Hi MoJo!! Just wanted to tell you I followed your entire hike. One thing I liked best about your videos is you filmed the trail and not just yourself. So many vloggers need to have their face constantly in the camera. I watch because I like to see what you are seeing and because it's a hike I'll probably never do. You did a great job of that. Don't get me wrong, I like the commentary too just not 100% of the time. So thank you for a great job bringing us along and congrats on the accomplishment!! Looking forward to your next one!!
Caught that…”next through hike” comment. Looking forward to that. Thanks for sharing the vlogging process. Bravo to your effort. Much appreciated. The vlog of your hike made my days. The equipment weight didn’t seem to bother you. I think if I vlogged I would have tripped and fell over the devious roots and rocks nature provides as a challenge to just walk. Wishing you peace and good fortune, and a mighty fine life. Happy Trails!
Gosh I never realized that there was so much involved in making the videos. 😮 You do an excellent job of filming and creating great videos. Happy Holidays to you and your family! 🦃 🎄 🤶 🛷 😊 🙏
This was so informative,I’m not sure if I will ever vlog but I enjoyed seeing what is involved. I followed you soon after you started. I liked the length of your vlogs and the limited talking while hiking. I did appreciate you having your breathing on the difficult climbs because you made them look effortless. I had no doubt that you are a perfectionist but you also go with the flow.
Hi Molly, I enjoyed this video a lot because I watched every day's video from southern VA on & believe it or not your daily installment of MoJo's Terrific Adventure came to be the first thing I watched when I settled down at the end of the day. I looked forward to seeing how your day had been. I live 10 mins from Harpers Ferry & hike on the Trail but could maybe had done a Thru-Hike when I was younger, but now I hike to enjoy the woods. I was always inspired by your positivity & work ethic, & I was blown away by your fitness. You seemed to take the climbs without a whole lot of trouble. The way you filmed looking ahead was valuable because I was able to see it as if I was hiking it, plus I know what the trail is like around here, but I got to see most of the Trail. I was thrilled for you as you finished & I was crying along with you as you summitted Katahdin. After your hike I joined a trail maintenance organization & I'm planning doing some days providing trail magic. So, I guess you just never know the what the effect can be on the people who witness you doing your thing with passion. I enjoyed the whole thing & was pulling for you. Enjoy your day, Molly!!
i never dreamed how much went into just one video, but I'm glad you document your hikes so we can come along, take care and as always looking forward to the next video
Great tutorial on how to prepare for and manage vlogging a thru-hike, thank you for taking the time to detail the steps and how you did it using your GoPro and iPhone. You did a great job capturing every day over the 6 months of your journey. It is a lot of work and I can see how it could get tedious when your body is so tired. For another video, I'd like to see how you setup your daily food items outside of your zero/in town days, what you made, what you purchased, what you found gave you the best energy, the tools you used to cook, what premade meals you purchased and liked/recommend, etc.
I know after hiking up and down mountains all day... the last thing you probably wanted to do is edit videos. I always appreciate you putting out videos though you must have been exhausted. Also, I like when the music kicks in when you did the 360' view on Katahdin and stand triumphantly on the sign. That part was REALLY good. 😊
😮 You started the AT on my birthday?! (March 19th) 😊 Excellent job on explaining your process, Molly. I don't vlog or aspire to, but this made every aspect completely understandable. 16:33
Did I hear “ Next thru Hike” mentioned?😃👣👣👣👣🌲🌲🌲Oh I can’t wait to see what epic journey you will embark upon. Stay safe this winter and Happy Holidays to you and your family. See you out there!!
Mojo, you rock! Thanks for making this video - I thru-hiked the AT in 2023 and I tried to vlog it, but I was very quickly bogged down in the editing and uploading processes. I really enjoyed your video series from the trail, but I always wondered how in the heck you were able to post so frequently. Thanks for sharing how you did it!!
What a great idea for a video! I learned so much because you explained the entire process so clearly. This video has also given me a greater appreciation for all the work you put in on the AT. Mighty fine explaining. Thanks so much .
Thanks for dragging us along the trail. Congratulations on making it all the way. One suggestion you forgot on your videos is that I loved that they were mostly only around10 minutes long. Perfect for those of us with short attention spans. I have watched a few hikers over the years, and I thought your content was perfect. Thanks again. And I loved the relive feature on the elevations that was great.
Thank you for your comprehensive guide on vlogging during a thru-hike. Many people discuss vlogging without providing the actual steps, which made me feel like through-hike vlogging was some secret fraternity. I appreciate you welcoming me into it. I really enjoyed your daily style, as it showed what the trail looked like each day. Thanks again to Molly Rose Outdoors, Kelly Hays Hike, and Hiking Dancer! You covered all three trails and provided that daily fix for a Wanda-be thru-hiker.
I've enjoyed your vlogs immensely and thank you so much for sharing your lessons learned and the detailed how to instructions. Thanks for allowing us to follow your AT through hike and post trek adventures. You have a great talent and I admire your sense of adventure. Keep moving forward.
I had no idea how much work went in to your videos. Thank you for all the work you did! It was a lot of fun following you on trail. Besides everything trail, one thing I learned from your videos is how kind the people along the trail were. Hostel owners, trail angels, fellow hikers and perfect strangers all just really great people❤
Molly! Girl you posted this at a perfect time I was just thinking yesterday I need some assistance with filming my hikes after a couple fails. 😂 thank you!! Hope you and your fam are having a great holiday!! ❤
Thank you for sharing this info. I'm considering an AT thru hike when I retire, which is 3 years from now. I really enjoyed watching your adventure. If I do it, I would like to vlog mine to be an encouragement to older people. I've done some section hiking out there and love it! I loved your positive attitude ❤❤❤
Bravo and Thanks. Very Helpful. Also - hilarious to hear you say "I'm a little bit of a perfectionist." I would loved to have heard your partner's reaction to that observation ... 😉🤣
Thanks for doing so much work to document your thru-hike! Your videos were very professional & I’m sure it took hours to edit each 10 min video. I thought the terrain model depicting your track at the end of each video was really awesome.
Can’t go wrong with advice from Kelly Hayes. She is a rock star on trail. Love your videos. Very informative. Did you end up writing in your journal the whole trip?
What setting do you film in? I use 4k/60fps and go through 2 batteries on a 5 mile hike (I try to show as much of the trail as I can). Of course, i only end up using 1/3 of what I record! Good info, just ordered the logbook.
So i went and looked up how much the watch was 300$ 🤯🤯🤯 and I know how much time you spend on makeing videos I make videos on capcut and it take me forever to make just a few minute videos. So I understand. But hey love your videos still and keep up the good work. Hope to see more of your videos you have a fan for life over here.
Hello Molly .... That is my sister's name by the way. Question ---- I am starting my through Hike this Coming February and I just decided a few days ago to change to a GO Pro myself for nearly all the reasons you just stated here. I appreciate your video that comes very timely for me. The question, your pack weighed in at about 30 ish pounds when you picked up your tag, did you have all this equipment with you then? Food also? Again, thanks for the informative video, I will be making good use of the shared information.
Hey! 👋 Yes, I had all of my filming equipment, about 4 days worth of food, and a liter of water in my pack when I weighted it at Amicalola. Even though I was just going up to the lodge and back, I wanted to have everything with me!
I get selecting a GoPro for better image stabilization but not for managing memory. If you can transfer videos to and from your GoPro to those SD cards, couldn’t you also push native iPhone shot videos to SD cards to manage space?
I’m not sure whether one of the reasons that you made these videos was to generate income. But if that were the case, I’m wondering how profitable it is. I suppose it is one of the very few options for making money while on a thru hike. Do you have a sense of what your hourly wage would workout to be if you took your TH-cam income and divided by the hours spent putting out content? Feel free not to answer this if you’d rather not share.

Agreed! I’ve watched a lot of thru hikers, and saw so many interesting parts of the trail through Molly’s videos that nobody else showed!

Wow. All the steps. All the work you did!! I appreciated it then, but now I REALLY do! You are amazing!
That was excellent.

hey Molly🤙 so, is Relive good for just hiking stuff or can you use it for any kind of travel/exploration? have you used it just to map your hikes?
