Battery terminal + touted through a switch and connected on the 8th pin of the 555 ic. Yes it is directly possible to replace the LED by a low current buzzer.

This is working on the principal of laser diode and photo detection. When need to be implemented in real case, multiple long range ir detectors or laser detectors need to be used.
