- This demonstration investigates the dependence of the period of the mass-spring system on the mass, the spring constant, and the amplitude.
This demonstration was created at Utah State University by Professor Boyd F. Edwards, assisted by James Coburn (demonstration specialist), David Evans (videography), and Rebecca Whitney (closed captions), with support from Jan Sojka, Physics Department Head, and Robert Wagner, Executive Vice Provost and Dean of Academic and Instructional Services.
Test: "What's time period of an oscillation?"
Me: "It's the time between the booms."
Great explanation of the concept while keeping all the basics right in place. This is really how a concept should be explained.
"So it's the time between booms" lol
A very academic way to explain it.
Tumse jaada samajhdaar hai tabhi vo vha hai aur tum aam aadmi ho jo uski video dekh rhe ho
Isn't that the distance of a supersonic plane?
and honestly thats the exact answer i was looking for lmao
This is wonderful Sir. I love your apparatus and your experiment.
now i understand the concept, thank you so much sir
Thank you so much for this basic BUT outstanding educational video!!!
Thank you for posting this video. It helped clarify my doubts.
best explanation im gna pass my mock tomorrow thank you so much!!
Really very good demo of spring mass system!!!
Helped me understand how panel absorbers work in acoustics. Thanks so much for being so clear in your explanations, even for the french guy I am :-)
may god bless this person i was looking for this from long booms
Thank you! It was helpful visualizing it!
This is a great introductory video
This is really helpful. Thank you so much
I have my practical exam tomorrow. Thank you very much for the great explanation. I hope I can pass the exam.
Just did a physics lab in this, but this is still so interesting! Thank you so much!
Excellent demo
Thank you so much
Great explanation 😇
very clear explanation thank you very much
Great explanation sir, respect from india
Nice vid! Thanks!
thank you so much!
I really appreciate your videos mate.
They're really helpful for brushing up on concepts.
Fun fact! I used your Hoberman sphere video on the conservation of energy when trying to figure out a test question about red dwarf stars!
thank you!
Thanks Dr.
Love this❤
that was very helpful thank you so much sir
Hey, Can you tell me from where i can get springs like this ?
I need it for my project of three coupled pendulum normal modes 🙄
Thank you very much sir 👍
Thank you!
Nice explanation
Okay I understood this one, thank you.

Sir, so I get that the spring mass system is almost equivalent to the oscillation of a simple pendulum where the T for the former depends on mass of suspended spring, and that of the latter relies on length of pendulum and acceleration due to gravity. Right? Hence, does any system representing an oscillation or an SHM (simple harmonic motion) always depends on the factor of 2π √something/√something?
Certainly, the period of the simple pendulum and the period of the mass spring system have the form you've described, but this is not necessarily true generally.
Thank you
thank you
Thnx you explained well
sir for the harmonic oscillation of helical spring .parallel or series connection of spring what will be the procedure and observation ???
and how we perform it?
Series is 1/k = 1/k1 + 1/k2 +... + 1/k(n)
Parallel is k = k1 + k2 + ... k(n)
Hi! Could you please help me to sole the following problem? 3. A spring and mass system with a mass of 2.5 kg is observed to have a frequency of 5.5 Hz. What is the stiffness constant of the spring? Thank You.
Set that frequency to 1/T which will give you the period, and then use the period equation shown in the video to find the spring constant.
Thanks alot sir😇
Best 6 minutes I have ever spent
Great.. keep going 👍
Thanking sir
Thank u so much sir. ur explanations are awesome. Why u stopped uploading videos sir?Sir please come back .We miss u.
i need your help sir
Hey Thanks!
Thank you, so helpful
thank you for the boom , , i mean explanation :)
thax
Me: Sir what is time period.
Sir: Boom boom 💥 🤣🙄
let's say we do this experiment on the moon. Does this influence the period? and if so, does this mean the spring constant changes? because the mass stays the same and the spring constant is the only other variable
Constant forces doesn't effect shm so I guess doing the same experiment on moon will not have any affect on spring constant and shm.
Woo! It's gud nd easy!👊🏻
sir in this video i think you are using parallel connection of spring
Boom boom boom😂😂😂😂
Sir, could you please demonstrate question no 1 from question paper 9702/33/F/M/20
does this applies to compressed spring? thankyou
Yes. Same situation. Fs=-kx=mg in that case. Just changes your sign, or you can keep it positive if you just change your reference direction.
Yes. It is just a lot harder to eliminate non-ideal factors when working with compressed springs.
One issue you encounter in compression that you don't encounter in tension, is the phenomenon of buckling.
Amazing 🤣😂
We can use it for the next pi day
how can I download this video. l am unable to download it in utube plz help tomorrow is my exam
You can download it here, for the next seven days: bft.usu.edu/j6d3s
at 1:25 why does the equilibrium is at that point?
because it's not moving and there is no force acting on it
Bcz resultant force is 0

Spring, mass, damper system.
What's boom boom boom??? 😁😁😁
"Boom" is the sound I utter at the completion of each period of the motion.
The sound of oscillation the mass
@Iamyou iamyou Interesting joke at the very least.
"Boom" is an example of onomatopoeia. A word with a pronunciation that resembles a sound in the real world. Imagine that the mass-spring oscillation hits a drum at the bottom of its travel length. "Boom" is the sound you would hear.
Who here from Akash Institute 😀
If you combine psychology sociology and physics with politics with current events and scientific fact policies would be easier to write
Example far right politics and far left if the pendulum of motion goes back and forth the motion over time will center and balance itself out
