These people witness things you guys probably won't ever witness in your lifetime. The things that was happening down here was horrific and mind blowing. Imagine dead bodies all around you floating in the water and bumping up against your legs. It's devastating!!
Yes it was horrific. I live in the suburbs right outside of New Orleans and our family didn’t evacuate either. In New Orleans they bury the dead above ground because they are below sea level but my city is above sea level so one can be buried underground. My city is right off lake pontchartrain. It’s called Slidell. You just cross a bridge and you’re in Nola but a lot of Slidell also went under water and that made the graves come up. We rode around after the hurricane was over and coffins were all over. Some open but most of them not but it was still very creepy to see.
@@chelseamiranda6651 I’m familiar with most of Slidell and that area too I used to run i-10 & 20 through both the top or bottom of LA to get to Texas. Regular rainfall creeps me out cause it’s flash flooding.
It is horrific but he said nothing about bodies bumping up against your legs…. Like what…. The water was so deep they wouldn’t be bumping your legs that was a stupid comment…. Like really stupid but anyways my prayers go out the people who experienced this
very sad, the way people were hurting and murdering each other, and losing hope, so glad this young man and his family got out, thats just horrific what he witnessed
i spent 4 days stuck in an attic then on top of a roof. we were rescued by people in boats and brought to the super dome. i then spent 5 days in the super dome. i’ll never forget the smell. he was right. i remember when they found 2 girls murdered in the walk in freezer. i remember not knowing if some people were dead or alive. i was 6 years old almost 7. the sound of silence and then finally hearing boat motors.
I was there at 14, i definitely remember it.. from August 29 til Sept 3, won’t ever forget it.. from staying home, hiding in the closet until going to the convention center and sleeping outside for days….
I hope things worked out after that. I'm surprised no one has written a book.about what really happened in the Dome during the hurricane. I've heard bits and pieces over the years. I live in the NorthEast Corridor, and I have to rely on what news comes my way. Most of the very negative stuff i did hear was that black people were being shot at and killed and then referred to as looters and troublemakers. This is what chaos brings.
The family jumping. The children being murdered. The babies dying from dehydration. Stories I don’t remember when this happened (I was a freshman in college), but are now breaking my heart. I just visited NOLA for the first time last week and saw the site where the levee broke and the community that still hasn't fully recovered. Startling and devastating.

Ren S Politicians and most people in general don't give a F#@% about disaster survivors it's a great money maker for them though. I dont think people realized the magnitude of the situation. Alot people that didnt leave either didnt have the means or resources to leave. Elderly, the sick. People did have the money. August is the hardest time. When the mayor is telling people to go to the super dome for shelter. You think the city had things under control. No they didnt. When the water came pouring in. It's the worst nightmare. People were scared, desperate. Our government failed everyone. Its was unnecessary and a cruel act of humanity to let people die and be trapped . The horrific nature if it all. I almost didnt make out before the storm. I almost want to the super dome. At the last minute on sunday by the grace of god was able to leave. Coming back home months later. It smelled terrible. It Had a dark foreboding feeling. You could feel and hear it. The cries and screams. Still after 18 years it wears its scars. A few reasons that after the storm became a living Hell was that people were barricaded in and not allowed to leave. Supposedly one of the reasons they weren't letting people leave is because there was a lot of crime that started to take place right after the storm passed. Was this true? YES! Did they keep the right people barricaded in? NO! The criminal people who were armed and trying to take advantage were not all gathered together in one place seeking help, they were solitary and armed and keeping their distance from police. When they had people trapped on that bridge dying from dehydration I thought I would die too. Eventually the national guard came and we were relocated to Lafayette Louisiana. We were literally dropped off at a PJ's coffee shop and the manager offered to help us. I still don't know what would have happened if she had not offered. I guess we would have just started walking? Not sure. It was crazy but obviously other people had it much worse. One of the scariest things was that when people approached you after the storm you could know for sure if they were friend or foe at first. But fortunately everyone we came in contact with was friendly but other people were actually mugged several times by different people. 😢
Katrina changed how these things are handled. The National Guard is on standby in the communities. There are better efforts to provide assistance with evacuation and they ship supplies near and power companies from surrounding states come in as well as paramedics. Katrina was a total failure and I fully believe that even a third world country could have done better. Laws were changed and procedures were reviewed and changed. Sadly things are headed back towards the way they were pre Katrina. They are using FEMA funding for everything other than what it is meant for and other than the policies regarding accepting pets during evacuation (as many people stayed because of their fur family) I see issues like Katrina and PR in our future. The Gov is creating so much debt and is so corrupt that when they are done we wont have the ability to handle a puddle
New Orleans East is not what it use to be like before Katrina. New Orleans East was safe but after Katrina it got dangerous just like any other areas in New Orleans.
Katrine was a man made thing. For those of you that didn’t know, New Orleans used to be called “chocolate city” because there was mainly us black folks there, basically was known as a black town. The government purposely destroyed the levees to get the black folks gone! Why do you think downtown of New Orleans didn’t flood as much? Because that’s where the white wealthy people stayed! When the black folks were trying to evacuate the police stood against them with guns & etc making them stay! They were held accountability and couldn’t do anything about it. The families suffered with no food water etc and was left to die.
They so much city got major black population like Houston in Houston we had the derecho in we had so much damage which our power was off but the mayor invite so many power companies from different city In state which our power came on which my came on on the 19th of may. Some last for week with out power even for the hurricane beryl only it wasn’t a big hurricane but the way centerpoint didn’t wasn’t prepared for that one we lost over 22 people from the heat but we’re I am at I had power after the hurricane. Matter what race in America everybody care about money that why so much American people don’t get help. But way New Orleans with this hurricane was so bad they way handle it was so sad imagine police not letting y’all leave pointing guns too let y’all stay was wrong. Imagine this shit was cat 4 are 5 it been even worser which Katrina was a 5 at first but weaken it when it hit New Orleans it was cat 3 but that shit was cat 5 in New Orleans that when been a lot worse
They did bomb the levees so as to not flood the wealthy white neighborhoods so on the news, the destruction you saw that was all African-American neighborhoods
I don't understand why they weren't letting people go. If the situation is not under control there, there's no reason to keep anyone stuck there as if it was. It's not like they were protecting them from a worse situation outside. Why not let those people leave and try to make their own way, instead of keeping them trapped in misery with no water, food, or sanitation?
Baby Doll you’re right. Our survival skills are non existent but what it takes is for people to really pull the community together and teach them what to do in a crisis and how to survive
NO idea, It’s like they wanted them to suffer. I absolutely despise the police in the situation they didn’t help, I wish nothing but healing for the people who remember.
Lil Wayne was actually doing shit idiot even made a song about George w bush even putting money helping New Orleans he was the def reason why New Orleans was getting help. Y’all talk about rapper but your own fucking government in president mayor don’t do shit but rapper actually do shit…
My buddy moved his family up to Arkansas during Katrina. They were idiots that were going to ride it out. Should have started walking when they issued the evacuation. These are not tornadoes.
They didn’t issue a mandatory evacuation until the storm was basically on top of us.. surrounding parishes didn’t issue a mandatory at all. We’ve rode out many storms in the past but the way this storm intensified basically in a day (tropical storm to a cat 5) , not sure why your friend tried moving during it but in his defense, since I stayed as well.. The average family here has enough supplies to get you through a couple days, a week tops but even the best preppers out there found out rather quickly flood waters gives 0 f*cks.. no one anticipated the outcome of this nor was anyone prepared for it and we damn sure weren’t ready for the apocalyptic events that took place during and after Katrina.
Im sorry... its sounds evil but if i storm is approaching an area. Criminals shouldnt be freed out to the open. they should be sent off privately and secured... shii was sad.
Never be dependent on the government, ever. That’s what caused most of these people’s issues. Also, this guy is dead wrong. The Coast Guard saved hundreds with helicopters.
Idk. I met and knew a lot of refugees that went through hurricane Katrina and they all collectively said the helicopters were not helping save them or other people
One documentary a guy said the coast guard repeatedly flew pass his building until he gatherd up some of the elderly whitefolks and put them on the roof then the helicopters came to rescue them.
Most people will be dependent on the government in massive disaster situations like this. The difference is that when you look like these people, the government doesn't show up for you. We've seen from other disasters that the US government is more than capable of showing up when the victims are of a different hue.
I think it's standard in disaster situations to restrict people's movement and try to prevent them from going into dangerous areas. The idea is that you keep people in a controlled area with resources, where they are safe. The problem is that the Super Dome was an absolute nightmare with no governance and no resources. It was worse than being outdoors.
People chose to stay. They had stayed before in most of the storms. The Dome was home. It was a shelter of refuge to those that couldn't or wouldn't leave. People started being dropped off by family members days before the storm. This was nothing new.
So he stayed when they were told to leave because the storm was coming. They chilled at the center, and then casually left in a car. Umm, why not just leave when they say leave?
I know this comment was 9 months ago but since no one answered I will. He was 14 years old when Katrina hit, I don’t think he had much say so. Plus the mayor didn’t call for a mandatory evacuation until it was basically upon us.. katrina went from a tropical storm to a cat 3 in 24 hours then a cat 5 the next day.. not to mention evacuating is expensive af, many hotels will price gouge and good luck finding one that isn’t at full capacity anywhere around you..we had less than 24 hours to leave and no one was trying to be stuck in their cars in traffic during a hurricane. Not to mention we legit rode out so many storms before this since forever ago…no one anticipated it to be as bad as it was. He wasn’t just “chilling” at some center they were trapped there for days with no food, no water people were dropping like flies, death all around.. stop being ignorant it’s not a good look..I stayed as well and the shit that went down during and after Katrina were things you’ve only seen in a movie about the end of the world.. and for many of us, it actually was. May they all rest in peace.
I was hooked, until he said the area looked staged. Um...that's how water flows. That why some areas were under water and some weren't. But I do feel for this guy. Katrina was not a fun time. Memories are ingrained in me.
I think he means the levee. they knew it wouldn't hold up to that type of storm but did nothing about it. living that far south and knowing what type of hurricanes we have, they could've replaced them years before. guess he feels because the area is predominantly black, they didn't give a shit.
Maybe that is what he meant. It was when he saw that some areas were flooded and others weren't that led me to believe that he didn't understand how water flowed. I'm from New Orleans too.
Emily D. oh okay. I live in Alabama. we didn't get any damage in my area but there was several people who moved here after the storm. New Orleans is great. love the people and culture

sorry can't spell. no person deserves to go through this..
the young men should havbe been told by hes parents that folks were evacuating
Praise Jesus, he is the one who was there for you.
This is so sad 😭😢😵😷
I was only 1 week old
I was here everything was f
Crazy how they left some people to die
I Jesus name I salute y'all god is so god
You are right
New Orleans East is almost abandoned now
New Orleans East is not what it use to be like before Katrina. New Orleans East was safe but after Katrina it got dangerous just like any other areas in New Orleans.
Cant fool me.i know before katrina you could still end up in the woods@Mookie504
Exactly facts!
Omg why would the family commit suicide.
They didn’t no help you get no help people would be depressed…
My husband is from here and he told me they bombed the levees
They did bomb the levees so as to not flood the wealthy white neighborhoods so on the news, the destruction you saw that was all African-American neighborhoods
Y they didn’t want ppl to leave? If they weren’t offering the needed assistance
I don't understand why they weren't letting people go. If the situation is not under control there, there's no reason to keep anyone stuck there as if it was. It's not like they were protecting them from a worse situation outside. Why not let those people leave and try to make their own way, instead of keeping them trapped in misery with no water, food, or sanitation?
our black community have lost our way we use to know to fish hunt for food make camp 🔥 now we rely on geocy stores for food
Exactly......and if we can dont know how to do those things then you cannot talk about no Revolt
Baby Doll you’re right. Our survival skills are non existent but what it takes is for people to really pull the community together and teach them what to do in a crisis and how to survive
Yup but we still survive
@@esheshsubs5162 we still survive.
reality of being poor
Everybody not rich
I hope the lord don’t punish you
this young man needs therapy
I bet he's a prepper now
Damn
A lot of us aint had no money to leave
well i mean its not like coast guard are supposed where u r, ps even if they did tough it takes time for them to get to your loation
THEY NEVER CAME -- EVEN AFTER 4 DAYS -- THEY NEVER CAME
but why where the police trapping them in 😢
NO idea, It’s like they wanted them to suffer. I absolutely despise the police in the situation they didn’t help, I wish nothing but healing for the people who remember.
I believe it was planned, but why???? Why was it planned?
the people that run America are beyond sick and want to wipe us out or totally enslave us.
No family jumped off the bridge man get out of hrrr
you were there ?
Look it up it was on the news
Wow
they didn't let out prisoners during Katrina
The Man is name Kenyon Dunbar
I think it was perfect personally done because they try to run black people out of New Orleans they bust that damn FRFR
where was weezy to help these people
he made multiple songs about it and actually did help. trust me, he cared and still does.
Lil Wayne was actually doing shit idiot even made a song about George w bush even putting money helping New Orleans he was the def reason why New Orleans was getting help. Y’all talk about rapper but your own fucking government in president mayor don’t do shit but rapper actually do shit…
Mane 80% of neworleans was under water
I will believe some one who was there over someone observing events on their TV screen..
@@esheshsubs5162 It would help if you wouldn't call Katrina Victims Refugees.
Most people will be dependent on the government in massive disaster situations like this. The difference is that when you look like these people, the government doesn't show up for you. We've seen from other disasters that the US government is more than capable of showing up when the victims are of a different hue.
Why wouldn’t they let people leave .. where they trying to kill them ?
I think it's standard in disaster situations to restrict people's movement and try to prevent them from going into dangerous areas. The idea is that you keep people in a controlled area with resources, where they are safe. The problem is that the Super Dome was an absolute nightmare with no governance and no resources. It was worse than being outdoors.
Jesus
Why would people stay when they told them to leave
some people cant leave like the poor
People chose to stay. They had stayed before in most of the storms. The Dome was home. It was a shelter of refuge to those that couldn't or wouldn't leave. People started being dropped off by family members days before the storm. This was nothing new.
it’s out home we didn’t kno it was gunna b dat bad yu hurd meh. We survived hurricanes b4 bt this shyt right chea was different

THOSE BASTARDS!!!
Emily D. I get what you're saying too. Were you there when it happened?
I was living there at the time, yes. I was 17 and I had evacuated with my family to Baton Rouge one or two days before the storm came.
Emily D. oh okay. I live in Alabama. we didn't get any damage in my area but there was several people who moved here after the storm. New Orleans is great. love the people and culture
