    You, sir, are a steely-eyed missile man. Truly a game changer for my system, albeit mine has a slower CPU. I get mid-40s at altitude now, and low 30-s at busy intl airports with FSLTL traffic. With much BETTER visuals. Thanks!

    5 Months on and this vid is still helping simmers, so thanks for your efforts. My VR was running in a sweet spot until MSFS updated to include DLSS. Since then I've had severe stutters which really downgraded my experience. Your tips here have restored the sweet spot and I now have a great baseline to continue tweaking the main settings you highlight. Many thanks.

    Wow😮
    I have a 3080 and can't play without motion repro so I've tweaked a little but this resolution increase combined with dlss is absolutely incredible. I've never seen such clarity with performance. Thank you ❤

    I used this with my RTX 3090 and it was a game-changer for sure! Recently I switched from the RTX 3090 to Radeon 7900 XTX: I used these same instructions, except whenever DLSS is used in this tutorial, I use FSR 2 instead. It is an option inside MSFS instead of DLSS if you have an AMD card. The results are still fantastic!

    Probably the only vid on settings that actually leverage dlss and ai algorithm in Nvidia card. I run override of 6300 on 4090 with most things to ultra. TLOD 300 OLOD 300 in usercfg file, FFR and all on ultra performance MR 30. Sending massive image to the tensor cores to do their thing. Add 532.03 driver with DirectML improvements of 2x and dlss is even faster. Thanks for this. I didn’t see this vid till now

    Thumbs Down is a rouse to get attention. Easily 10 out of 10, except for a couple of things that necessitated multi-replays & frustrations. 1 slow down a little, 2 pause for a few seconds when showing settings, 3 make slow and deliberate motions with the pointer and don't jump around. These action will greatly help newbies like me. Got a boat load of good information and no BS.🙂🙂

      thx and sorry about the frustrations. I totally get you. New vid is coming up with my up to date full settings. I know this was rushed and particularly regret not explicitly allowing people to copy my MSFS settings. It wasn't the focus of the vid but nonetheless I know a lot of people new to this want to do that. Anyway thanks and glad it helped!

    Thanks for this video. Watched it a couple times and applied it to my rig. I’m running a 7950X CPU and a 4090. I do seem to need re-projection and to avoid the stutter/jitter when panning side to side inside the cockpit. One thing almost no one talks about when discussing OpenXR Toolkit are the brightness/contrast/vibrance settings. One thing I don’t like about the G2 is that it seems dark. Maybe a video topic recommendation. Thanks for the work!

    Great video, I didn't realize you could go above 3160 (100%). I've found that 60hz is the perfered setting for me in both my old 3090ti and now my 4090. I'm getting 60 hz consistantly except for certain airports like LAX and JFK. I have 2 G2 headsets (I scratched the lens with my eyeglasses and the V2 came out so I got it) and neither has flashing. I did wear out my cable on the v2 headset and that caused flashing but when I replaced it the flashing went away. I defenately get more frames and more headroom with 60 hz on both GPU's. On the 4090 I can get 60 fps with quaility turned on and some boosted settings but have to use performance with the 3090. I prefer TAA as well, it is so sharp I can read eveything on the gauges. I will try 4700 now and let you know if it helps. LeadZeppelin

    Thanks for all your documented experience. Just a hint, deep learning isn't involved in DLSS working, it's something that happens defining the neural network, but that's static. My 4090 drives the Reverb very well, didn't try OpenXR at all, had a Vive Pro before and need to find my way into the Windows Mixed Reality world first. One question, some settings you could adjust in Sim, like rendering more than 100% native resolution. What's the advantage of OpenXR, why not oversample in Sim? Good hint with constant environment resetting, especially with changed lighting of the room, etc. I still miss the Lighthouses of the Vive Pro, Head tracking is sooooo much better. But it has other more important issues.
    I agree, DLSS 3.0 on a Reverb G2 changes the VR experience fundamentally. Vive Pro with 80% render scale and mid settings on a 2080 was doable and nice, but that's a different ballgame. And it makes the room nice and cozy with the GPU shedding 300W of heating alone 😆

    • @fly_with_nick
      @fly_with_nick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha I know it's not doing the 'training' during the 'inference' part but it's still using deep learning based model.. its a semantics issue I think. I'm quite familiar with how it works ;) So, yes we are definitely rendering far higher than the native resolution. the panels themselves are 2160x2160, BUT the manufacturer recommends a '100%' render resolution of around 3100px. However, because of the way the lenses warp the image and destroy resolution in the middle in particular, the actual native render resolution is about 5000x5000. Try it for yourself. Up to 5000x5000 you'll get increasing image quality / visible resolution. this is NOT simply 'super resolution' to get better anti-aliasing. This is actual resolution and detail. You can increase this render resolution in 2 ways - one is in the openxr developer tools app, the other is with openxr toolkit. Both do the same thing. OXR toolkit shows the resolution which is handy. The developer tools app has a slider in "%" which is less helpful but you can jump across a tap to the page with all the details and see the resolution there too.

    • @kennykanada
      @kennykanada ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too, same system same results! I don’t use FSR or CAS, it’s off. If I increase resolution in OXR Toolkit my fps drops drastically and I can’t use anything. If I increase it in OXR Dev its better but creates stuttering, black flashes and lower fps. Unfortunately I must set everything at around 100 everywhere and medium to high in-game for a relatively smooth semi-clear experience.

    Just reviewing the video again (thanks again btw!), I noticed your Terrain Level of Detail and Objects Level of Detail were different in PC & VR (even though you mentioned the PC & VR values should be equivalent). I guess that's intentional? Also, if you don't mind me asking, what do you have your "Game Mode" and "Hardware Acceleration" set to?

    • @fly_with_nick
      @fly_with_nick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TLOD and OLOD are really interesting settings that do affect performance quite a bit. You can play with them - terrain has the most effect. In VR the slider at 400 is actually less detail than at 400 on PC(!). I have game mode off and hags off (I think). Recently I have improved smoothness a lot with a few settings tweaks that I’ll probably put another video up for.

    • @fly_with_nick
      @fly_with_nick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good Q. I imagine it does exactly the same thing. Both tell the game what to render. I can’t imagine that somehow the *way* that is set matters, unless somehow openxr allocates more memory or something if the scale defaults higher vs setting it in the toolkit. I haven’t noticed a difference

      I have an RTX 3080 and used 150% in the Open XR developer tools. It does seem to have the same intended effect. DLSS Performance. The effect on the fps is drastic, animations are way smoother, and the crispness is there for outside world and HTML text ( addons ). The cockpit clarity does suffer. Of course I did not use 200% because of the 3080.

    Incredibile explanation! Thanks.
    May I ask you how and which resolution you select for the headset? If native resolution per eye i.e. PICO4 is 2160x2160 per eye how is possible to go almost double?
    How do you select an specific resolution in the override based on what??? Why not 3000x3000 or 6000x6000?
    My setup is a RTX3070 and for me 2700x2700 is almost impossible to have decent FPS.
    How is possible to go further until 4200? Really can't understand

    • @fly_with_nick
      @fly_with_nick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you have a different headset to me. I dont know about the PICO4, but if you are not getting decent FPS with 2700px then something else is wrong with your setup (graphics settings too high - particularly clouds? - or CPU too weak). Your 3700 should manage up to 3500 or 4000px with DLSS on as described in the video. thats the trick - DLSS + use openXR toolkit. The answer to the first question about why the resolution can be much higher than the headset screen resolution has to do with how the lenses distort the image of the screens as they are so close to them.

    I tried these settings and I believe they work for you but they don't seem to work for me at all. My sim runs buttery smooth at 4K on a 5800X3D and 4080. When I set my VR settings to Ultra and just lower the world detail, I get a smooth VR experience (using DLSS Quality or Performance doesn't make much difference in either quality or performance). But when I increased the OpenXR resolution it turns into a slide show, and setting DLSS Performance didn't make it usable. I tried lowering the MSFS display settings to what you have in the video, and it looks like absolute crap. Maybe I gained a few FPS but not enough to make the extra resolution worth it. I went back to Ultra and restored the OpenXR resolution to default, and it's back to smooth VR. I don't understand how you get such a drastically faster frame rate simply by setting DLSS Performance. I'll note that I left my PC settings at Ultra, I can't change those because I don't want to use VR exclusively. Can you confirm if lowering your PC settings is really required?

I can’t do much more than 45-50fps while looking at the horizon / cockpit with my render scale as high as I’m suggesting here. Also note you can be CPU bound without maxing out your CPU or even a single core because of the inefficiencies in how MSFS works.

    Hi,
    There are people who report that you get significantly more fps by uninstalling Gerforce Expierince.
    is that correct ?
    Thx. for ur settings. I test it today with the I9 13900 and 4090.

      Hi !
      I have adopted all your settings.
      The clarity is enormous.
      Unfortunately, I hardly have any more FPS with my 4090 and the I9 13900 / 32 GB DDR 5600.
      The game even crashed twice.
      With the helicopter over Manhattan around 50 FPS.
      Unfortunately, MR in OXRTK does not do any smoothing at all. I'm often above the limited 45 FPS.
      I also have Open XR on 100% with MR on.
      What is wrong with my settings.
      Without VR with DLSS 3 everything runs on Ultra without problems at 110-150 FPS in difficult regions.

      May i have to Reinstall the OXRTK.
      The Deinstallation of GeForce Exp. works.
      I think IT make a difrence.

    You say clarity is the most important thing for you. Yet your demonstrated clips are ridiculously jerky. Am I missing something? How can you possibly take pleasure in such a jerky mess. 3D is all very well but it is SMOOTHNESS that people strive for. I'd rather have a smooth render of 2d motion any day than a jerk ridden mess of 3d. Please confirm you are seeing the same jerky image I see here or perhaps youtube is changing things.

      The vr mirror capture you watch on youtube does not reflect what you’ll see in vr. If the video is jerky it’s because he’s moving his head around while recording.

      @@luxvisuals8935 I can also confirm that these settings are amazing in VR and I am on a G1. I never thought to change the settings in this way but it has given me the best image in VR that I have ever seen. I'm on a 10900K, 3080ti. Smooth and crystal clear.

      Thanks @luxvisuals8935 and @wayne6181. You guys are right. The video shows a terrible VR mirror which doesnt at all represent the quality of what you see in the headset. I do have a way of showing a better preview which ill share in another video. But @fingerhorn4 best get your facts straight before being snarky next time! I do mention in the video the mirror is not representative of what you see in the headset too!

      Puh, i got the RTX 4090, I 13900 and 32 GB DDR 5 5600.
      But Sorry, with 5000 Render Scale is to much for my system.
      When i fly in Ground Near the FPS goes under 30 FPS.
      And the Image is to sharp.
      Look at the Wimd wheels. I see some Pixels at the rotors.
      Sorry for my bad english… german.
      But at least : Thx for ur tipps and settings: Clarity is so,much better.

    I initially used CAS but I noticed a ring shaped artifact with CAS that reminded me of the onset of a migraine so I had to stop using it. Is it ok to use an upscaling setting with DLSS, aren't they essentially trying to fo the same thing?

    • @ParallaxEffect
      @ParallaxEffect ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I dont think so. DLSS runs at the game level before the image is sent to the openxr pipeline. Then in openxr another round of upscaling can be applied. The way this works is, if you set 90% render scale in the toolkit, it will ask the game for an image 90% of what the render scale is set to in openxr. The game then generates that image (using dlss if its set, or taa, or whatever is set). Then that image can be further sharpened+upscaled in one step per whatevers set in openxr toolkit. Even if you apply cas 100% you still get another round of sharpening which I like.
