I didn't mind Zoey as a character that much but I always hated how everyone treated her like she was some kinda god. They put her on a pedestal acting like she was the best at everything.
I always assumed Zoey's archetype was the "hottest blonde" that was popular at the time this was made. In a sense, he was whipped because the assumption was goofy guys like chase were super simps for the hot blonde popular girl at school. Again, this is what I had assumed.
That happens when you have a script without strong argument, and characters lack in depth: "he always liked her, who knows why or how, but that's how the story goes"
Nobody told her no. That's the thing. Then poor Alexis got dragged so f---ing badly because she was a supporting actress who didn't cater to Jamie Lynn like everyone else--and even worse, Dan Schneider enabled and encouraged it.
I always hated her demeanor. She was always annoyed or irritated. Never positive and happy. She also liked to boss people around and got mad when she didn’t get her way.
In earlier seasons Zoey was decent and likable and she was the mom friend of the group and was always helping others and she was creative but she got meaner and more unlikable in later seasons . Quinn and Lola were more likable and interesting than Zoey
@angelic dove I honestly was planning on rewatching Zoey 101, just to make a video of song moments that are in my mind rent free. I may want to still make the video, but I need to know if anyone commenting in this video (and the uploader) is interested in it or not.
To be fair, that is true of almost all of Dan’s characters. They either get meaner or they get dumber (e.g. Drake and Cat). Tori is an incredible protagonist compared to Zoey.
@@randomnessatitsfineness190 I’d say I like her and Miranda’s acting more than you do. Zoey is probably my least favourite in that she is the least fleshed out and also the least main character - while a lot of people argue Carly and particularly Tori got overshadowed by their ensemble they’re still treated like main characters by the show, which Zoey isn’t. But yeah, I think Carly is fine, though I will say iCarly as a show is one I don’t love as much as other people.
@@televisiontourism571 Tori is overhated she did do some terrible things like when she kissed Cat’s boyfriend who was her ex even though he kissed her back and had the cheese fountain explode on them and kissed Beck for an acting exercise and he kissed her back even though he didn’t have to but Tori learned from her mistakes and always tried to do the right thing
@@kieranstark7213 is anyone actually saying that? The general consensus when people revisit his shows is that they’ve aged badly. I think you can (and should) criticise the shows and what happened behind the scenes without pretending no one ever got any enjoyment from them. We don’t need to banish them from public consciousness to acknowledge their flaws. Critique and praise can coexist without cancelling the other out.
Watching the show in it's original language made me realize that the girl who doubled her voice in Spanish was doing an amazing work, I never thought that she could sound so cold and boring
See, the difference between Tori and Zoey is, that Victoria Justice sold her character well. The reason why Tori is hated isn't because Victoria is a bad actress, but because the writers did a horrible job at writing and developing her character. On the other side, Zoey was written to be a "good" character, but it was Jamie playing that character in a lazy and low effort way, turning Zoey into a bratty/annoyed character. This is what people hating on Tori shouldn't forget: It's not Victoria's fault that the writers gave her character the mean undertone. She worked well with whatever garbage the writers came up with. Hate the character, not the actress in this case. However, Jamie was just giving no effort to play Zoey. Zoey's character was fine, it was Jamie playing her with absolutely no passion and with no emotion.
Nah, Victoria in real life used to bully Alexa Nikolas who played Nicole on Zoey 101 alongside Jamie Lynn for no reason she bullied poor Alexa... She is getting back what she deserves. She was always a bully same as JL
Well he had the biggest crush on her, he was still into her despite her flaws. If I’m being honest chase came off sometimes as too obsessive and creepy
You know it's funny how during the time when the show was on that it didn't seem like Zoey was mean but now rewatching this as an adult I absolutely agree Chase deserved someone a lot better and prettier than Zoey
maaan at least in victorious victoria could actually act. poor sean flynn had to carry the LEAD character of a show because jamie couldnt act to save her life
Tbf I would aruge more that Chase was more of a lead then Zoey. A lot of episodes foucs on him solely and zoey is just the second important focus. Sean Flynn was the true lead. He was talented!
Victoria is an incredibly talented actress and singer/songwriter who was victim of lazy writing and character development as well as homophobia (I’ll get to that point later) as well as an overcrowded cast. I’m gonna get a lot of hate for saying this, but Victorious didn‘t need Cat (she was almost exclusively used for quick and lazy jokes) or Beck (who was used to make Jade look more human). If Victorious had more competent screenwriters/producers you would have had Tori as a talented, yet insecure person with Jade as a jealous person who didn’t think Tori should be at HA. The main plot would have been those two slowly coming to terms (with Jade first seeing Tori as unworthy, than a threat later as someone who pushes her to her best performances) with Tori getting more and more confident. Towards the end a Jori-Story developes and they end up together (which was the original plan of Dan, but Nickelodeon forced him to abandon it (therefore I said Victoria was a victim of homophobia)). Andre could end up with a nice girlfriend and Robbie could have a Freddie storyline, while slowly eating rid of Rex. Trina could come to terms with the fact that she isn’t one for the performing arts but rather karate.
@@loeykalel440 The subtext between Jade and Tori is too big to not be intentional. Also there were at least three kisses between them that were written out of the script (Play Date; Tori goes Platinum and Victori-Yes)

You do realize Chase's whole reason of existing as a character is to be in love with Zoey, right? There's no point to him if he's not after Zoey. Logan and Michael had by far more personality and charisma because their characters were better written. Chase seems shallow because his existence is solely to win Zoey's affection.
@PWLPC Unscripted she didn't retire, she had a baby and they couldn't use her in kid shows being a 15yo single mom. She had a few failed country artist attempts and doesn't have a lot of talent to speak of. Otherwise, at her age, she would have a career if she was any good at acting.
when i was little i didnt realize it was bad acting i just thought zoey had a weird way of expressing her emotions like she always seemed blank and indifferent all the time
The actress having such an easy time portraying a spoiled, snotty, eye-rolling brat, but not being able to act in scenes requiring sincerity speaks volumes to her attitude in real life. Especially when a certain someone who worked with her mentioned that Jamie didn't treat her too kindly.
Hot take, but it's a trend with many Nick shows that there's a bland female lead that's carried heavily by the supporting cast. The protagonist is usually the least interesting/entertaining part of their own show.
I think that because they want the main character to be a blank slate for the audience to attach themselves too. There a name for this but I just cannot remember it.

In the first two seasons she wasn't so bad but she got just really mean especially in the last season she seemed irritated and checked out of acting. Honestly it was a real treat that the other characters got a little more of a spotlight during the the later seasons. Every female Nick protagonist is like that though. Tori & Carly were also little-miss-perfects who everyone loves and admires. The only one who I can think of from the same era of nick shows who wasn't like that is Mose.
Jamie wasn’t the best. She was literally only the star of the show because of who her sister is. The producers used her for endorsements and money. At the end of the day, they didn’t even care about her. The moment they found out she was pregnant, they turned on her and Nickelodeon dumped and replaced her like she never existed.
@@xlixity true, but Tori was more likely to be called on her crap by her friends and frenemy, Jade. And she had flaws, but was still likeable. Friendly reminder that the scenes between Zoey and chase in season 4 are them just talking to blank screens. And yet chase is showing far more emotion than Zoey ever did
Even as a kid I always knew her acting was so flat. Very limited range for a protagonist, and I didn’t appreciate how she was always seen as “perfect girl ” when she’s clearly not🤦🏾♀️
Proof that you can be a super shitty person but still be the main character just because you’re considered pretty. Kinda like in real life, how super shitty people get away with lots of things ugly or average people wouldn’t.
Yeah. She was okay, but she was bad at times. In Lola Likes Chase, Zoey kept bringing up how it would be weird for Lola and Chase to be going out, but got mad at Nicole because she asked her if she wanted to talk about it the second time she brought it up. Then, she would tell Nicole the reason she felt a way is because she didn't want to see anybody get hurt. I didn't buy that excuse. Why would one of them get hurt? Nobody else was dating Chase. She would also get mad at Chase because of his time with Lola. Something was wrong with Zoey and she should've told Chase or Lola what it really was. She didn't know what she wanted. It was confusing.
Even if it was rude for Michael and Lola to invite themselves to James and Zoey's dates. However, I felt Zoey was pretty entitled and rude in this episode. Like being upset that Quinn was at the restaurant, acting like Quinn tagged along on their date. When reality, like James and Zoey, she and Logan only came to the restaurant to have a nice date alone. Stealing the lobster pissed me off. That is my biggest pet peeve, I had a friend whenever we went out for McDonald's or something. Whenever someone asks her to watch their food when they left she will always help herself to fries or chicken nugget. It pissed me off, it's one thing to ask but its another thing to take without asking. Then dumping it under the table, like they better leave a big tip for the waiter who had to clean that up afterwards.
Gosh, I never realized how toxic Zoey is. I love how Chase was mad at her in Goodbye Zoey. It honestly just proves how disgusting she truly is. I also loved when Lola turned on Zoey in the Miss PCA episode. She needed that.
I'm so glad I found this video. I've been saying this since I was young and watching this. Zoey definitely got meaner as the seasons went on and no one ever really talked about it. She would always be rude to her friends by rolling her eyes and making snarky comments, overall just giving a bad attitude and vibes. Smh so glad everyone sees it now though now that we're older.
@@johnathancarpentermiller6450 Zoey was definitely wrong for that. However, Logan’s dad was able to get him out of Anger Management for which I find to be ridiculous. Logan had anger issues to work out but Zoey was also wrong for trying to provoke Logan.

Totally! The original one has no emotions. What's wrong with Jamie? A robot could show more emotions! I'm glad I saw the synchronized version. Thanks to her voice actor!
I’m so glad it’s not just me who liked Zoey less and less as the series went on. I thought she was really nice in the first season and for most of the second (although she started showing her bitchy side more in the second) but by the third and especially fourth she was just so rude and conceited for no reason. It always annoyed me how Logan was framed as the most selfish person of the group (he was selfish don’t get me wrong) but other characters could be just as bad as him. Like Zoey destroying his art project, that was no better than what Logan did.
Right?! Even when Zoey was trying to get him mad, it was moments where his anger is actually very justified and shouldn't have to be sent to anger management class for that.
Growing up zoey 101 was like my favorite show. Seeing this it shows she wasn't actually that good an actress and Zoey actually just cared about her self. So in reality Jamie-Lynn was just playing herself
Yea I've been watching a lot of videos of people talking about her she is rude and a bully and to full of herself. She bullied alexa Nickolas and made her quit like jaime lynn spears needs to grow up also its mostly her fault of why they can't get a zoey 101 sequle.
I loved this show when I was young. This video really made me see in retrospect what I didn't really notice before, of just how terrible of a personality Zoey had. How could Chase have had such strong feelings for her?
I'll be honest, Zoey is the reason I couldn't stand this show. She always just seemed to lack a personality outside of "I'm Zoey". 👁👄👁 And poor Chase fell in love with THAT.

@@gloriana13 Sorry if my comment is all over the place. •The first two scenes communicates to the audience that Chase already has set of issues with Vince prior to him even cheating. Chase sarcastically downplayed Vince's accomplishments as the school's quarterback with his snarky remark "There he is....The Great Vince Blake" and even insulted his intelligence without being brovoked into doing so "Vince isn't such as big shot when he has to use his brain". •When our male protagonist told his roommates that he witnessed Vince taking pictures of the test, Logan nonchalantly responds with "So what if he was?", which ends up rubbing Chase the wrong way. Chase doesn't care about PCA's honor code, because if he really did, he would have brought it to Dean Rivers, or his history teacher's attention. But instead he arrogantly chose to confront Vince directly. Not as a means to confirm what he had already witnessed like he suggested, but as a means to assort his dominance over the football hero. Now all this is relevant because when I take the time to think about it. Logan and Vince really aren't that different. Logan constantly takes pictures and videos of himself to send to girls, he publicly works out to draw the attention of the girls on campus and even had 3 of his female friends dress up as cheerleaders and fallow him around as an ego boost. You can easily compare this to girls asking Vince to take pictures of/with Vince and asking him for his autograph etc. Now this normally wouldn't be a big deal, but this only seems to be bothering Chase because he has all of his female friend's sexual attention(including Zoey). On the previous episode when the gang suspected a secret romance between Logan and Zoey, Chase immediately disregards this possibility and tells his friends that she'd never date a *jerk* like Logan. He even states that he knows Logan is a jerk because they're such good friends. And with the exception of chemistry, Logan is a C and D average student. Despite this fact, Chase seems to think very little of Vince's intelligence, but doesn't seems to ever encourage his friend to do better academically. And based on Micheal's statement on the Miss PCA pageant episode, Logan isn't exceptionally good at basketball and football. Seems to me like the only difference between Vince and Logan, is Vince's talent and his ability to attract Zoey. They both even ended up going to therapy for their bad attitudes. I mentioned that Chase tries his best to discredit Vince as football hero. And based on his conversation with Zoey by then end of the episode makes me think she picked up on his envy and his insecurities. Once Chase finishes telling Zoey he snitched on Vince, he tells her that he'll stay on the court to shoot some airballs, and replies with "you're good at that". It almost implies that Chase wanted the status of a star athlete. If you watch the intro/opening of the 3rd season, you'll see Chase throwing a football In a goofy manner. I've watched every episode of that season, and I can't seem to pinpoint that particular scene. I think it may have been a flashback of Chase trying out for the football team and the director removed it order to paint Chase in a better light. If that scene actually is in the show and I missed it, feel free to correct me. Conclusion: ultimately, Chase just had some insecurities and tried to mask them with righteousness. Although Zoey set Chase up by the end of the episode(my headcanon)....dude really had it coming.
@@Breeze06 do you all think that this episode and Vince is back is like a representation of cancel culture. The first episode is about a famous person that everyone loves and then it’s revealed that they did something problematic (cheat on a test), but there are people that still more worried about the thing that the celebrity/Vince does in his career (play football) and not being able to play rather than holding them accountable for the bad thing they did. The ending (the football players attacking Chase) could represent how the toxic stans will attack you if you say anything negative about that person. And being expelled could represent the consequences that famous person eventually gets. The second episode can represent the person trying to get back onto everyones good side and convince everyone they have changed.

I think it's like 90% Jamie's fault for making Zoey a bad character. No emotion, no passion. She seemed very stiff. Now compare Jamie's way of acting to Raven Symone from Disney's That's so Raven. Raven actually put her whole heart into her character, not being shy to do physical stunts or improvise with facial expressions. Even with Miranda playing Carly, if Carly is upset, you can tell just by seeing how Miranda acts; the posture, the facial expressions and her dynamic. Compared to Zoey, Zoey was just stiff and she seemed to do the bare minimum and followed the script to the core. Not a single drop of Jamie's own charme or influence, no improvisation. Just stiff, robotic and undynamic.
Zoey's character, especially in the later seasons, reminds me of a Mary Sue. Not sure if she is one but she has some characteristics of one. Super talented and athletic. Everyone wants to be her friend (those who don't are usually antagonists like Chase's ex-girlfriend). Even well she's being mean, she's still viewed being in the right.

No she didn't lol.
The Spears sisters are terrible actors. If Britney didn't have the entire media apparatus behind her in the late 90s she never would've made it.
Try watching Britney's film "Crossroads" from 2002 and tell me she emits charisma.

I remember as a kid the first time I was like “um wait” was when she was like “I’m zoey are you new?” I was like sooooo annoyed that she was that rude to a friend and that she figured just because she’s zoey she could fix anything
Carly is definitely the best protagonist of all of the Schneider showsn

I don't know I think honestly I like Sam the best yea Sam was mean but she was real to like Carly she fell in love with like every dam guy she saw. She didn't even know what true love is Sam I think was even better for Freddie than Carly was Carly just doesn't know anything about loving someone. She just likes any guy she looks at just being real here.
She, Sam, and Freddie were an iconic duo of their time and you can’t tell me otherwise ♥️
Jamie couldn’t act to save her life. I knew that even at 12😂
Her character was annoying. She always thought she was perfect and she was such a brat all the time. Lola and Quinn were my favorites.
That scene when Quinn injured her back and Zoey left to have a date with Lance annoyed me. A date shouldn't be more important than your best friend. Couldn't she have called for help to get Quinn to the Nurse's office before she could go on her date? Common sense.
You ever get so into your character you have to roll your eyes every few minutes? Zoey Brooks does.
It's so obvious she's only famous cuz of her sister Britney spears. She can't act one bit. Sad how Britney wrote a song and praised Jamie Lynn and jamie Lynn took advantage of her fame and used Britney for fame. Pathetic. We love you Britney.
Knowing what she and her family did to Britney Spears, it's no wonder she was unable to convey any emotion
you can see what Britney was talking about Jaimie Lynn dying her hair like Xtina
Also, can we have a compilation of Logan receiving way to much harsh of his friends for little reason? I remember the group being very hard on him sometimes. He wasnt that bad after all...
Logan was a jerk and he was cocky and full of himself but he did have character development when he started dating Quinn he showed his soft side . Also when Zoey, James, and Dustin were purposely trying to make Logan angry so he would have to go to anger management class that was petty of them even though that voicemail he left Dustin was mean
@@azzz7279 I remember a lot of scenes where he was being nice, and everyone treated him poorly.
as much as i cant stand zoey, logan was much worse than her. he was just a misogynistic rich white boy, chase and michael deserve better after putting up with him for so long. i warmed up to him in season 4 but for most of the show he was unbearable, there were a few times where they were unnecessarily mean to him but most of the time their anger towards him was justified
@@grumpyrainbow3289 I agree Logan was definitely the worst character I couldn’t stand him.
@@AmiriHipHop now that I think about it, you're right. Logan can be so annoying but Zoey and the others were definitely wrong for that.
Part of me thinks she set up Chase to get beaten up by the football team. As soon as she left the basketball court, they showed up.
Sounds just a little right 🙄
@@gloriana13 Sorry if my comment is all over the place.
@@Breeze06 wow.
@@Breeze06 I was just thinking how Chase already had a problem with him before the cheating thing. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Victoria Justice was a way better actress than Jaime. I’m so glad she got her show!
Same even Erin Sanders (Quinn) was great too and Abby (Stacey) too
she wasn't acting. she's just a meanie.
she's the only protagonist out of the whole 'we hate on the main character cuz we're DiFfErEnT' thing that was legitimately terrible. jamie wasn't a very good actress, nor was zoey a compelling character. they really should have cast someone else but we probably wouldn't have gotten that fire theme tune!
Zoey does have a dark side.
Jamie has a dark side
I was wildly in love with Zoey growing up, and now I simp for toxic blondes and get hurt over and over. Some things never change 💙
Same
So then learn to identify toxic personalities, the fuck 🙄
In your defense, Jamie is gorgeous on the outside
I agree
never realized how much she rolls her eyes
I can’t believe I used to like Zoey as a kid.. She’s horrible.. I honestly believe Jaime was just being her awful self..
She has one emotion she can act when she really "digs deep": annoyed.
I liked the side characters more than her. She always seemed so bland to me. This is just my personal opinion.
I liked Zoey in Season 1. She was the naive new girl on campus that always wanted to help her friends in any way she could. Sure, there were times where she was annoying. But you at least still got the implication that she meant well. But as the show went on, she became more arrogant, bossy, nosey, unlikable, and a little sadistic. She was practically Jamie Lynn Spears playing herself. Season 1 Zoey and Seasons 3-4 Zoey are NOT the same character at all
@@superjackster0165in season 1 she was such a Mary Sue and entitled. What annoyed me about her in season 1 was when she had a whole plate of food and she was eyeing Nicole’s plate of grapes , so she could feel guilty about not eating them so she could give them to Zoey. Why couldn’t she get her own grapes?
I wanted to be VERY CLEAR that the only reason I did not complete the video was not because of your superb editing but rather the lack of emotion zoey had I guess I never realized how horrendous her acting was at the time.
Yikes.
Zoey was nice and a good friend to her friends in season one. But then in season 2 and 3 she became mean and unlikeable
Agreed. I liked season 1 but after that she just became a huge brat and I couldnt stand her. and my heart hurts for Alexa quitting because of her, she didn’t deserve anything Jamie did to her
Facts. She was more down to earth in seasons one and two. Something happened in seasons three and four, that made me look at her some type of way. She just wasn't likable to me.
