AOD needs a lot of work, so its expected, certain mechanics didn't work as intended. and people were saying it would never get remastered as it needs a full remake.
@@TheGameBreakersUK People kinda aren't wrong about that though it really does need an extremely heavy overhaul like a remake or something along the lines of what the community for Vampire the Masquerade has achieved with the unofficial patch for that (glad I mentioned it cause patch 11.5 literally just came out yesterday after basically a year since the last patch).
Tomb raider 4 is the grandest tomb raider in the classic. It's where they take Lara's direction seriously. The storyline is great, the levels are vast, the soundtrack is very cinematic, it was set entirely in egypt.
The tomb raider 1-3 remasters are pretty much flawless. A dream remaster. Never did I ever think I would see the day. I assumed with 100 percent certainly no game company would have the balls to release OG tomb raiders in this day and age without adding waypoints, checkpoints, painted ledges, glowing items, lower difficulty options, lara talking giving hints to the player, option to lower difficulty if you die a few times, pop up hints and all other modern day shite that has infested the vast majority of modern AAA games. They absolutely nailed it. Hats off to the devs. 10/10. My game fo the year 2024 along with Animal Well.
In Angel of Darkness there's a cutscene where they were supposed to be driving in a car, but the background wasn't moving. I wonder if they fixed that.
I'm sure every element of the game has been looked at. Fundamentals will be looked ad and fixed first with cosmetic stuff changed depending on importance.
So anxious to replay Last Revelation and Chronicles with modern controls and all the improvements of TR3. And Times Level features lots of places show in the opening and it is gorgeous looking level. I like Angel of Darkness but hate the grip bar and the "i feel stronger now" level up system. Lets see what it becomes
We just need an updated level editor and perhaps multiplayer mode so people can share eachothers tombs they create or play them together and it would be perfect!

@@JoshDun6 yes but the current level editor or editors is sort of a pain to use. Needs to be streamlined and updated for regular people to use the way far cry’s editor is easy to use, even the Fortnite editor looks a lot easier to use for beginners.
Tomb Raider: Angel Of Darkness is the best Tomb Raider in terms of the vibe, in my book. The clunkiness and bugs made it a chore to play sometimes, but it was still mostly enjoyable to me when it came out. The polished version of this game with cut content being brought back is a massive announcement! And we get remastered version of Last Revelation and Chronicles and Times level to boot.
I was a huge Tomb Raider fan in the 90s and around 25 years later, it lost some of its magic for me. When I bought the original Trilogy Remastered I said to myself, that I am not going to get 4,5,6 Remastered. Now I spent some time with the first package and changed my mind, I am looking forward owning 4,5 and 6 Remastered in the future.
The first Remastered collection had the expansions for each game and they were pretty big, so we basically got 6 games. But in this next collection we only have the Times Exclusive for TR4 (a very short level), and TR5 is also a very small game. So i hope they put all the effort in making all three games look and feel great, especially Angel of Darkness. I doubt there will be a 2nd chance for AOD, so please... let it be fantastic.
You would hope so. I 've heard a lot about AOD in comparison to the other games in this remaster so it does look like they are giving it the attention it deserves
I have tried to get that "The Times" level to work on PC for 2 years. I cannot figure it out. So I'm excited that it's included with the new remasters!
Stellas website does explain how you can get it to work. It may struggle on newer systems but if you can get it into compatibility mode for windows 98 it should run.

I hope that 4, 5, 6 have the same graphical style as 1, 2, 3. If so, I will definitely buy it, as long as it appears on the PS5. To support the developer I have bought 5x copies of TR 1, 2, 3, Remastered.
That's a lot of copies. TR4, 5 and 6 were built on a different engine to 1 - 3, It will be a similar style but and improved graphical look as show in the video even though some changes are subtle.
I hope in the angel of darkness remastered they changed it to where lara can have a pair of guns because in the old ps2 lara never could use a pair of guns unless you had a gameshark Or action replay so I hope a pair of guns has been allowed in the remaster
I'm so excited for this... AOD is the only TR game I have never finished because it was so broken and the controls were horrendous. I sincerely hope they give it the attention it needs.
I'm so happy for this. I remember AOD being one of the most disappointing gifts I had received, seeing as I was actually grounded from the PS2 for almost a year before I could play it. Finally did, and was nothing like was advertised. No actual real stealth, no aiming in stealth, and worst of all no dual guns! (Without codebreaker cheats of course lol) So seeing this fixed is literally going to be a childhood dream come true. I cannot wait for this and thank you for sharing all of the details so far! I did read somewhere, after the release of this video, that it will be some form of hybrid engine to make AOD more compatible with TR4 and 5. That's it though no other information was given into the details of it

i thought as no extras where mentioned we wern’t getting the times level i’m happy we are. The only two unanswered questions i have are well there be a disc/cartridge at launch and well there be a level editor where we can create,share and download each others levels.😍
Level editor I haven't heard anything about. Physical copies at launch is probably a no as well, but don't rule it out if it sells well, like Tomb Raider I - III Remastered then maybe we get these further down the line.
I'm curious about pre order when we, pre order Tomb Raider 4 5 6, then the release date happens, will Tomb Raider 1 2 3 be updated with all 6 games together, or will Tomb Raider 1 2 3 an 4 5 6 be separate
I don't expect the devs are being given plenty of time and budget to make these remasters, with the next pack coming only 1 year after the first and a hard release date of Lara's birthday making a delay less likely, maybe they've got a solid workflow established with the engine now for 4 and 5 but AoD is another story entirely, porting it to another engine is way outside the scope of this project you're basically recreating the game from scratch at that point, unless you're Nightdive and have your own engine and dedicated team just for that purpose and AoD is a bit more complicated than a retro first person shooter, you risk breaking more than you intended to fix. I can't decide whether they've altered Lara's model in AoD or if it's changes to the lighting/shaders, the first shot of her wasn't flattering but she looks good in all the others, need to see more footage but i'm expecting pretty minimal updates, graphically there's nothing that needs updating in AoD and i'm not expecting many dramatic changes to the original experience, but i'd love to be surprised. It's cool that they're updating Lara's model even more for 4 and 5 because it fits with the engine enhancements of the originals, Lara and the levels continued to receive more detail with each entry 4 and 5 even released on the Dreamcast, we're also now extremely familiar with the model in the first collection so an update goes a long way.
Apparently this an the first remaster have been in the works for a while. I have been on steam for over a year just without a name since recently, so people couldn't find it.
I bloody love The Last Revelation, it's my favourite in the series. I don't mind Legend era Lara (unlike some) but it's the latest series entries I find most disappointing.
Should be good to play these classic games. As I mentioned in the video I only played a TR4 Demo, so it will be good to go through these. I have watched playthroughs though
Great to see Classic PS games coming back as Newest Gen remasters, but still keeping the old style look at a click of a button too. (Tomb Raider, Soul Reaver etc) Hopefully more similar ones to be released I hope such as Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve etc.
I wish all remakes were made like this!! Imagine playing an original but updated Final Fantasy VII where you could switch back to the original graphics at the press of a button! Would have been great! A lot better than whatever the heck it was that Square Enix decided to produce anyway... 🤦♂️

Since TRLE (Tomb Raider Level Editor) is based on TR IV, could we get a "TRLE Remastered"? Like is it compatible? I've seen a video of someone using a TRLE Level in TR II. It looked promising but I haven't seen any updates about that topic since then.

Will the dual pistols be accessible on the Von Croy heist levels? The cover shows them on Lara's hips. Hoping Angel of Darkness has better camera and movement. Obviously dual pistols.

@Tombbistol I have a bad feeling that the physical version will be patch 3. Because that incomplete patch was accidently released on xbox last week and the discs will have been printed long before then. Companies don't print their discs a week before release.
Be nice to play 4 - 6 again... I only ever completed AoD once so i am looking forward to that, just hoping the controls have been improved, id be happy if we got TR 1 - 5 tank controls for it 😂

Not heard or read anything about a level editor as of yet. It may have used the same engine as TR 4 and TR5 but if it wasn't included with the main game then it more than likely wont be included.
I am very excited for tomb raider 4/5/6 remastered but I'm more interested in how the remastered of Angel of Darkness is going too look it personally needs a lot of work I think it needs a whole new remake
Heard nothing as of yet about a level editor. Long way to go before release though. Also when the first set of remasters were released there were things in that, that weren't discovered until launch.

Some yes. Shooting around a corner for one wasn't in the original game while in stealth mode, you are now able to do it. The achievements list gives a lot away.
I don't like the braid change. It's supposed to be a braid, a cartoony braid sure, but still a braid, not balls of hair strung together with rubber bands. The braid was perfectly fine in the first trilogy because of the established cartoony look of the FMVs which is also present in 4 and 5, so this was a pointless "realistic" change. I also don't like the new untucked look of the tank top, again they keep changing superficial things no one asked for. They did such a good job in the first trilogy that these bizarre changes just boggle my mind.
I think it is great now for performance target. Addind a complex hair always adds huge performance cost. And they are probably aiming on very low end PCs too.
The tank top isn't untucked, its a leotard with her shorts over it. This was in the original TR4 game. In terms of the hair, they are adding more details to it because they can, the engine is better than the TR 1-3 engine

@@TheGameBreakersUK I really don't know where you read it's a leotard, because it's simply not. The untucked tank top effect during gameplay was 100% a quirky development choice by Core. Watch the FMVs and look at official art of TLR, you'll see it's the classic tank top. To me this effect is more jarring now because the textures are more detailed. This makes no difference however, as long as outfit selection is available on day 1 and I can pick some other outfit from TR5 instead.
Probably a bit too soon to ask: Do you think they will do the PS3/Xbox trilogy (Legend, Anniversary, Underworld) next? On one hand, they are somewhat recent but will also be quite easy to do.
They are as you say reasonably recent. Maybe they do get a remaster but maybe not straight away. Anniversary is the exact same storyline as TR1 though even though it plays differently.
Though it likely won't change my mind about Angel of Darkness, the most interesting thing about this remaster, to me, is definitely going to be what they end up doing with the game. I already played and love both The Last Revelation and Chronicles. They'll end up being familiar and welcome territory, and the only new thing to do with them is to experience them in a modern aesthetic. Angel of Darkness on the other hand was always the terrible outlier I never bothered with...which is why its fate in this remaster is the most curious thing to me. I'd be perfectly fine if they didn't include the game to be honest. I feel it's much better that way considering how awful it is.
AOD is the game most of talking about and it will be interesting to see what will be done with it. From the talk a lot of the mechanics that didn't work properly originally will be looked at
It has been said that cut content from AOD is being re-added, as mentioned in the video these are things that were cut due to time constraints originally or maybe they couldn't get them to work in time.
They should just implement the original tank controls for AOD. That would fix the controls entirely. I also hope they restore missing content such as cut level areas and cutscenes.
@@cozzy4447 It doesn't really need a port either, game coding hasn't changed that much in the last 18 years that it won't work on modern PC's and console. It just needs a digital release for console gamers, it's still available on PC.
1:48 I wonder if AOD in the remaster may stick more to the grid based system of TR1 - 5. Maybe this could be a way to 'fix' the PS2 controls of the original. I don't think AOD on PS2 was based on a grid based system, but I could be wrong - I don't have a ton of experience with AOD.

I think the grip bar will still be there as its a key mechanic to AOD but it will be improved

Look up Tomb Editor / Tomb Engine! The level editor has come a looong way since 2000.

I don't expect the devs are being given plenty of time and budget to make these remasters, with the next pack coming only 1 year after the first and a hard release date of Lara's birthday making a delay less likely, maybe they've got a solid workflow established with the engine now for 4 and 5 but AoD is another story entirely, porting it to another engine is way outside the scope of this project you're basically recreating the game from scratch at that point, unless you're Nightdive and have your own engine and dedicated team just for that purpose and AoD is a bit more complicated than a retro first person shooter, you risk breaking more than you intended to fix.
I can't decide whether they've altered Lara's model in AoD or if it's changes to the lighting/shaders, the first shot of her wasn't flattering but she looks good in all the others, need to see more footage but i'm expecting pretty minimal updates, graphically there's nothing that needs updating in AoD and i'm not expecting many dramatic changes to the original experience, but i'd love to be surprised.
It's cool that they're updating Lara's model even more for 4 and 5 because it fits with the engine enhancements of the originals, Lara and the levels continued to receive more detail with each entry 4 and 5 even released on the Dreamcast, we're also now extremely familiar with the model in the first collection so an update goes a long way.
Apparently this an the first remaster have been in the works for a while. I have been on steam for over a year just without a name since recently, so people couldn't find it.
So nice :) a Must buy! Hope there will be a LAU remaster too in Future :)
I bloody love The Last Revelation, it's my favourite in the series. I don't mind Legend era Lara (unlike some) but it's the latest series entries I find most disappointing.
I wonder if they'll add the pistols to the VCI levels in the Chronicles game, especially considering she has them in the FMV cutscenes.
it would be great if there would be the option to wear Lara's blue gown, just like they did with Vegas outfit
Outfit Selector may not be i the released build but is likely to be added considering how well received it was in the first remaster.

I could care less about Angel of Darkness. I would pay 100 dollars just for a remaster of the last Revolution and Chronicles. Soooo excited for this.

Last Revelation is a masterpiece. Chronicle is OK, good in parts.
Angel of Darkness has been deleted from my memory banks.
What I want to know is if they kept the normal mapping capabilities from TR4 and TRAoD… because they are not noticeable in the trailer…
Great to see Classic PS games coming back as Newest Gen remasters, but still keeping the old style look at a click of a button too. (Tomb Raider, Soul Reaver etc) Hopefully more similar ones to be released I hope such as Dino Crisis, Parasite Eve etc.

Since TRLE (Tomb Raider Level Editor) is based on TR IV, could we get a "TRLE Remastered"? Like is it compatible? I've seen a video of someone using a TRLE Level in TR II. It looked promising but I haven't seen any updates about that topic since then.
The level editor is based off TR4 and TR5 engine, it might be possible but I haven't seen anything to say it will be bundled with this remaster
So, is it TR6 that Lara is so different looking? If so, why can't they make her look better like the rest?

Probably, patch 4 most likely is included in the disc version so they are probably releasing them both at the same time .

@Tombbistol I have a bad feeling that the physical version will be patch 3. Because that incomplete patch was accidently released on xbox last week and the discs will have been printed long before then. Companies don't print their discs a week before release.

During the announcement it was mentioned that Tank and Modern controls will be in both games so AOD may get tanky.

Not heard or read anything about a level editor as of yet. It may have used the same engine as TR 4 and TR5 but if it wasn't included with the main game then it more than likely wont be included.

Heard nothing as of yet about a level editor. Long way to go before release though. Also when the first set of remasters were released there were things in that, that weren't discovered until launch.

Some yes. Shooting around a corner for one wasn't in the original game while in stealth mode, you are now able to do it.
The achievements list gives a lot away.
I don't like the braid change. It's supposed to be a braid, a cartoony braid sure, but still a braid, not balls of hair strung together with rubber bands. The braid was perfectly fine in the first trilogy because of the established cartoony look of the FMVs which is also present in 4 and 5, so this was a pointless "realistic" change. I also don't like the new untucked look of the tank top, again they keep changing superficial things no one asked for. They did such a good job in the first trilogy that these bizarre changes just boggle my mind.
I think it is great now for performance target. Addind a complex hair always adds huge performance cost.
And they are probably aiming on very low end PCs too.
The tank top isn't untucked, its a leotard with her shorts over it. This was in the original TR4 game.
In terms of the hair, they are adding more details to it because they can, the engine is better than the TR 1-3 engine

@@TheGameBreakersUK I really don't know where you read it's a leotard, because it's simply not. The untucked tank top effect during gameplay was 100% a quirky development choice by Core. Watch the FMVs and look at official art of TLR, you'll see it's the classic tank top. To me this effect is more jarring now because the textures are more detailed. This makes no difference however, as long as outfit selection is available on day 1 and I can pick some other outfit from TR5 instead.

No, I game is dark in a lot of places so I just add a bit of brightness to the videos just so things are a bit more visible.

On one hand, they are somewhat recent but will also be quite easy to do.
They are as you say reasonably recent. Maybe they do get a remaster but maybe not straight away. Anniversary is the exact same storyline as TR1 though even though it plays differently.
Some publishers are remastering PS4 era games already, so i think LAU games are old enough for a remaster
@TheScure I know. Horizon: Zero Dawn being one of them. Then, there is the Last of Us - Part 1 that has had at least 2 remasters.
I'm only excited with TR4, chronicles is trivial and AOD deserves a remake as it wouldnt make any difference remastering

From the trailer though, it doesn't look like the graphic upgrade is as good in AOD to iV & V.
Though it likely won't change my mind about Angel of Darkness, the most interesting thing about this remaster, to me, is definitely going to be what they end up doing with the game. I already played and love both The Last Revelation and Chronicles. They'll end up being familiar and welcome territory, and the only new thing to do with them is to experience them in a modern aesthetic.
Angel of Darkness on the other hand was always the terrible outlier I never bothered with...which is why its fate in this remaster is the most curious thing to me. I'd be perfectly fine if they didn't include the game to be honest. I feel it's much better that way considering how awful it is.
AOD is the game most of talking about and it will be interesting to see what will be done with it. From the talk a lot of the mechanics that didn't work properly originally will be looked at

It has been said that cut content from AOD is being re-added, as mentioned in the video these are things that were cut due to time constraints originally or maybe they couldn't get them to work in time.
I am so excited. 4 and 6 are my favorites. Hope to Play AOD in its original glory for the first time.

They should just implement the original tank controls for AOD. That would fix the controls entirely. I also hope they restore missing content such as cut level areas and cutscenes.

It doesn't really need a port either, game coding hasn't changed that much in the last 18 years that it won't work on modern PC's and console. It just needs a digital release for console gamers, it's still available on PC.
