  • How to remove and replace the glove box door on a right hand drive (RHD) Skoda Octavia MKIII (2013 onwards).
    Note that I sold this car in early 2017 so my knowledge is limited. If you need assistance with any Skoda related issues please visit www.briskoda.n... where there is a lot of very useful info.

    Just bought an Octavia and had the devil's own job understanding the handbook instructions. This video saved me so much time and cut the cursing down to almost zero. Thanks for taking the time to produce this!

      Thanks for your kind comments. I blew the accessory fuse using a tyre pump when the car was a few months old and even the dealer struggled with the instructions. You just know this is going to happen at midnight in the pouring rain at the side of a motorway and it's bound to be the wipers or headlamp fuses that pop, so that's not the time to discover what a pig of a design this is!

    Did this this morning and I didn't even realise the glovebox should be dampened as whoever has worked on it in the past has not put the dampener bar back when they've finished - and I can understand why!
    Thanks for the video (and good to see you didn't cut it to show the difficulty you have doing it).

      Once you've done it 2 or 3 times it's quite easy. The hardest part is getting the damper back in place at the end.

    Thanks so much. Didn't realise until I saw this that what Skoda calls a "brake rod" is a DAMPER, and needs to be manually extended before replacing.

    Thank you, this is very helpful. The Skoda handbook is useless in describing how to do this. It would have been impossible without your help. I would add 2 things. A head torch and some blue tack. The latter is used to hold the soft close arm in place as you re-insert he glovebox. Otherwise is falls out of its housing requiring removal of the glovebox and starting again. I did that 3 times until I had the blutack idea. Once in place and the hinge clipped in you can then re engage the soft close arm and remove the blue tack.

    Thanks so much. (I am on my husband's account.) The rear wiper isn't working in the Skoda. Lots of rain & he is over 500km away in another state.
    I took off the side panel & scratched my head.
    Once it stops raining I am going to try. Don't have enough room under cover to open the door wide enough to fiddle about properly.....
    Bless you. ❤️🙏

    Hi Stuart,
    Thanks for the comments. Hard to hold that camera while wielding a screwdriver and torch :)
    Dash cam wiring is my next job. I've extended the live 12V from the fuse box to a pair of 12V sockets in the little cubby hole next to the driver's knee. From there I'll be running a USB cable up the right side door aperture (under the rubber seal if I can) and across under the edge of the roof lining to the mirror where the dash cam sits.
    I doubt I'll be able to film it though as it's going to be a lot of trial and error and 2 hands very full.
    Once that's done the other socket will feed the Satnav which is mounted on the centre air vents above the Infotainment unit. I could simple drop a USB cable to the USB port just in front of the gear stick but then I'll lose my traffic data. Jury's still out on how to do that one without wires showing everywhere!
    Good luck with yours. Nice cars and well built despite a few negative comments and minor niggles, but that's the internet for you.

    Thanks for video. Most helpful. Design remains the same for 2019 model - and seemed to me to be a little less fiddly to unclip/re-clip the damper than for 2014 model. Apart from making sure the damper is fully extended, you also need to watch out that the damper doesn't rotate and fall out of the key-hole shape that holds it into the side of the glove box otherwise you've got to pull out the glove box and start the re-attachment process again.

  • @jcilund
    @jcilund 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the video, it was very useful in opening the glove box on a 2018 Octavia. The shape might have changed, but it is possible to release and latch the damper without removing the side panel.
    To remove the box, I first released the box then the damper to open. When putting it back on, I got the box as close as possible to a half-opened position, latched the fully extended damper then pushed the glove box in... but it's fiddly ;)
    Good luck!

    good video.... but you dont need to remove the side panel or use any tools
    1/open the glovebox
    2/ Pull the box off the 2 bottom hinges
    3/ the damper will then be the right position to come out of the glovebox attachment.
    10 second job

    • @RichardOzanne
      @RichardOzanne  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was fiddly to do but not too hard. Trying to hold the camera made it a lot harder. The first time I did it I forgot to reconnect the damper so ended up doing it again, hence the video. The only thing I would say regarding using a dealer - if you need to change a headlamp/wiper fuse on a motorway at night and/or in the rain then (unless you have AA/RAC/GF etc cover) it's worth knowing how to do it.

      Honest answer is I don't know, but you should be able to see if you can get access if you drop the glovebox down. A good place for info on these cars is www.briskoda.net/forums/ Good luck with it. I hate it when trim starts to rattle.

    Great video Rick, helped me out a lot, you need a degree to understand the handbook.
    Also is the fuse for the cig lighter 20amp ?
    Could you also make some videos on changing brake light bulbs, taking the unit off seems awkward
    Thanks again

      @RichardOzanne  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Asif. Sorry but I sold the Octavia in January so no more videos of that car, and I can't remember the fuse rating. I think it was either 15 or 20 amp though (180 watts max would be 15 amps plus a little in reserve so 20 is probably about right), but please do check your handbook to be sure. Cheers Rick

    At 100 ( or whatever a main dealer, charges) quid an hour, takes how long for checking a fuse? About ten mins, so that's about 16 quid, rounded up to the hour, 100, to check a fuse!!!!! Replacement? That's 5, bill, Designed to not last and to make the maximum for vag group,

      you need to remove little covers, and use correct tool to reach inside and squeeze together two little bits of metal, which when pressed together release off the roof . I used thin nose pliers, but caused some damage to the metal clips. go to car breakers and practice first.
