- Why pay for sodium-laden packets of instant gravy mix? Instant gravy mix is a convenience used in many recipes -- especially casseroles. I hate spending money on things I can make myself. Here's the recipe!
8 TBS minced dried onion
12 TBS flour
8 tsp bouillon powder (chicken or beef) (NOT cubes!)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
Mix ingredients in an airtight container like a mason jar.
Use: Mix 6 TBS + 1 cup warm liquid
Warm liquid can be water, milk, pan drippings, broth, etc
Yield of prepared mix = 1 cup gravy
Great recipe and Idea. I gotta try this
Happy to share the info!
u can also leave out the Bouillon (flavoring) and then u can use the 'base' for any kind of meat and then add the bouillon (chicken or beef, etc) at time u use it - 1 part flavor to 3 parts base.
Nice tip! Thank you for watching :)
Hi there please could you share a recipe for beef and onion gravy powder mix. Thanks
Hello! Happy New Year! Just use beef bouillon powder instead of chicken for beef gravy mix. If you want beef and onion, you can do half and half with beef bouillon and onion powder. Be sure to use onion powder, and not onion salt, however. Onion salt will be way too salty. In theory, you could probably use all onion powder to make just onion gravy powder mix, but I have not tested that as it's not a family preference. Thank you for hanging out with us!
I have never thought about doing that we use packet gravy alot when I'm too lazy to make it from scratch. Awesome idea
And those little pouches add up fast! Plus this way you can control the quality of the bouillon powder you buy and use as well. Thank you so much for watching!
Love that! Thank you for sharing 💕
You're more than welcome!

I love to use canning jars. You will flip when you see how many jars I have worked so hard to get over the years. I can’t wait to build our house so I can unpack and nest! Yep I am so ready. Jars have so many purposes
I totally agree! I always know it's almost harvest time again by how many empty jars I'm trying to cram onto my shelves...time to refill them at that point! lol.
Thank you I’m going to have to fry this.be safe and blessed

Translations 12 tablespoons same as 3/4 cup
8 tablespoons is 1/2 cup
8 teaspoons is 2 2/3 tablespoons
In these proportions I don’t think rounding it up to 3 tablespoons of bullion will be noticeable in the recipe recipe.
Yep, either way works! Thanks for the "translations" :)
Do you know how to make gravy in the microwave? Thanks & God bless 🙏
It's possible to make it, but time consuming. You'd make gravy the same way you would on a range, but you'd have to stop the microwave about every 30 seconds to stir the gravy with a whisk to avoid scalding or clumping of the flour.
@@CanterburyTrailsFarm thanks for your reply. I have done it and it turns out pretty good. Just wondered if you'd tried it. Take care 🙏
I did it years ago when my oven/range went out and the one we ordered was backordered...but I'm not a fan of the microwave for much more than warming things up so I haven't done it since. I'm happy it worked out for you! :)
Thank You.
