- Unlock the US Forest Service’s secret to sharpening a Pulaski axe for maximum efficiency! In this #shorts clip, I walk you through the exact method used by wildland firefighters to keep their Pulaski tools sharp and ready for the toughest jobs. Whether you’re cutting, chopping, or digging, a sharp Pulaski is essential for any outdoor task.
In this video, I demonstrate the sharpening process using both the Lansky Dual Grit Puck and the Norton India Sharpening Stone. The Lansky Puck is perfect for restoring the edge with its coarse and fine sides, while the Norton India Stone gives the Pulaski its final razor-sharp edge. These sharpening tools are crucial for keeping your gear in top condition, just like the pros in the field.
Tools Used:
🔪 Lansky Sharpening Puck
🪒 Norton India Stone
🛢️ Ballistol Multi-Purpose Oil - To keep tools protected after sharpening.

Are they okay?
@@Bravadosjebsimbahsm he just broke his finger and Jack is soon to be/already left for college
@northernfarmer98exactly, I love the content, but deep down there is a lot of hypocrisy
@northernfarmer98 I'm pretty sure he's in wildland firefighting not college
@@Random_sh1t245 What about his nose, someone pinched him 😂
I’ve always maintained my fire equipment very well, but I never got too carried away with sharpness, then I watched your videos and grabbed a pocket stone. Works a lot easier with sharp tools and I like that I can still file to shape and finish with the stone. My rogue hoe was sharp when I got it, now it stays that way.
Sometimes you annoy me...but it's only because I'm WILDLY unprepared. You're a good dude, I think.⚔️
I can relate to that. Sometimes when I'm bothered by people, I have to really think about why. Sometimes it's because they're saying something true and it makes me feel woefully inadequate.
Absolutely love your content. Nothing better than doing a sharpening video with a Band-Aid on. thank you again love the content
Brother, you should make a playlist of all your home defense tricks like the caltrops and whatnot all in one place. It would be much appreciated.
Keep up the amazing work!!!
You can do that too bro
@@bribbertyjibbert I would but ever since they removed the video names from shorts while going through the full list on a channel, I can't tell which are ProHo home defense tips from everything else.
I’ve never used any source of fuel for a stone oil. Interesting!
Judging by the bandage, the tools are sharp lol. I use the puck. Love mine. Still works great after years of use
A lovely-sharp axe.
Pulaski, it's more than an axe
Why do you look like Shane Gillis in a lab coat
Finally great content again very informative 👍🏼
Propably expensive to the point we cant afford them
Lansky puck stones are 10-15 dollars. So I hope you can afford that. If not go grab a rock off the ground.
You're the Man Brother...
Great video and God bless you and your family
... and now it's so sharp I almost cut off my finger😆
Got a boo boo on your finger?😂
Ive been using a double sided diamond file. My axes are all nearly shave sharp.
Hope you're feeling better big man
Spit has entered the chat
Hope you’re staying as sharp as that Axe brother💪🏽🔥
That white powder looks 👌.
Try Mineral Spirits
Nowadays it's hard to become a professional homeowner
Must be nice to have the time to devote to these minute details.
Grinder with a flap disc and bucket of water…done 😂
Gotta keep that axe sharp for the coming struggle
I was taught to start with a file then the stone. Perhaps his Pulaski was barely used and he was just cleaning it up
use an concrete brick instead of an file
Balistol. You reali are a serious pro ho
Isn’t that the garmin fénix you are wearing? In your video about watch collection I thought it was your most hated watch, if I may ask why did you start wearing it again? And what band are you using with it?
What kind of ax do you use? Brand?
Glad to see your feet are still free!
I know you are all about the Proho but what if I rent and and something happens just looking for info
You maybe able to do a push cut with a axe, BUT can you do a pull cut with a axe!! ITS HARD TO DO MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT THAT PULL AXE CUT.
Safety has left the conversation. Please wear foot coverings
Hello Sir. Thank you for always sharing your experience. If I could kindly request a topic.. I would ask for your personal theology and definition of grace and redemption. If you read this yourself my gratitude would be huge. If you made a video on this topic, my interest would be enthralled. Thank you. -a young lad
What’s with the two watches?
Dug up some flat glacial granite, they're slowly becoming good sharpening stones
The sharper the ax is the less durable the edge is. Just saying
This channel is just QVC for MEN
There goes a finger again
Can you also use gasoline?
Do you have any advise on anti corrosion work on an axe head that’s got a little rust?
any oil will do
@@wranglerstar it’s a shame they let the axe’s get as rusty as they have. I wish they oiled it instead of painting it red
I hope your daughter made that multi-colored bracelet...otherwise I'll need you to immediately turn in two man cards.
My man card is well established. I’ve got 16 years of receipts on TH-cam,
Back to the simpler times 😂
Finger is orange!
Do you have to use kerosene/diesel or can i use something else to sharpen ??
I think it's preferred as it lubricates and carries away the filings without introducing water to the steel. And unlike oil, it will eventually evaporate once you're done using the stone.
Yeah but it freaking reeks. Cant stand the smell of diesel/ kerosine. @mrblack5145
@@ravenovatechnologies6554 I suppose you could *maybe* use something like isopropyl alcohol, but that has a strong smell as well and it will evaporate much faster. Perhaps there's a commercial fluid that can be used instead, but the kerosene/diesel option is simply more readily available.
@@mrblack5145 it's only diesel and kerosine that bother me for some reason. Isopropyl is fine, and I'm sure there's a thousand oils I could use no issue.
Angle grinder bruh, because i dont have time for that but then again, my axes aren't from sweden.
Nor are they sharp,
@@wranglerstarYeah because if u use youre axe, it will get stump from felling splitting and knotts ,its not a kitchen knife , it doesnt need to be that sharp
You know everything,
It might cut paper, how about the hairs on your arm next time?
That's a pull-cut
Puck u wranglerpolygon 😅
You cut your finger w that
barefoot. LMFAO
What happened to your finger?
Like is axe finger cutting sharp 😂
You call it an axe. I like to think of it as a vote.
Does this dude sell drugs like how tf does he afford all this stuff
It’s a fire axe not a scalpel. Get over it.
why lie about what stone you used WCM?
To sit on your head, dummy,
😊
What a hipster homesteader.
My flap disc on my angle grinder does just fine
