CROCE was such a thought-provoking artist....and, his music, to me, was so heartfelt. LOVED HIM! Wish he wouldn't have passed, so young. I loved his Time In A Bottle and Operator....and, his funny side: You Don't Mess Around With Jim and Bad, Bad Leroy Brown....it's a shame, though: would've LOVED to have seen what he came out with, had his career been longer.... That song always chokes me up when he says, "so life won't pass me by" only to have that happen in a very short time. I believe the other guitarist in the video also died in the plane crash. I even remember when it happen. It was the first time someone I was a fan of died. It was weird because I was really sad but didn't know the guy. Very confusing at the time. I think I was 9 yrs old. I remember it wasn't that big of an article. I thought it should have been bigger and on the front page. Very different times. "Rapid Roy" is a great and up tempo song of his.😢

Time In Bottle and Operator are two of my favorite songs by Jim Croce. Very melancholy. You’re right it was always about the music back then. You will love Harry Chapin and his classic song “Taxi” Harry was a genius songwriter.

Another great folk rock singer songwriter who we lost so young. This is the music I grew up with. Unique storyteller & ballad singer. He touches your soul. He had a lot of great hits in his short career. "Time In A Bottle", "Photographs & Memories", "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown", "You Don't Mess Around With Jim", "Workin' At The Car Wash Blues," "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song", "Roller Derby Queen", "Rapid Roy", "Lover's Cross" etc.
Dan Folgelberg is another great story teller. That man had me crying about race horses!
"Run For the Roses", great touching song especially to us that raised horses.

This song is also in this year’s movie “Somewhere in Queens.” It plays very early in the film, and at the end it’s a newer cover by a different artist. It plays over the end credits after the Chicago song.

I was a kid when Croce died. I remember it clearly because Bad, Bad Leroy Brown was one of my favorite songs. What a unique sound he had.
Such a raw talent, and gifted song writer. When you hear his live performances, you realize how little he needed studio effects for his music. Jim's the kind of guy who could sit down with just a guitar, and entertain for hours.
Operator. He was the ultimate storyteller. He used to watch people around him and make stories about them on the spot.

Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, and John Denver are 3 folk singers we enjoy especially when traveling. Great stories set to music. John Denver is my favorite. I love, how he hits the high notes in “The Eagle and the Hawk” and “Looking For Space”. Thanks for being as cool as you are 😊
Mr. Croce a great musician, songwriter and man. Rest in Peace Jim. Harry Chapin is another great singer/ songwriter and preformer as well as a good, kind man who was also taken too soon. His song "A Better Place To Be" is well worth a listen. ❤
As I was growing up, music was an important part of my life, and it still is. I happened to meet a number of musicians. John Denver was one. Harry Chapin was another. He stopped by my college one Wednesday evening and played a few songs on his guitar in front of the fireplace. He was making his living as a film maker then. I bought him a malt, and we talked about world hunger - something he was passionate about. He was giving 90% of his meager income at the time to hunger charities. I saw later that when he became a professional musician his band was mad at him for giving away so much of his income. Good artists are passionate people.

Used to play Jim Croce 8 track over and over! He was one of a kind. His lyrics suited the time and probably timeless. Fun one, Junk Yard Dog 🥰. Died too young.
I remember the day Jim Croce died. I was in my early teens and just beginning to explore music. His songs had caught my ear. I loved his sound and my heart hurt that day. Plane crashes took too many great artists from us.
My teenage years were in the 70’s and I was blessed to listen to this music as it came out. Music will never be this good again.
A great talent gone too soon. I loved Time in a Bottle so much that my little sister went out and bought me the album. I still have it to this day.

Jim was one my favorite artists as I was in my high school days back then. I can't think of one song that he did that I didn't like. " Time in a Bottle", "Photographs and Memories" and "You Don't Mess Around with Jim". My other favorite gone too soon is John Denver. His song "Grandma's Feather Bed can still get me out of "the glooms" in a hurry. Keep up the great work!
Love, love, love Jim Croce! He was gone before I was born but I grew up listening to his music thanks to my Dad. Still some of my favorite to listen to around the house or in the car. Highly recommend Carwash Blues for its storytelling and humor. James Taylor is another singer songwriter great and you can’t go wrong checking out Sweet Baby James. 😊💗
Yes, he was loved and I felt the pain when his sudden death occurred. He was a storyteller who played to his audience by having wonderful eye contact. He was genuine, sincere and low key. I like Operator, and Time in a Bottle. Thanks Polo good review!
I've known his music my whole life but I got deeper into his music because my stepfather always played his cassettes while driving everywhere. Miss those days. Thank you reminding me. Definitely do more Jim Croce please.
He was huge when I was growing up. I still listen to him and wonder what songs we missed because of his untimely death.
Just pure talent, and the music was real. It moves you because it's relatable, and even though the subject matter may be complex, Croce had a way of making it simple for everyone to "get". Maury's guitar playing is also spectacular. The world lost not one, but two great talents when that plane went down.
Can't go wrong with Croce. Even his album tracks are memorable.
The moment I listened to Operator was the first time I'd ever hear Croce. It's such a beautiful masterpiece of a song. I immediately started listening to his whole catalogue. It was eye opening and it also opened a new genre of music with the likes of James Taylor and Van Morrison. A whole bunch of other incredible artists that are escaping my thoughts atm. Croce to me, is timeless and no matter what mood I'm in when it hits my ears, I immediately have a smile on my face.

The album, 'I Got a Name', was actually released after his death. I can't think of a Jim Croce song that doesn't make me 'feel' something in my life. The music, the lyrics, the delivery all make his music an experience. Unfortunately we didn't get near enough experience from JC. A brilliant career cut way too short. RIP

I loved Jim Croce’s music. I got my first album (vinyl) of his in 1969 or 1970 and I still have it. I have a turntable so I can still listen. There is nothing like listening on the original vinyl.

The saddest part of this song is knowing Jim Croce died in a plane crash on Sept. 20, 1973 and this album didn't come out until Dec. 1 of the same year. This was the album that made him a household name the one that had all his hits on it. I was driving to work and still remember being so shocked at hearing he'd died on the radio I had to pull off the road and sit in shock.
As an Italian family, we listened to Jim Croce since he's Italian too. I remember being a kid, in our nonni's kitchen, and my older cousin came in devastated. It was a hot summer day when Craig said 'Jim Croce died in a plane crash.' The silence fell through the house. We were in mourning.
I grew up with Jim on the AM radio (WFIL in Philly). Wonderful talent but... we need to remember his partner Maurice T. Muehleisen, that died right next to him in that place crash. What a fantastic team these two were. So many memories.
Yes, very early 70s. Croce was killed in a plane crash in Sep 1973 right after I started my freshman year of high school. The buzz and utter disbelief at school that day was overwhelming. He was such a voice for the times. There wasn't a soul that he had not touched in his all too brief life.

Jim Croce was a modern troubador. He wrote about the people he knew and met and the places he had seen when he was a long haul trucker and other various jobs before his days as a performer. His other big songs were Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, Operator and Time in a Bottle. Other artists like Croce that I like are Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (Crosby, Stills and Nash and Neil Young by himself are good too). Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne are worth checking out too. It was such a tragedy when Jim died in a plane crash back in 1973 and I can remember when it happened even as a kid because I liked his music even then. Ironically, I just bought a Greatest Hits CD of Jim's recently at a local Salvation Army and it is great!

Absolutely no other song takes me back to my childhood like this song does.
There were a lot of folk-type singers and bands around Croce's time. Croce's songs, however, seemed to hit deeper in the heart than most others which made his early passing even more painful. Seals and Crofts - Diamond Girl and John Denver- Country Roads are just a drop in this deep genre of American music. As for watching movies and being impressed by the soundtrack you have to see THE GRADUATE and take in the songs by Simon and Garfunkle that carry the movie.
I remember well where I was and when I learned of JC’s death. His music is part of my life’s soundtrack -so good and memorable. His son Carrie’s on his father’s works but in his own way.
Jim and Maury were taken from us far too soon. Harry Chapin was another. The singer/songwriter era of my college days! I'm old, but I revisit those artists and their songs frequently, and I feel young again. 3 albums into his career they released Jim's greatest hits. That's actually amazing when you think about it!

Harry Chapin is another great story teller with song. His song Cats In The Cradle is his most famous for a reason. I was six in the early 70's and the Cassette of Jim Croce is how i learned to play tapes on our home stereo. Jim's song A Good Time Man Like Me Ain't Got No Business (Singing the Blues) was always a favorite of mine
