    My grandpa thought that he was Indian his whole life, I always thought that he looks European because he has hazel green eyes with wavy hair. He had always hated the English because of their suppression of India in the past. DNA proves that he’s only 15% Indian, 5% southern Asian, and rest is all European with Scottish-English being the majority. He denies the results even till today.

    To Chow: South China used to be largely inhabited by different ethnic groups (instead of Han Chinese), some of which are linked to Cambodia so that could explain why!

    • @Kpoper4life
      @Kpoper4life 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @Jack Jacky there are other ethnic han minorities like the teochew and Hokkien that are known to have immigrated to Cambodia. There's also a Cantonese population there to so the chances of there being marriage between her Chinese ancestors and local Cambodian people are possible.

    • @Kpoper4life
      @Kpoper4life 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Jack Jacky That is why i said ethnic HAN minorities, it means the same thing Han subgroups.
      Baiyue is more of an umbrella term for all the indigenous that once lived in southern China, but most if not all baiyue communities have either assimilated into mainstream Han Chinese culture or no longer exist. It's nearly impossible to identify those from Baiyue descent.
      When talking about Austroasiatic speaking tribes, that really depends on whose classification system you're replying on. The Miao and Yao languages are sometimes classified as an Austroasiatic language, but for the most part they're classified under Sino-Tibetan. You also may be talking about the Tai people, which Tai languages have influenced Austroasiatic ones, but again, they're not the same.

    • @Kpoper4life
      @Kpoper4life 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Jack Jacky We're also talking about Chinese populations that immigrated to Cambodia. Cambodia has a very small Chinese community and the subgroups that are most present are the Teochew, Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka, and Hainanese. I'm not arguing that South China doesn't have other ethnic minorities other than Han, but those are the ones specifically with historical records that show migration to Cambodia.

    • @MeiinUK
      @MeiinUK 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@Kpoper4life : People need to understand something, the "Hans" is actually an actual time period. That time period, allow at least like 3 tribes or groups to merge together. Officially. Cos there are government (that time) documents to support this. And you can find actual archeological artefacts to support this as well. "North Hans", could be, Hans, but they left the China's boundary and went further North, and intermingled with other tribes which lives up there. This is whereby, it depends on the actual database that run these DNA tests. They are as accurate, or as granular as they are, depending on whom they reference.
      This is a MAP. I do not think it is a general map of every single person, but I think it is the "Majority of in this region" kind of map.
      upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ca/World_Map_of_Y-DNA_Haplogroups.png
      There is also Tibet as well. I do not know if "North Hans" means, when the Tibetan tribes, married the Hans princess... "Korean" is very very simple to detect, because, they kept to themselves all these years... So their DNA, is kind of, quite pure. Same with Japan. They can trace every single family-tree for at least centuries... So can South Korea. In North Korea, they control the family-tree !
      With Canton, or in HK, I think there were tribes there before, and Hans went further South... cos they ran away from the fights from the Northern tribes. So this is why they stayed. Have not seen them break down the Southern Hans (with further sub groups).

    What people don't understand is that these tests aren't always 100% reflective of your actual ancestry. They only show you one particular line of your family tree. If you test your siblings and parents, you can get a better idea of your actual heritage because you will see other genetic lineages within your heritage. They list percentages based on reference individuals from that country. Country borders change and people move around. And I can say the same about Europe or most other regions of the world. I really doubt there's that much genetic difference between Thai, Vietnamese, and Cambodian people because of their physical and cultural proximity. I can say the same of European, African, and North and South American native ethnicities as well.

    • @nurimahrasidz271
      @nurimahrasidz271 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't that alot of ancestry? Or perhaps ur ancestry is considered closely related that's why you find it not interesting? Singapore and Malaysia are multi racial. Malay itself is very diverse actually. The Philipines has a group called themselves Malay. In indonesia also have Malay. Africa have Malay. And Singaporean Malay, hv mix ancestry, mostly Indonesian and by Indonesian could be a Bawean, Bugis, Javanese and maybe ithers that I hv not heard of. Also, Malays during WW2 and post WW2 hv adopted Chinese children. Malays are quite a mix actually.

    • @rachelcookie321
      @rachelcookie321 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nurimahrasidz271 it’s not very interesting because those areas are all closely related. Italian is the most interesting one. When I did my ancestry test I didn’t have anything that made me go “wow, that’s interesting!”. Like I said, Italian was the only really interesting one but I already knew my great grandmother was from Italy. All the other stuff is pretty standard for a British person. Scottish: well I’m from Scotland, my mum is Scottish and my dad’s dad’s dad is from Scotland too. Irish: well my dad is from Liverpool and there was a lot of Irish immigrants in Liverpool. England: my dad is English, two out of four of his grandparents are English born. Welsh: well Liverpool is close to Wales so that could of got in there easy. Sweden, Denmark, Norway: the vikings invaded Scotland so lots of Scottish people have Scandinavian dna. It’s pretty normal. I was hoping for something interesting I didn’t know about. Maybe it would say like the Czech Republic or like I’m like 1% Nigerian. I got nothing from other regions that are not typical for British people except Italian.

    Literally there's a lot of Ethnic Breakdown for being an Indonesian, "Malay" is also Indonesian because there are Malays in Sumatra and being Malay is different than being Malaysians.
