This is the real deal, as a man struggling with depression and a fan of Chris, thank you Chris for all you did to bring this to public attention, peace
In sad reflection, it seems that this song is a supernatural occurence. As a standalone text, these lyrics, not set to music, are the struggle, justification and apology for what has happened. This man was not only able to channel this internal struggle into incredibly simple, haunting phrases, but set them to the perfect melody and sung with the all the emotion they illustrate. Of All the Lyrics I've ever heard in the context of a complete message these are now the most powerful and absolutely mind blowing I've ever heard. Rest in Peace Chris Cornell, Thanks for staying as long as you did and for the amazing music.
@Judas Iscariot I think the point the op was trying to make was that this particular song captured the emotion, complexity and gravity of the experiences in "incredibly simple, haunting phrases" better than he's heard anyone else do it. And it took amazing talent and insight to pull it off. But I agree with you it is an opinion and not a conclusion. and I also agree with his opinion :-)
Your observation is brilliant and I too find much of his words/titles,particularly on the last 3 SG albums(of their original run so excluding KA) to be so prophetic that I don’t understand why it came as such a shock. When Layne Stayley passed it was something I had feared for the entire time I was an Alice fan and when Weiland died(showing my age by still referring to him only by his last name, younger fans might not get that) it felt like he had pulled a trigger in 1996 and it took 9 years to complete his suicide(I know it was an od I’m just using a metaphor),because both artist’s struggles were highly publicized. Chris’ songs were arguably the darkest and depressive of the 3 yet publicly he seemed to have a quiet but pleasant dignity and almost zen like nature. Maybe that’s why songs with titles like Pretty Noose and Like Suicide among others didn’t point to an extremely troubled man. Especially in his final years when he seemed to be blissful in his professional and personal life. For the record I don’t support or buy the conspiracy angle which nikliss6 as turned into a cottage industry....sorry,I get annoyed when I think of him. I’m really just saying you ,are a great point and that there are others who feel this way. Plus it’s nice to talk to someone who is also a passionate fan, preferably not want who would recruit me into his cult using 4th hand information to show he knew Chris’ own wife better than Chris. Thanks for your insightful comment which will make a song I love even more beloved. Thanks brother
This may be the truest version I've seen of this song... Chris looks almost forced to be on the earth. Just the way he's playing this particular session of this song, such intensity in strumming, such sadness in the way he's varied the Melodies slightly from the album version. It's almost like he's realized these words were what his life would come to. So talented, so loved, so badly antagonized by his own mind. Most people will never know what that feels like... thank God for them. RIP to you Chris Cornell, my loudest inspiration.
RIP to one of the greatest voices of a generation. One of my favorite singers and artist of all time. A voice that was not long for this world. We lost a legend and the world is less because of this.
Top class and good ppl here.. Fukn miss you man.. Layne,Mike.. thankful for the times had .. the stars Must belong to the sky .. never forgotten, always missed. Legend of a voice and man. ♡
His voice is so amazing. The whole time you think he's gonna choke or something because its so scratched but then he pulls off those long notes with so much feeling.
His music got me through a lot of tough times and that thought made me feel better, so figured I'd share. :) Crazy how a death of someone whom we don't know can leave a void in our hearts.
Mackenzie Bunker i just did the same thing. I guess you don't realise what someone's music means until they're gone. especially a talent and spirt like Chris. Grew up with the grunge era. Didn't think it'd hit me so hard and I'm the type who thinks it's pathetic when people get upset about celebs
i havnt made a comment on youtube in years but here i am. r.i.p chris you showed me how to live and you will live with all of our hearts through your music. youve helped me through my black days and inspired me to sing/ play to find some solace in music. and i feel like ive lost apart of myself hearing you took your own life. i havnt cryed for anyone in years goodbye chris you will allways be remembered
It's my first comment after those 2 black weeks. I choose this song which I identify with my fucked-up life, it touches my heartstrings up to the nines.Thank you Dear Chris for the support by Your music. I can't imagine this world without Your beautiful and sensitive soul. Love you, goodbye in Heaven.., A.

3:14 Soul-wrenching, other-worldly, haunting note. These acoustic versions expose the true pain and genius of these once in a lifetime artists. This, Alice unplugged (down in a hole), Nirvana (where did you sleep). I feel strangely guilty watching, like an accident on the highway. But at the same time too beautiful to turn away.
No one sings like you anymore. ~R.I.P. Chris. Survived by his beautiful children. Look up a performance of Chris Cornell and his daughter, Toni: Redemption Song. It may make you cry.
Man, I miss Chris so much. Never cared much when an artist died until him, brought tears to my eyes. I grew up with him and got through many things in life with his voice to push me to tomorrow. R.I.P sir.

Money... don't read too far into the lyrics many of them will haunt yet they all encircle one truth. Will not delve into that in this chat. All I can tell you is to listen to the lyric of your favourite songs very carefully.
One of a kind . First time I seen him with soundgarden in 1991 during a benefit concert. I stood there in awe as he sung the words in the jesus chris pose , and pointed right at me I just stood there looking at him . I finally looked around realized there was nobody near me,and he was pointing at me and mocked how I was standing haha . I was so amazed they sounded exactly, if not better than radio . The end of the sett Chris soloed ( pretty sure it was Chris ) everyone else walked off stage. Well after the solo he dropped the guitar, ( much like some non musical instrument talented people call drop the mic ) , walked off , waved . But wait theres more!! The reverb effect kept going and going , guitar lying there . 3 big stacks on top of one another ,on each of stage , the one on left facing me , the middle speaker starts to smoke. One of the stagehands poked his head out around the middle stack to see whats up and flames started rolling out . This guy moved his face back so fast, threw his cup of water or beer at It. I honestly dont know if he got burned but almost simultaneously his face azad and the flames me the front of that huge speaker. Thank God this northwest state had so many talented singers, and musicians to offer growing up here as a kid . His song " preaching the end of the world " is just masterful.
I... i.... keep deleting what i write.... nothing can describe how i feel. I miss him... I love him.. I respect him.... I will never forget... All my feelings go to his family and friends. Im so sorry.
I have never seen such a complete portrait of an artist in one peace of art. Lyrics, music and voice, alltogather expressing all of his sorrow, inner struggle, and desire to be different kind of soul, but in vain. Beautiful and so sad at the same time. Rip Chris, you fell on heaven's days, forever.
Still a gutter a year later. I watch Chris Cornell videos so much. He was amazing in Soundgarden and Audioslave, but the raw, stripped down versions of songs like this really drip with the emotion of true art. Hope this last year has been well for you, fellow human.
It was a lonely lazy day with nothing to do so I decided to get a bottle of Barefoot Moscato some wheelchair weed and spent the day relaxing and listening to the history of Chris Cornell what a day can't wait to do it again rest in peace Chris
I'm crying almost nonstop since AIC unplugged. I couldn't watch because Layne looked dead already. It was like a bloody car crash. But I'm watching now. If you sing those beautiful melodies with those black lyrics I think your headed the wrong way. So sad.

OH MY GOD!!! JUST AMAZING!!!! HIS VOICE JUST TOUCHING MY ENTIRE HEART❤ AND SOUL❤RIP CHRIS WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE AND RESPECT THE MAN BEHIND THE VOICE THAT CAN NEVER EVER BE REPLACED💔💔💔💔💔💔😢
I've listen to this video more times than I can count since I discovered it a week ago. It's unreal how good it really is. I have a new found respect for Chris and his music he puts his heart and soul into this so much on this video you can feel him like he's still alive and will never die. One of my all time favorites and the sound is so good. Thanks Chris Cornell for everything you gave us on your brief visit on earth you'll never be forgotten
173 people have disrespected one if the world's greatest rock and roll artists by disliking this video. His incredible vocal range, the hauntingly beautiful lyrics and his ability to play his songs acoustically are talents to never be forgotten. God damnit I'm glad to have seen him as many times as I did and saddened I never will again.
it's crazy... hearing and loving his music as you grow up, changing from an adolescent know-it-all, challenging the world and using music like Cornell's as an anthem to prove ourselves...then becoming a husband and father, and morphing to a protector and provider...and still his music transcends! Now FEELING this stripped down version...feeling the words and noticing them in a new light after his passing...how can anyone not goosebump and gut-wrench when you hear his pain go thru you. Only certain people can evoke these responses in others...masters of their craft. RIP Mr Cornell.
About 2 weeks before he passed, I woke up one morning and felt like hearing this song and came across this version, it sounds so perfect. Little did I know he would be leaving the world very soon. This song got me through my own black days as i'm sure it did for many others, just a timeless song. Rest In Peace Chris
Just fkin amazing .. Will never ever forget him . He will be on my headphones forever chilling me to the bone giving me goosebumps with those savage vocals.
The authenticity of this is pure. The talent. Man. No one will sing like you. Or write like you, or play like you ever again. Okay I'm off to work. Peace out brothers and sisters and just be grateful for today. You don't know your fate tomorrow
One of the best vocalists of my generation... I am in my 40's... It's 2023.
No studio magic, no auto-tune bullshit. Cornell has a impeccable voice
Agreed.... dude was phenomenal!
Yessss
the best
That's true!!!! But also at 2:08 watch him play.. not complex but at peace..
Layne Staley too
Best vocalist ever: Chris Cornell.
him and Bruce Dickinson

Exquisitely worded. 💜
We were robbed of one of the greatest voices ever
How bout we get revenge on the guy that did it oh wait he's dead
Who did what? I'm confused , I guess I didn't hear the whole story
Earth shattering. This is excellent.
we were blessed with one of the greatest vocalists ever
How where we robbbed? We at least got to have him for many years as an artist
Is this the best sound quality I've ever heard on TH-cam?
It's just that it's Chris. ;-)
+AltruiSisu I've been a Sound Garden fan forever but this audio is so good
Holy shit. You're right.
Thanks, Guys. I'm glad the audio came through well too...even though the video quality isn't great.
Marc Bolinger with earphones. no words needed.

That vibrato in his voice is just killer
This is like the calmest performance ever. It's so relaxing. You feel like you are flying towards heaven . RIP Cornell .
By far my favorite artist period. Temple of the dog, Soundgarden ,Audioslave ,and his solo stuff all hands down amazing and so sad he’s gone........
His solo stuff was in a later period than Soundgarden
His voice is so amazing. The whole time you think he's gonna choke or something because its so scratched but then he pulls off those long notes with so much feeling.
Yah, i think he wrote the song.
@@Neildo430ci ok?
I miss real music and actual musicians... and I miss Chris Cornell. Love this video.
I can't believe he's dead.... I'm supposed to be asleep rn but instead I'm watching this and balling my eyes out. His soul will not die. R I P🙏❤️🖤
His soul lives through his music, so you're right it'll never die. He's rocking out with Kurt, Layne and Scott now.
Matthew Esquerra yesssss that makes me feel a bit better. That would be the best jam sesh ever....

I miss you Chris. Thanks for all the good memories your music continues to bring to me and now my young son.
I love how the bassist breaks character towards the end with a big ass smile cause he's playing with one of the greats
Smile not because its over, rather, smile because it happened.
"It never gets old". That's what his smile would say if it could speak.
I saw that too.
He has a name, Ben Sheperd.
So sad to see him singing so beautifully this song.. I hate that we have lost him

Voice of an angel. Truly amazing.R.I.P. Chris.
Miss him.
You saved my life brother, for that I'm forever greatful. Rest In Peace Chris.
unreal, totally mesmerizing. Unreal talent. Sad, mournful voice. Absolutely amazing, unreal talent.
RIP Chris Cornell.... you will be missed but will never be forgotten....
I miss you chris :(
The most beautiful and handsome man with the most beautiful and handsome voice that ever was. God did that.
RIP Chris.... one of the dopest rockers ever!!!
Truth.
WOW! Speechless!
Rip your music has saved me from ending my own life. Thank you
Perfect Chris, we miss you...
it's crazy... hearing and loving his music as you grow up, changing from an adolescent know-it-all, challenging the world and using music like Cornell's as an anthem to prove ourselves...then becoming a husband and father, and morphing to a protector and provider...and still his music transcends! Now FEELING this stripped down version...feeling the words and noticing them in a new light after his passing...how can anyone not goosebump and gut-wrench when you hear his pain go thru you. Only certain people can evoke these responses in others...masters of their craft. RIP Mr Cornell.
This is art
About 2 weeks before he passed, I woke up one morning and felt like hearing this song and came across this version, it sounds so perfect. Little did I know he would be leaving the world very soon. This song got me through my own black days as i'm sure it did for many others, just a timeless song. Rest In Peace Chris
R.I.P Chris :(:(
THE MOST!......
...the most, captivating version, EVER.
R.I.P CHRIS

The authenticity of this is pure. The talent. Man. No one will sing like you. Or write like you, or play like you ever again. Okay I'm off to work. Peace out brothers and sisters and just be grateful for today. You don't know your fate tomorrow
