    Simple job that most shops as I've found out earlier owning 3800 powered vehicles, act like its earth shatteringly hard. As I mentioned in comments I live in NY and they don't know how to "Fix" cars. The so called techs rely on looking at what year to our car is and if they see it's over 5 yrs old tell you to junk it and buy something that will be a brand new money pit. Great info.

    I would have cleaned the ignition control module with alcohol because it was pretty dirty the one you got in the junkyard and then put some thermal paste on it and then I eventually would have tried replacing the coil packs. They usually go. I could never understand why a lot of mechanics don't clean their area where their parts go in, it is very important. I've only found one good mechanic in my life that I only been about 2 years to him and then he went out during the pandemic. And he was the best and I'm almost 60 years old.

    I recommend some thermal paste between the control module to the heatsink. Doesn't matter the brand or anything. Without it you have a higher chance it'll over heat a fry itself in the nearish future.

    • @edsmith6504
      @edsmith6504 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      FYI everybody... thermal paste and di-electric grease are two entirely different things. I've even seen thermal tape (junk). You don't need to buy a big tube. Just some good sized spots will do just fine.

When the ICM on my old Lumina went, I ended up grabbing five of them and having to try three different ones, before I found one that was good. But then again, those were under the exhaust manifold, so I'm sure more of them fried from heat back then...

It bent the engine mounts so now the supercharger pulley is digging into my coolant overflow... coolant stays in there and everything but I cant imagine its efficent on my boost... have you heard of anyone relocating these two?
