- James Brown performing "Medley: Cold Sweat / Ride The Pony / Cold Sweat" during his concert at the Boston Garden, on April 5, 1968.
The concert became a thing of legend. Only 24 hours earlier civil rights activist Dr Martin Luther King had been assassinated resulting in widespread violence across the United States. The mayor of Boston was persuaded to let the concert go ahead and it was broadcast live across the city by WGBH-TV. Featuring inspiring speeches and legendary performances, James Brown’s concert is said to have contributed majorly to maintaining calm and peace throughout the city that night.

Clyde stayed in the pocket... Man that solo was a beast!!!!!!
Maaaan listen...these guys were robotic like with the precision and concentration..this is what A.I. is built off of...this generation has no clue..they think things just pop up and appear like magic..they have no clue that actual humans did this..
The drum break is genius level skill. Clyde's left hand is so good . Amazing stuff. Proto drum and bass.
Clyde’s solo…pure unadulterated perfection
I've said on numerous occasions: he was BEFORE everybody else!!...a Classic MasterPiece...also, Baritone Sax player St. Clair Pickney was the musician that played with James throughout James's WHOLE career, that's loyality...
yes indeed St.Clair was a very loyal musician to James, and the bassist Fred Thomas were loyal too eventhough he quit for a few years
Yes from 61 to 95 i I recall
My favourite of his band.
Thought Maceo got overused on his late 60’s songs
Maceo
That drum solo though
Maaan listen...my kids be thinking I'm crazy but the more I play it they get it
Yes
Man he working those drums. Like my pops he can blow on this
Clyde stubblefield ; Father of modern drumming.
My kids just look at me like I'm🤷🏿

Once upon a time, giants walked the earth (and played funky music)!
*There Was A Time giants walked the earth.
This one song basically birthed a whole genre. Rest in Power Mr Brown

Those 1/16th notes by Clyde are absolutely insane.

He's still untouchable!!!!
Nothing is ever going to be better than this.
How the drummer kerps up with a suit and tie on amazes me.
He had to otr he would've been fined. James gave hand signals to his band. He was not playing, ✌️💯😊
He's a Stubblefield! Clyde Stubblefield!
Every man wore suits and ties in those days. But yea, still impressive.
THIS HAS 2 B PLAYED AS LOUD AS POSSIBLE
them drums man ......POW POW WOW.... ASTOUNDING
The Godfather of Soul 🤩🤜🤛🕰️ for ever...
The One, "On the One " Mr. James Brown...Soul Brother Number 1🎉
What a FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE! SOUL BROTHER # 1 showing how a performance should be, the band is so tight too, Maceo doing that sax solo and that guitar is killin it, EVERYTHING IS TIGHT!!!!
Legend Icon. Godfather of Soul music live forever. Continue RIP.❤🙏🎶🎶💃
I know the band was in the moment. I know the band did this every single performance. But that instrumental break is so sublime. There had to be something spiritual about Dr. King's passing, what the moment was, and the greater good they did for Boston that night. With the confluence of circumstances, this is one of the 10 greatest musical performances of all-time, up there with Queen at Live Aid or Jimi's anthem at Woodstock.
where it really shines is in 'Papa Don't Take No Mess' it fades in and out so beautifully. Wait. have you seen the one where he goes to Zaire? marvelous!
Maceo on the sax and Clyde Stubblefield on drums, cannot be surpassed
NO ONE....& that's NO ONE BEFORE OR AFTER. I first saw JB.@ 11 years old

Woooow....the drummer and these musician's robotic labor has evolved to A.I.....artist today have it so easy..
Who else came here just for that gut buster drum solo from Stubblefield? JB never paid him either, can you imagine that ? 🎶🥁🙌❤️
He is the heart beat of soul . Truly the GOAT. Hands down.
Ive heard this on record many times but somehow seeing that he was blowing into james's mic makes it even better.
Soooo good!🎉
When I heard "Ride the Pony," I immediately also heard Cymande's "Bra": "But it's alright, we can still go on." I had to go and listen to it just to check. I feel certain "Bra" was influenced by it.
6:42 genius at work

Esplêndido, em memória.
7:29 Bass player is Tim Drummond. Can see him briefly in the spotlight during Get It Together at this show. I think he's playing a Vox bass model Cougar or Escort (you can the Vox headstock logo on his bass).
Thank you, genius bass line!
Do you know who the guitarists were on this gig?
@@risteardohaodha23 No I don't know but feel free to research it like I did!
