get on with the meat of the main story.
    As for why the people rip apart Joe, my interpretation is that some of them wanted to kill him, others wanted a piece of their holy icon. Because as it was pointed out, he did give the people water, albeit in a stingy way. What surprised me the most about Joe was that he was a smart villain. When he could've shot Organic Mechanic for playing with his dead son's umbilical, he didn't. Because Organic is apparently a good doctor. He keeps Corpus Callosum around as an advisor, and he genuinely cares for the Warboys, even if it's in a utilitarian sense.

    Uh Decker the point of the movie or one plot point is that Max doesn't speak or says very little because the countless years in the Wasteland where everyday could be his last has made him essentially a feral animal.
    He even mentions it in the monologue, where he says people have been reduced to a basic instinct, survive. Hence the reason he doesn't speak, since he's more animal than man.

    The harshest truth about the use of mostly practical effects and stunts is knowing that at least 2 real world Interceptors (Ford Falcons) were destroyed.
    Of course like most things these days, everything is either black or white, we can't have greys I guess. It was never said Fury Road was all practical effects. It was simply said that cgi was used to enhance the story- you know, like it should be used, and that many effects were done real world whenever possible. So cars slamming into one another had a visceral weight and look that can't be replicated via computer, but the bodies and explosions and little flourishes were added in post to *enhance* the effects, not replace them

    • @THHDReviews
      @THHDReviews 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Cyril
      You'd think they would use replicas considering how much money that would save, because the real '73 XB Falcons aren't exactly cheap for how old they are, and there wasn't that many of them made.
      Also, its funny how they look to be the only Australian cars in the movie.

    According to the prequel comic, Max got the new Interceptor after the events of Beyond Thunderdome and owned a V8 from a thunderdome fight at Gas Town. Then the pissed off guys that lost tried to fuck with him, a woman asked Max to help her save her daughter Glory (the little girl that appears in the flashbacks of the movie) from the thugs but in the final battle both of them died and Max drove off in the wasteland on his new car.

    The interceptor must be cursed after that 1st explosion in Mad Max 2.

  • @kevinfox500
    @kevinfox500 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Decker, the answer on the interceptor, is in the movie, if you pay attention to one scene. Watch closely when Slit is drivijg the car, during the race back to the Citadel. Pay close attention to the brake pedal, when he tries to speed up, between the People Eater's rig, and the war rig.
    Wide brake pedal, and no clutch.
    In MM and MM2, the car is a stick. In MMFR, it's an automatic. Also, the car lacks the supercharger switch, and the supercharger is always running, when the engine is.
    So that question is easy to answer, just from watching the movie.

    "The first snag came in 2001..."
    Yes, but really the first snag came in 1983 when Byron Kennedy died in a helicopter crash. After his friend and Max co-conspirator's death, Miller lost interest in Beyond Thunderdome. He brought on George Ogilvie who "co-directed". Miller says he doesn't remember making Beyond Thunderdome, which should say something for his involvement.
    Anyway, the point is that it wasn't until another 15 or so years had passed that Miller was emotionally distant enough to face Mad Max again.
    And then everything else got in the way.

    The reason max doesn't talk much was because they originally going to have Mel Gibson play the version of max that went insane and feral acting more like an animal than a human. Him being chained up by the warboys was also changed as max was meant to be their tracker when chasing down the warrig.
    The ending was going to be Mel's last time playing max as he was going to stay at the compound with furiousa (love interest) and have it end with him finding a home and regaining his humanity

    Also, thank you so much for calling out the "MRAs are pissed about Fury Road" bullshit, especially pointing out how Return of Kings isn't even an 'MRA site'. I've had to sit through observing the insanity of identity politics for the last two years (much to the detriment of my own sanity I might add), and it always shocked me how journalists fail to simply take a quick look at the Return of King's web site, where (unless I'm mistaken) ROK actually spell it out in the site's FAQ that they are *not* MRAs. Whatever happened to journalists doing simple things like a basic fact-check?[/rant]

    The flashbacks I just assumed were maybe some settlers that Max abandoned or failed in some other respect? The kid I think is Max's damaged mental state quite literally fusing his wife and son together as a single entity. I've heard a fan theory this movie takes place in an alternate timeline where Papagallo's rig was destroyed and all the survivors were killed by Wez, Max being haunted by all their deaths. Also, apparently the Green Place is the oasis from Beyond Thunderdome.

Tha sparse storytelling is very well balanced with visual storytelling and it just makes all the scenes feel more meaty, enriched with details. Even the sound mixing has some suprising depth to it, like the wives' dialogue is mixed in a way you hear them all around, like some kind of ghost choir.

    23:54 I think this scene establishes why Max didn't get much attention in the movie.
    Max at this point in time is a nigh unstoppable machine that has been through trial after trial in the wasteland that he has become an ultimate warrior albeit an unhinged one. Also there isn't much really left for Max to do, he got his revenge in the first movie, learned that he cannot trust others in the second and in the third reignites his want to help others.
    In this one he is just a passenger to Furiosa and the Mother's story helping them to achieve their goals by providing his skills.
    This scene shows that we don't really need to know what Max did there because we all know that Max is just that badass.

He turned his vehicle into another interceptor to remind him of his life. His only connection to what is right(police officer). He’s then captured and so on. He then helps furiosa because he thinks it can ease his mind. He then falls in love with furiosa and stays at the citadel. Why are some of the cars left side drive if they’re in Australia?

    • @kevinfox500
      @kevinfox500 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As it is here, you can legally import vehicles from other countries, that are 25 years old, or older, so long as they pass the Australian certification process, and safety inspections. Not cheap, but it can be done, and most come from RH drive countries, but there are plenty of Yank Tanks there as well.
      The Fleetmaster the War Rig body came from was a 1948 model, and the first gen HMMWV was first produced in the early 80s. I remember the Corps switching over to them around 1986 or so, so first gens would qualify.
      Hell, there's a RH drive Chevy C10, 73 to 79 range, in the original MM. Toecutter is riding in the back, with his bike, one of several sent by Kawasaki, for the film, when he flags down Bubba Zanetti, to go back to the wrecked Impala, to retrieve Johnny the Boy.
      And Bubba was right. He certainly was no Night Rider.

    I was just going through older reviews of Fury Road to get a new perspective on the film and what you said is really true: this film feels like a sequel to a much larger story never told, and now we're getting that story. Furiosa (and The Wasteland hopefully). It's interesting that George Miller decided to present this trilogy starting with the last one in the series: Fury Road, after he'd established everything already. That's why there's so much lore for this film but you gotta dig really deep to get to the info. At least now we'll be shown what that whole wasteland is about, in about 2 months.

    Aren't the ghosts in Max's head just all the people who have died while he was meant to be helping them in the past? Like, the movie's way of saying that he wanders from shitshow to shitshow like from movies 1 to 2 to 3 and then a bunch of other adventures where people he was meant to be helping didn't always make it, and he always ends up alone, then eventually making it to 4.

  • @williambeckett6336

    Max clearly somehow found another interceptor. The original had two gas tanks in back and this one has 1. And the spoiler is missing and the headlights, while broken out are not smashed in with the front-end molding from the beginning chase in the Road Warrior.

      This may be a harsh choice of words, but IMO Decker is way better off without the influence of that overrated nihilist clown. NC's humor became pretentious years ago and it would be a shame to see another reviewer go down the same path due to such an alliance. Why do I state this? As it is, to me Decker Shado is what Doug Walker used to be during the early days preceding his fall from grace, an actually funny internet personality who doesn't conjure bloated fake skits to successfully bring himself across to the audience. Seriously, Decker, steer clear of the Nostalgia Critic. Why? You are still actually legit.
