TAO 110cc ATV engine swap. This 4 wheeler had low low compression so we put a brand new engine in it

  • This little 110cc is dangerously fast for it's size. The engine comes with absolutely no instructions. I oiled it up with Amsoil 10w30 small engine oil. We put slime in three of the tires to get it to hold air. We also take a close look at the carburetor.

    I bet your grandson is tickled to have his 4 wheeler back! Proud grandpa! You have inspired me to buy a 1971 mercury 7.5 hp outboard. It had no spark, good compression not getting gas, has sat for years. I replaced points and wires from point block to coil. Now have spark! Fun. But took me hours as a rocky with outboards. Will work on the gas situation soon as I get a chance. 😃

    The carb looked like it had rusty water in it, that can also cause problems trying to rev it up. That tank needed draining. Where I live if you leave a tank half full, over the winter water accumulates, they recommend before storing to always fill the tank to keep humid air out that causes water.

    I’m doing the same thing with my 110cc Tao Tao, but I’m doing an engine swap too. I’m putting a 4 stroke 125cc 4 speed on it. Well see how that goes. I’ve had the thing since I’ve been 5 and I’m now 16 so I thought I should put a bigger engine on it.

    The valves were probably tight on the old engine. Happens all the time on these. Couldve fixed it for free

  • @mondude9754
    @mondude9754 ปีที่แล้ว

    that thing seems like it was geared quite high and still accelerated good 👍. although I gotta say that old engine wasn't running bad because of bad compression. that was 100% a fuel issue. also seeing as to how clean the engine looked... what might of happened is you may have used a compression tester with a one way valve at the gauge side instead of the spark plug threads side. long story short the dramatically lowers the compression and all cheap compression testers are built that way

    • @Michaelsbackyardmarina
      @Michaelsbackyardmarina  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong on the compression tester. I have three and they are work well and the same, you can't put it together wrong on the ones I have. Thanks for watching

    Those motors will run forever the low compression was more than likely just a quick valve adjustment

      @@Michaelsbackyardmarina was the cylinder wall damaged? If not it was probably just a bad piston ring, also you could have bought a new cylinder for it for like half the price

    Here is a challenge for you why not rebuild the engine for the 110cc motor you never know what it will come handy for in the future. I reckon it is only piston rings or something less complicated and I am sure with your knowledge you can do it.

    4 strokes and 2 strokes are entirely different beasties, I think you fixed the ATV by cleaning the rusty water out of the fuel system. Usually if a 4 stroke runs smooth at idle, it will run smooth at high speed regardless of what the compression is.

    • @Michaelsbackyardmarina
      @Michaelsbackyardmarina  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      true

    • @mondude9754
      @mondude9754 ปีที่แล้ว

      infact if it runs at idle it will have even less trouble running at high speed because the faster the piston is moving the less time air has to leak out

    How did you connect the old wires to the new wire on the new engine. There is a white and yellow wire on the old engine and two yellow wires on the new engine. Is there a certain way or should I just put them together?
