If your Apistos are new to spawning? Sometimes it takes a few spawns for them to get it right. They've got it made in that BIG 50 gallon tank. I think your doing really well. Just give it some more time. Another good food that breeders use to condition Apistos on prior to spawning is live daphnia. Good luck!
I have have the same experience. Most cichlids tend to do this. Especially the dwarf cichlids. They tend to eat the first few batches or not know how to protect them well yet. Eventually, they get it.

Feed well and maybe add a few more plants. Eventually, some will make it.

They may need some ambient light at night so the parents can fend off the other fish in the tank...especially if there is no cave to go to at night.
