I own a 1965 Omega Seamaster Deville, found during a cleaning after my mom's passing. My Father said it was given to him by my mother to celebrate her pregnancy with me. It wasn't working, and it had no crystal. My father said, "If you can get it working, you can keep it." I had sent it off to Omega HQ right before the COVID lockdown. It took me some time to restore it to working condition, but it was worth the wait. Nothing like having a story behind your watch. Loving it, and it keeps exit time.

How much did it end up costing, if you don’t mind disclosing? Also what an awesome story. That sense of sentimentality is what drives us to buy/keep the lesser known watches

@@StandAloneState It was not as much as a new one, but it was expensive. I also purchased an alligator strap since, in CA, it is hard to find Exotic leather bands. Omega HG Service department informed me of the repair status and did an excellent job, it looks brand new.

I had a Seamaster 300 refurbed by Omega, about $700 and they returned to me a lot of little parts replaced. The watch looked brand new. Very happy with the outcome.

Got the previous generation of De Ville with the power reserve for my birthday last year and it's my first luxury watch and I love it. I find it so underrated and deserves so much more attention but also I want it to stay attainable. Either way, so happy that you talked about it, Teddy! Keep up the good work.

I am a huge Omega fan, now having purchased my second. (first is a Bond edition).
I'd decided to expand my collection a few weeks ago, and ended up getting a Constellation. Both the DeVille and Constellation re great watches. The 41mm fits by 7 1/4 wrist a little better and one I was looking at them closely first hand I went with the Constellation.
Maybe if I went on a different day I'd have got the DeVille Prestige. And what was also very, very cool was I could try on the watch I was going to buy and brought it home with me that day (that's a jab at Rolex).

    I, absolutely, LOVE Omega!
Obtained one of my grail watches in my Speedmaster! Still can't believe I own one.
But I would love a Seamaster Diver 300M (Blue Dial) and a 41mm Aqua Terra 150M Co-Axial Master Chronometer.
Certainly wouldn't mind owing a DeVille either.
One at a time, in time, they will be mine!

Hey Teddy, I absolutely love your watch reviews-you’re always showcasing some incredible timepieces! I have a suggestion that I think could add something special to your videos. How about including a short segment, maybe thirty seconds to a minute, where we can just listen to the mechanical sounds of the watches? Hearing the crown winding, the ticking of the movement, and the click of the pushers would be such a satisfying ASMR experience. I think it would really enhance the enjoyment of your reviews!

I really do like this watch. There are just so many things that look like it. Both with more or less history and for more or less money. It's also one of those watches where you really might consider grey market, as much as I hate to say it, since they're often available for around half of that retail price stated in the video new.

  • @Neil4Speed
    @Neil4Speed 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I had an interesting story with this watch, albeit the one generation prior. I happen to walk into authorized dealer and they were actually clearing out all of omegas at 50% off as they were not carrying the line any longer. Thinking this is the once in a lifetime opportunity (like the guy beside me who bought 13 tags), I quickly picked this up as one of the last pieces available. It was my first high-end Swiss watch. I remember bringing home and wearing around the house and then just taking a closer look, and comparing it against my Seiko presage, and it was at this point that it struck me the omega felt lower budget and the movement was noisier. I had an epiphany that day with this watch journey that what I was paying for was branding and not necessarily the product. No hate on those who buy omega, it's a good product but you pay a premium for the name.

In 1997 or so, I almost bought a brand new De Ville in gold on a strap for $2,500 at an AD, and back then it was a more manageable size (for my small wrists) of 34 or 36. I really liked it and was impressed by the affordability, but I had fairly recently bought a SS DJ and was much younger and couldn't justify the cost at the time.. Sigh.

I own the second generation De Ville Prestige with calibre 2500, co-axial Chronometer, same blue dial with the one in this video with vertical brush, rose gold plated hands and indices, navy blue leather strap. Love the watch. Attainable Omega for its price.
I mostly wear light blue or crisp white dress shirts at work, when I wear blue, I go with my blue dial De Ville, when I wear white, I go with my Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch sapphire.
Gonna add Seamaster 300M into my collection if they reduce the diameter and thickness just a little and a thinner less chunky bracelet 🙂

The De Ville line is often undeservedly overlooked. It was this line that Omega equipped first with co-axial movements. But I have to say that from my view Omega was much bolder with that line around 15 years ago thant it seems now. The Hour Vision which is seen at 1:00 on the right comes to mind but for me the most exciting one was the Chronoscope. Back then I fell in love with that watch but it was too expensive for the first purchase.
This year I finally purchased a pre owned but unworn Chronoscope with red dial and black subdials. The former owner bought it during a business trip in Japan. It's a model I never saw before on anyones wrist. Even the staff in my local Omega Boutique here in Hamburg haven't seen this model before. Its craftsmanship and details are even one step above the Planet Ocean Chronograph from the same era which I also own.

In general I'd just like to see more reviews of watches under 5K I understand it can be boring looking at ETA 2824s and Sellita SW200s but I like the thought of showing some of the entry level pieces from luxury brands and maybe some of the higher end offerings from some of the more attainable brands. There's a lot of competition in the 3k-5k market and I'd love more coverage of it.

It is interesting that this watch is the same price as GS SBGM221. It would be interesting to compare these entry models. Would you say that the Omega is superior in the movement, but GS would win on overall aesthetics and finishing? Would love to hear your thoughts comparing these two models.

However, what is up with the very short lugs that Omega has used in the his model and also the Tresor line; The lugs on the Tresor are beyond short and has left me conflicted, beautiful dial but the lugs are sort of a deal breaker. This Prestige model does have the shorter lugs but not as extreme as those on the Tresor, the dial on the prestige is one that harkens back to so many Omega models, it is a classic. Teddy,
Assuming that price is absolutely no object, which wrist watch mechanical calibre is the very best certified chronograph today ?
In theory the Rolex Chronergy delivers +/- 2 seconds per day but if you check Rolex forums then you’ll note that they did a survey and found that these calibres fell short of the claim… In fact many were not that reliable with amplitude then timekeeping issues. To date the issue has yet to be resolved by Rolex.

    • @AllTheHandlesTaken
      @AllTheHandlesTaken 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

If by best you mean most precise, and if using a quartz regulator on top of a mechanical movement doesn't bother you, probably a Grand Seiko with a Spring Drive. Some of them are coming in at around a half second a day stated and performing even better with little variance from the factory. If you don't mind self-regulating, the options open up considerably since you can get a lot of watches close to 0.0 and many will stay there for quite a while. I have a Ball Engineer that is still coming in at +0.3s/day and it hasn't been opened up in nearly two years. Zenith is known for having pretty accurate timekeeping out of the box and owners of the old Daytonas with El Primero calibers often swear by them still being better than the newer models after all this time.

I would like to see this tested.
    From Omega FaQ:
All current OMEGA watches are water resistant to the depth defined by the model specifications, provided that the components ensuring the water resistance are intact. This means that an OMEGA watch that is water resistant to 30 metres can be worn for swimming at depths of up to 30 metres underwater for extended periods without restriction.

Btw. Longines has a table in their watch manuals and they say as well 3bar have fun with it, swimming and snorkeling is fine.

When I got my omega, they give your your own master chronometer card that you can use to sign into omega site to see your specific watches test and how it performed. I do believe they will test the 30m resistance just as they did my 600m resistance on my PO

With the right amount of training you can pretty much build something very similar for 700ish dollars

It's sad that watches that look good cost over 1k+. amzwatch watches are REALLY well made, and it just shows how a brand name on a watch can make its price 10x higher. I understand that if you look under a microscope, you'll find the difference, but just how many of you really inspect a watch at that level when you see someone with a watch?

That date horribly located above the 6. So close, Omega. So close.

This one needs a new dial!

It's a pretty watch, but I disagree with Teddy that it is "classic." Nothing about that dial is classic. It's restrained, yes, but it is very much a 21st-century design. I can't think of a single old-school watch that has a dial like that.
