- The Mazda Miata NB is a fantastic car to begin with - but what would it take to make it next level? With this being possibly the cleanest Miata build I've ever seen, it's main claim to fame is its K24 Honda engine swap out of an Acura TSX. This K24 revs to the moon, and with a small chassis the Mazda Miata MX-5 is one of the best tuner platforms ever created. So what makes the Honda swap so great? Let's talk about it.

The 2-3 shift is a huge struggle with the IRP + ZF combo. It's compounded with the K series too since the ZF doesn't like high RPM gear changes. I'm always missing the 2-3 on full rips

I was also overextended on the slave after the willwood master change. The TOB was actually sticking on the high shifts causing the shift into 3rd to basically be a neutral. Since fixed and I apologize for that.

As said before, sick build. NB Miatas are so slept on. It's the lack of popups that really turn people off.
Pop-ups aren't even that cool honestly. I mean I get it's all opinionated but other than being a child and flipping them around this front end looks much better
Ohh like the exact thing that David said in this video “The NB Miata isn’t overlooked like the NC is, but since the NA has pop-ups that’s the one everyone thinks of, I think people sleep on the NB it’s a fantastic car” -end quote. lol
And for some original opinions that’s I used my own brain to think up.. this is not why the NB’s are “slept on” soo they’re not. lol. The NA is just better in almost all the ways that matter to Miata people, they’re rawer, lighter, more “revvy?” (At least the 1.6) and it’s the OG. The pop ups are cool BECAUSE the Miata had them, not the other way around. Don’t get me wrong I love dope NB as much as the next guy but as they get newer they seem to lose(at least a little) what we all know that special “mechanical” magic of the old British/italian roadsters that the Miata was modeled after. The NB is fine they’re just different and ALOT MORE AUTOMATICS THAN THE NA. The NC is the same with even more autos, even heavier, way way bigger, just a little more numb than the NB before it. I haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing an ND but I have heard that Mazda addressed this pattern and it’s very similar or reminiscent of the NA that’s awesome I’d kill to have one but still it’s not the same. -rant over

I had a 01 nb Miata with a 5spd manual. What took it out and totalled it was from frame rails rust. That's what you got to watch out for that car. Fix it quickly. By the time I found it both from frame rails got so bad the engine subframe ripped off them.

I had an NB1 with far less mods but still loved every moment with it, only sold it to have a down payment on a house. I will be getting another one ASAP! Great video as always, cheers 🍻

@hhaste hard to actually say, but they def have a muffling effect. I do plan to get the exhaust done properly since the muffler I added didn't really do much and it's not up to my standards.
@@hhaste A turbo is a flow restriction in the exhaust. It is why cars like the Nissan GTR and Ferrari 488 Pista are not loud even when they are making over 700 hp, yet naturally aspirated cars like Lamborghini Huracans and Corvette C6 Z06s are notoriously very loud engines due to the lack of flow restriction in the exhaust. Interestingly, superchargers do not restrict exhaust whatsoever, so they allow cars to remain loud while adding power via forced induction. However, most 4 cylinder engines do not sound great, so adding a turbo helps out
And in that note, the cost of all NB Miatas went up about $4k

I have an 04 6sp tsx sedan. It's not cramped for me at 5'10" is smaller than full size sedans but at 34xxlbs not too heavy. It feels peppy for what it is.

I just got a k20 for my Nissan Pao last weekend. Its going to be a process to get it in the car, but it will definitely be worth it.

Hey this sounds like my straight-piped D16z6 sedan.
Obviously wayy faster but it has the same exhaust characteristics.
Ain't a better sound than downshifting a straight piped Honda. The *WHAP* you get is hnnnng so satisfying!

What i would really liked to see was a K swapped Miata done to OEM standards, without stupid vibrations and ear piercing noise. To make a race car is relatively easy but to make a road focused one is really hard. I don´t track my car and im not 18 anymore but i would really love to have my Miata with K power
So use high dollar swap kit parts, add a few vibrant resonators along and/or a varex adjustable exhaust, along with dynamatting various places to get it lexus quiet lol.
My favorite gen miata, if I was to get a miata this would be it!
I swapped in my MX-5 a VR6 without a turbo from a Golf 3 and the gearbox is still the standard one.
Engine i have fully rebuilt by my self with forged pistons and other camshafts and crankshaft.
The ecu is a ecumaster and all of that have aaround 245hp.
I don't turbo it because the mx5 is a fun ride with that and it's enough power for the car.
Yeah I make 235 on this setup and it's a great balance, but 450 just sounds cooler.
@hart-n-sol yep. Mines at 260 with a Garrett 2860, and it needs 300. I have to fix other problems first.

Had a K24 swapped NA and it was an amazing car. I now have a K24/K20 Frankenstein built motor in a Miata based Exocet and it is the most fun car I have ever driven.

Stock internally other than stage 4 Prayonto Racing cams with supporting valvetrain upgrades. 4P oil pump, 50 degree VTC. ATI fluid damper with the k power kit inclusions. Made 235 to the rear wheels. Planning to go turbo once the kits available.

It's got the kpower exhaust with resonator. Was a lot quieter with the muffler. After adding the V8R rear tubular subframe, the 3 inch rear section didn't clear. Added a straight through race muffler and went center exit however it might as well not even be there. I'm hoping the turbo solves the problem, otherwise it'll be getting re-done.

Basically a mini S2000, as the F/H/K series are all variations of the same platform. How awesome! Miss my H22A with bolt ons, cams and tuning. 9,000rpm was fantastic.

As an NB owner who has looked at every single one on the planet lol, this is a SICK CAR. Insane.. perfect. I am not done with the video, I love that he has the shift light, did you end up using it? like it? I'd love to see this car with a 3.9:1 + 6 speed.
It's a chevy 3.23 with the 5 speed. 2nd gear at 9k I'm at about 78mph but the goal is turbo so I feel like it's perfect. 6 speed would have been nice on the highway but this car gets towed anywhere over an hour 🤣

And you can get a smooth ride out of a k swapped Miata as long as you use rubber or silicone motor mounts... With a hydraulic torque stabilizer similar to its street bikes use on their steering to prevent speed wobble attached to the head of the motor to the side of the engine bay will prevent any and all torque flex and the car would still have a perfectly smooth comfortable daily drivable ride ...
i mean its not really a surprise but this super isnt comfortable for that lol. im sure what you said would probably work though

@NYHeeb leaks are mostly around the window seals and lexan as I choose to bolt the windows in instead of glue. When I added the wing I changed the hinges to quick release hardware so if I need to access the trunk space I just remove the hatch.

Stock internally but I did add cams and valve springs. Car made 235hp.
needs a 10th gen accord 2.0 t k swap. Those are cheap to boost to 400hp easily. Its basically the fk8 CTR engine with a smaller turbo and different oil pan. CTR turbo swaps and 1500 cc injectors easy 400. BIG NO FOR E85 as honda engines dont do well with it unless e85 proofed.
