- Join me on a journey as I reflect on the bold decision I made two years ago to close the doors of my thriving business, Chad’s Custom Creations. In this video, I unveil the reasons behind my departure, sharing insights into the challenges and triumphs of running a maker business. From humble beginnings with homemade tools to a bustling enterprise, I navigated the complexities of entrepreneurship, eventually realizing that less is more. RM Laser also supplied me with their newest laser the RM J750, it is smaller than my main laser but yet I show off it's quite capable as I have come to call it the Compact Yet Mighty J750. I showcase my transition to a focused approach with Engravings 2 You, inspired by the simplicity of Chic-fil-a's success model. Through experiments with a new laser machine, I demonstrate how efficiency and quality drive my latest venture. Additionally, I delve into financial comparisons between my previous and current businesses, revealing surprising insights into profitability and operational costs. Despite the uncertainties, I embrace the journey, confident in the path I've chosen. So, join me as I share my story, lessons learned, and the excitement of new beginnings.

Avocado! Thank you for the inspiration! I'm just getting started. So many things and so much that I would want to do, this is a great lesson on streamlining. And I'm pretty sure you're close by as the Top Dawg is just down the street. :)
Kimmie the word streamlining is the perfect way to put what I did. Yes top dawg has quite a few locations now I believe the closest to me now is Augusta GA. Thank you for watching!
Hey I picked one random person that commented Avocado and you are it! I have something I'd like to send to you, comment me your email address so I can get in touch.
Hey there please respond by March 14th or I gotta send this avocado off to the next winner.
@@ChadsCustomCreations Oh, my word! I had no idea I had won! I just saw this! I didn't even see the notification!
@@CraftHappens awww so sorry I was hopeful I would get in touch with you but I will let you know that the package went to a couple in FL who have had some bad luck and this really could help them out big time.
AVOCADO! Chad, I don't care about anyone else... you're a true inspiration and encouragement to me. I appreciate you, man!
Sam I can and do say the same thing about you and your family. I am so glad this platform has connected us in the way it has!
Sam I really enjoy how you teach. There are a whole group of you guys (of course this includes lady's too i.e. "That Mom with a Laser" and others) . I had no idea before I started my laser busines that there was such a great community of helpful knowledgeable people. So thankful for all of you. Hope to join in, in teaching this fun and rewarding craft at sometime in the future. You guys put so much effort into making this entertaining/fun and still teach so much. Can't say this enough, Thanks for being there for others it's a well worth effort.
Sometimes the problem with most self-employed is they don't know how to trust others to do a good job. The solution sometimes isn't downsizing but employing skill. But your direction is completely relatable.
You’re not wrong, it is definitely an unwarranted fear of mine.
I have trouble finding people that know how to competently hook up positive and negative jump pack boosters to car batteries even when things are clearly marked and color coded. You'd be surprised the level of stupidity a lot of people possess. God forbid I make it any more complicated by telling them they're not supposed to keep the jump pack connected once the engine starts. It's like their whole mental shuts down. I'm amazed they got themselves dressed in the morning. If you have competent workers, keep them employed at all costs!
@@ChadsCustomCreations All of us. That's why we choose to be self-employed and utilize automation lol

Avocado! Thanks, Chad for the transparency and comraderie. You've been a big inspiration for me a couple of years now.
AVACADO!!! Excellent video and even better story Chad. Thanks for all the transparency, honesty and inspiration. Keep up the great work and wishing you nothing but even more success! Great job.
So kind of you to say that and love to hear it’s inspiring! Thank you for watching!
Avocado!!! I just found this video and loved the information. I just purchased a small diode laser and needed the inspiration to keep going. I know there's a big difference between the two types of lasers but its been a struggle. Im a disabled vet and would like to hear more from you about what works and what doesn't. Thanks again for putting the info out there.
Glad you found me, a diode is a great place to start and is although different fully cable of doing a lot of the things that I produce. Thank you for your support and watching my entire video.
AVOCADO! I stumbled onto this video somehow and as I watched it I realized I am in the same boat you used to be in Chad. I to have a small business and like Jonathan below states that employing skill is probably the way to go I to suffer from trusting people to run my operation and feel the need to get my hands in everything to make sure quality and customer satisfaction stays high. However, I too work to much and its majorly impacted my personal life and I have lost relationships and friends due to my work. I dont get to relax and I completely relate on the part of this video you mention how your mind cant get off of work when spending time with your family. I suffer from this big time and I to like you take on every job that comes our way. I put myself in stressful situations by doing this behavior. I respect your honestly in this video and its one of the most eye opening videos I have ever watched. It really opened my eyes and I bet a lot of other people who have watched this as well that overcomplicate their lives. A true inspiration and I thank you for the therapy! I have to go think now... lol thanks again!!
Can relate to all of this 100% you’ve got this, glad to hear this was eye opening wishing you the best! And thank you for watching.
Watching you video is like me looking in the mirror . 13 years i have had a small sign shop and never said NO to jobs . Alot of hours spent learning to do things that making money . Now i have desided to stick to things i know how to do well and fast . I seriously feel i have grown up and im wiser . Good video ! And very inspiring! Thanks Chad. I have had my Rmlaser 1390 for a month now and love it !! Really going after the hotels with your ideas !! ❤
The amount of work that goes into custom signs is very underestimated! Glad you and I are making some pivotal changes to better ourselves. The RM1390 looks like such a great machine I would love to have that laser bed size and power!
Can you tell me how you went about ordering and paying for your laser? I currently have a quote from Angela and they want bank transfer but how do I have any guarantees?
@@joemalone3218 hey Joe yes Bank transfer is a common way to pay RM laser I have known many people who have done it and though it is scary it does come with no credit card fee. You can go check out the comments on my laser video showing the RM960 and you will see some others talking about it.
@@joemalone3218 I have spoken ith Angela and she is very helpful and patient.. go for it.

Avacado! I've been seeing and hearing (that ILTMS patreon is worth it) for year, and I just realized I'm right down the road from you I'm GA! Been pouring through videos before buying my first laser and yours were super helpful man! Much appreciated! Riches are in the niches! If you can keep it simple and still make $$ it's even more powerful. Congrats and keep it up!
Hello neighbor glad to hear this was helpful for you. Thank you for watching til the end!
Avocado! Well Done Chad, I wish you only the Best going forward with your next venture and by seeing this video of yours you are already settled in. Thank you so much for sharing your journey, it truly is inspiring especially when trying to get a first time newly started business going and no-one believes in your abilities as a creator/ or maker. PS: You have a Beautiful Family, and all your recent decisions will benefit all of you and it's Great to see how things have turned out so far. Always stay the humble guy you started out in this business and never allow success to change you for you are an idle and mentor to so many people without even knowing it and we look up to. Can't wait to see what you do next!
Great words of knowledge and advice in this comment I truly appreciate it.
Avocado. Great lesson about having all those custom ordered products and being overwhelmed. I will share it with the students in my business class. From the outside, looking at all those amazing product pictures, most people would be envious. However, behind the scenes it was a different story. Thanks for putting this video together and sharing your experience.
Gavin what an honor to think this would be shared with a business class. Thank you so much for watching!
AVOCADO!!! Thanks Chad, incredibly transparent and honest look at many dimensions that people can learn from. Your work looks quite impressive, across all stages of your career too. Best wishes to you and your family. Thanks for sharing.
That is very insightful and kind of you to say, thank you for watching!
Avocado- it’s people like you that make this world a better place! Great video, awesome information and a perfect example of community over competition!
That is so kind and encouraging for you to comment that thank you!!!
AVACADO... I have a CNC and a laser and have been struggling for the last 2 years.... I now have clarity, Thank you sir
CNC and laser is a great pairing! You’ve got this I am glad this was helpful for you!
AVOCADO, You are the man that a lot of people would love to be. You stepped out from a secure job and took your chance and by all indications, it has paid off. Congratulations.
Thank you I am glad it worked out, but it wasn’t hard to leave that 5 year teacher Salary it’s amazing any teacher can live on that alone.
AVOCADO! Thank you for sharing a very insightful video. I appreciate the fact that your attention or focus is on community first, and then the bread and butter second. It shows how this form of thinking really works when we place our hearts in the right direction, whether we are business owners or not. That said, you’re inspirational for all who watch this video, and that in itself is a blessing. PS: I subscribe to your channel 🤗. Thank you.😎

AVOCADO! Chad.Thank You for being transparent with your business. You are my idol and inspiration for my future projects.
Roy I appreciate the kind words and am so happy to hear my videos are encouraging you.
Avocado, thanks for the honest video. Just starting out and trying to learn everything possible. This is my dream machine!
Welcome to the world of lasers thank you for watching the whole thing!
Avocado! I love this buddy. Thank you for being so open about this. And I mean zero offense at all when I say that it seems you’ve landed on a strategy with supporting tactics for that strategy that you could have started from day one since most “successful” brands tell their stories we can learn from and essentially come to the same conclusions over decades of experience. BUT, you needed to go through that journey for yourself and learned a ton a long the way I’m sure. And on that journey you’ve helped educate many of us as well. Super excited to see what happens for you moving forward. God bless you and your family brother.
Absolutely, and no offense taken at all. It is my journey and I am happy to share it. Thank you Alex!
@@ChadsCustomCreations thanks for getting where I was coming from. Doing one thing very well is always going to win over anything else. But you have to experiment to know what that “thing” is for you. And along the way it seems you found your “why” which most folks never get to. Priceless. Blessings mate.
Avocado! Thanks for sharing! You are a gem and a wonderful person for putting community over competition . Too few people in this world like you, A big hello from Australia! Wish you the very best!
Thank you so much, that means a lot to me especially coming from all the way over in Australia!
Avocado! I use alot of foamcore as custom packaging. A consignment shop I am in, and made their wooded logo for, just changed their name design and wants me to make the new one. Last was was a script, and new is block letters, allowing me to make each letter larger now also. Which foam did you use for the school letters? Just 4x8 sheets from Lowes/Home Depot? I think I would do the same for her new sign. Thanks!
Awesome sounds like a great job. Yes I used the pink foam from Home Depot.
Avocado! Loved watching your video and listening to your experiences. I started a small business selling t-shirts, and this year, I decided to invest in a laser engraver to offer more products. I purchased an xtool and so far loving it, but there's so much more I need to learn to make the business profitable. Keep up the great work!!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it, I think I need to do some more videos showing some business tips and tricks. Thank you for watching!
Avocado!! So happy for you Chad!! The fact that you can feel a little more relaxed I'm sure makes a huge difference, good on ya!
Thank you Ed I count myself very lucky and I am enjoying every minute of it.
Glad you found your specialized niche. Good job and thanks for sharing your experience!
Me too and thank you for watching!
Avocado, I was also making everything and also having lots of fun, I think I should follow in your footsteps. Thank you for showing me it can be done!!! Thank you!!
Lloyd it’s definitely fun but now I get to make stuff for myself and family and get the business done as fast as possible for more free time. I am lucky it’s working out for now.
Avacado! I love your story and your full disclosure of your business and decision-making. You made the right decision in prioritising your family as they grow up so fast. Keep up the good work, and I wish you many more years of success!
Thank you so much, I am in a lucky position and I hope I can continue to enjoy it the way I have been especially while these little ones are still little.
Avocado Bro! I've just closed my custom laser and cnc routing work two weeks ago and gone with the 80/20 rule (Pareto Principle) with one big client (looking for more with set bulk runs) and finally (finally) being able to develop my own product lines that I've been dreaming of for 8 years now. I really appreciate you putting this vid out. Appreciated. Here's to seeing how I go in the coming year or three!
That is awesome! Sounds so very similar to my situation also. Wishing you the best!
Avocado!! Great work and glad you focused on your family and prioritized that! Blessings
Thank you for watching til the End Adam. It’s people like you that have made all of this possible.
Avocado! This was refreshing to watch, I've been doing laser engraving as a side hustle and I enjoy it, I keep wanting to make more and more stuff but you're video has helped ground that :)
Glad it was insightful for you, thank you for watching!
Avocado! Thank you so much for sharing Chad, your work and dedication are amazing, and so is your generosity. I for one, would love to see how you do your QR codes, if you ever find the time to do it.
Francisco I would love to I am betting there are some insights I could share that would be quite helpful in furthering others business ventures.
Avocado!! - thank you for the video - we are learning the “too many products” issue - looking to figure out what we want as our core product and what custom work we want to accept. We have been doing the “sure we can do that” and often shorting ourselves on the value of our time. Keep up the content. Thank you🎉
It is all a learning experience, and a balancing act. Thank you for watching to the end!
Avocado!! Thanks for all the info. I am in the military and move around a lot, but I love to do custom projects for people. I definitely undervalue my time and quality of product. I'm looking to get into lazer engraving soon, and I appreciate all the info you are willing to share that others won't. I hope for continued success with your business and as a father of 3 myself, family time!!!
Thank you for your service both in the military and as a father of three!
AVOCADO, Great video Chad. I never thought of looking into bigger laser like your new one. thank you for the info.
Robert thank you for watching!
AVOCADO!! This was a really great video and was so relatable to the position I find myself in with my business. I think I bite off more than I can chew. Offering such a wide range, which seems like a great thing, also seems to often hold you back. I'm very much for the commuting over competition as well, I think people can often work together, not against each other, as the customer pool is large. 🎉
Thank you for watching til the end!!! Y’all are the best! I think there is a balancing act that we all must learn. I believe what we really must value the most is our time and where we spend that. Dude I love your branding!
AVOCADO! Fantastic video and edit, brother! That RM laser looks like a good value, too. Loved seeing all of the creative products. Keep enjoying that family. Well deserved.
Thank you so much I had a lot of fun with this edit, glad you enjoy it. It even retained you all the way to the avocado thank you for watching!!!
Avocados are inspirational- Oh no-that's you! this vid certainly shows people that whatever you create there are customers waiting for you
That is extremely nice of you to say that thank you!!!
Avocado. Nice job...and yes the pond is huge. Cost is also running time/labor, etc.
Tim you are absolutely right! Thank you for watching til the end you all are the true MVPs!
One thing for everyone to keep in mind is the true startup cost. Having had the other business you already had a workshop, tools, supplies, customers, etc. When you just start out you have none of that. Please set your sights much lower than Chads earnings. Just some food for thought. Thank you for sharing your journey also Chad!
Yes Roy you are right, the insights I shared on CCC was after 10 years of building up an arsenal of woodworking tools. Thank you for watching!
Avocado! WOW..I came across your video by mistake but I'm glad I did. Following you as you are inspirational and I cant wait to get home to start using my laser to create new product. Thank You
So happy to hear we found each other. Thank you for joining along!
Avacado! It is always interesting hearing from entrepreneurs, it is an adventure and hard work, it is freedom. What you shared is the most important lesson of all, be prepared to adjust and start all over! Good work! Have a happy life.
Thank you Anita your words mean more to me than I can express.
Avocado Thank you for the information and inspiration. You have no idea how much you've helped.
I am so happy to hear that!
Avocado! Thanks for this, yes I would love to see your process. Your approach makes so much sense in my situation.
You got it I’ve been collecting footage to show the whole process hopefully I’ll put it all together at some point.
@@ChadsCustomCreations That would be ace :-)
Taking the random odd jobs the big production ones!!!! YES YES YES the ones that money can be made on, that are worth doing, and the customer understands the work ( willing to pay for ) and number one mentally satisfying when complete. Good for you and you real customes!!!!!!
It’s the best way to go about it I have found.
Avocado, this was such a fun video to get through especially for someone who is wanting to get a laser. Thanks for being very transparent.
Jon, thank you for watching. It is my pleasure I hope this help anyone out there in someway.
AVOCADO! Thanks for sharing all of this. Been looking into pivoting into this type of business myself. Wish you all the success in the world Chad.
Thank you! You too!
Unreal bro, love this video and what you have done. Really amazing. I bought a Roland VG3 -540 printer it cost me over 20k but I am thinking maybe I should have went down the route of a laser cutter. Really amazing bro.
Glad you liked it. That sounds like a powerful printer! I am betting they might pair well with a laser cutter.
Yea its a great printer, I am really thinking about buying a laser cutter but not sure if I get and xtool s1 or go for the RM750. I am kind stuck for space. but for real bro your story is an inspiration. @@ChadsCustomCreations
AVOCADO!!! Dude awesome video, I am retired now and just want to start something I never got to do, served for 28 years in the Army and a school teacher for 25. but you made a great point about the type of business. Do little but Great! Anyway enjoy the family Sir

Avocados to you... great job! I love that you break your price point in the products you make and share its hard to determine how much to charge on hand made products you don't want to over price but you cant underprice also im glad you found your level of confort and yes enjoy your family because kids grow up quick hug them love them.

AVOCADO !!!! Dude you inspire me to step up my game ... Kinda getting lost in making way too many items. Instead of focussing on less items but selling more... great video thanks
Glad to hear it, I think we all fall into that no shame in it as it does make you a well rounded maker.
Avocado!! Most excellent, well done and love your philosophy as well. Also your attitude!!!
Robert thank you for the encouragement and watching til the end!
Just curious... Are subtracting the cost of materials for all the different project? Like the first one. What would the wood cost be if you didnt have family helping out and getting your own trees?
Avocado. Inspirational my brother. I am right now where you were with CCC and 17 hour days are wearing me out. I needed to see this as I redo my biz plan. Wish me luck and keep up the good, quality work!

What a good video to show how much you can do with a medium powered co2 laser. I love it.
Glad you enjoyed it
Chad i would love to see your process for these. I really appreciate this video . Im in the same boat. I started my biz and shut it down a year later. I was struggling a bit since I offered too much. Now I'm re-opening and slimming down what I do as well. I appreciate you sharing.
Sorry.... Avocado!
Thank you for watching til the end. I have been compiling footage for a process video hopefully I can out something together eventually.
Avocado, dude! I've been thinking about getting into lasers for several years now. I've done custom, high-end woodwork off and on as a sideline from my day job as an engineer, but since I'm not a fast builder, it's not something I could make a living at. Just turned 60, and I'm thinking it's now or never! Your videos give a realistic picture of the lasering business, I believe, so I'm following!
I say do it Kevin I believe you’ll have no trouble figuring it out.
Avocado!! Great video. You’re a wealth of information and I appreciate your willingness to share.
My pleasure, I think I may secretly miss being an educator still and this is a good outlet for me to feel like a teacher again. Thank you for watching!
AVOCADO on toast is one of my favorite snacks!!!! I also enjoyed hearing your story and would love to figure out a way to get me a laser like yours for my side business that deals in Bespoke Leather Work and Gifts. Who knows maybe I too could leave my job like you did for a new adventure.
Same here I go over the top sliced avocado on toast, sliced hard boiled egg, salt, pepper, everything bagel seasoning, and drizzled with sriracha 🤤
These are amazing on leather I believe you will get one and master it Biggsie!
AVOCATO! I do the same thing with the key word which lets us know if someone truly watched and/or listened. I loved your transparency on this as I just learned about you and your ventures today making today DAY 1. I'm barely a creator as I mix music on Twitch and some on TH-cam, but it's something. Besides that I have and still learning to build lithium battery packs and repairing just about anything electrical. I like to say I am a Jack of most trades and a Master of some. And being that I am about to turn 50 later this year I know I'm behind the ball and need to do as you did and select a niche and double down on it. They say that the only thing a person can count on is change, so your decision to laser focus on engraving is just as good as choosing to sell band saw replacement blades. What matters is the effort you put into whatever it is you decide to go. I know a failure is just one more step to reach success and I rarely give up on anything I choose to do, just ask my soulmate. My name is Danny and I am a well rounded, multitalented multiskilled American like you. And just wanna send you a good ole AttaBoy!! Man, it's the saying, I dont mean anything by that.... But you've really simplified your entire life and hope you use the new found free time wisely! Thanks, God Bless. Danny
Glad to have you here Danny thank you for watching!
Avocado! Just ran across your channel a few days ago and I'm enjoying your content very much! I'm looking to purchase my first laser cutter and engraver within the next 60 to 90 days, so I have quite a bit of information to pour over.
Currently I'm leaning pretty hard toward XTool (either the P2 or S1) but your presentation of the information in this video has intrigued me enough to at least consider the RM-J750. I really need something with a beginner in mind that will let me hit the ground running within the first 5 to 7 Days of ownership.
Again, thanks for your videos and any personal advice on your end would be appreciated.
Glad to hear you found me. I really don’t like telling people what they should buy but for a first time laser owner I would push them towards the S1 as with the diode lasers like the S1 you don’t have to worry about and cleaning adjusting mirrors, worrying about coolent temperatures and all of that come along with the Co2 lasers. IE the P2 or the J750. The trade off is not being able to cut clear and some colored acrylics so keep that in mind. But the S1 also comes at a much lower price which will lower your risk of entry into the laser world. If the business grows and things speed up eventually you may want to consider adding a Co2 laser to the business as a tax write off of course 😉
Also promo code CHAD10 should save you money at Xtool if you do go that route.
AVOCADO...I'm a screen printer and we do a lot of custom tees. I've been thinking about trying something new and your video has been a great insight as to what I might expect from adding laser engraving. Thanks.
David thank you for watching! I am glad your here I am actually putting together a little video using screen printing and I have lots to learn, I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts in the future.
Avocado! You are the man, thanks for all helpful videos!
Will thank you for watching!
Avocado! I appreciate you sharing the details of your story and why you decided to change. Do you have any time comparisons from your first etsy shop til now?
Would you say that narrowing your focus down to just a few things has dramatically reduced the time spent on these projects?
Pretty crazy to think you managed all those different product lines and you are almost at that same dollar amount already.
Laser engraving is very competitive where I live with quite a few people doing this full time, but the market is very large if you cast out a wider net outside your area.
I would definitely say drastically less time. Before I would have to work late into the nights sometimes. Now I can get my orders for the day done most the time before lunch.
AVACADO!!!! I recently picked up an Omtech Polar for the purpose to making a side business. I personally found this video helpful as I think I will embrace the one item done well instead of many. Thanks for the video and inspiration.
Glad it helped!
Avocado, thank you for sharing. I appreciate the honest feedback and observations you make of your business. I can tell you will be successful at anything you pursue. One thing i wish you mentioned was time. You mentioned more family time, but how much? If you keep your income the same but double your free time, that might be more valuable than doubling your income!
I ran a home improvement business where I would take on any job, "we don't do yard work and we don't pick colors". I eventually ended up taking a day-job in engineering for the consistent income and I could always just cut my time off at 40 hours every week, but I still do side work that adds another 50% to my yearly take home, and have been looking at something that interests me that would be a hobby and income like CNC, prototyping, signmaking/laser engraving.
My pleasure thank you for watching and thank you for the encouraging words!
Avocado. A friend and I are starting a fabrication business and are using a diode laser. This video was super helpful as we are basically your first company. Now we are talking about one thing we can do super well that can truly make our business
Ron thank you for watching and hearing my story. It’s a process I couldn’t haven’t gotten here without taking those steps in the first place but I do wish sometimes my eyes were opened a little sooner. Wishing you and your friend the best success!
Avocado Chad! Cheers! For sharing your experience with us. This is something most people will never do.
Thank you Clint I am a lucky man and am enjoying as much as I can!
Hei, i have the j750, but could not get the camera working with my win7 laptop, i tested the camera via webcamtest in the internet it works. It just does not work with my laptop, did you get it to work? Thanks in advance!
Hmm it should be working try doing a TH-cam search for how to set up camera in lightburn and see if maybe you missed a step.
AvoCAdO! Hey it's the first content I check from you, really nice breakdown and story, from where you come from to now. I'm currently in the 3D printing area, wish to add some cnc milling and laser engraving to expand my products. I will definitely watch more of your content. Cheers and wish you prosperity :)
I am lucky to have you here thank you for watching and checking out my other stuff. Wishing you all the success with your business ventures.

Welcome to the channel I hope you decide to stick around. And thank you for watching all the way to the end!!!

I am so happy to hear it. It’s a manufacturer we can trust which brings about such a great value at an affordable price. I can’t wait to hear the stories of how their machines help changed others life’s.
AVOCADO! Really, a lot of things to consider... With young children, time is something that doesn't really come back. Congratulations on your courage and for telling us your story! Hugs from Brazil!
You get it and I am glad I am realizing it while my children are still young.
Avocado. This was a very inspiring video Chat. I’ve learned a lot from your video as well as making me think about my own business moving forward. Thank you very much and I wish you and your family the best.
I am so honored to hear that thank you for saying that and watching!
AVOCADO!! Hello from France! Thanks Chad for the nice explicative video! I'm really in the thinking of buying a laser engraver since a few months and start some small projects for maybe one day being able to sell them ! You are inspirationnal like Samcraft is on his channel too! Keep up the good work and the nice vids!
Bonjour Angele, your encouragement is very much appreciated. I love following @samcraft also his videos and his love for his family is infectious. Merci beaucoup!
Avocado I am actually looking for a new business venture and I was wondering if you had any thoughts on me buying a new machine or a used machine to start off with and also do I need to have a good computer?
I think best place to start is with what you can afford if it doesn’t workout maybe check out the S1 by Xtool if you need or the D1 is even more affordable if the business takes off come grab a RM laser for speed.
AVOCADO!! I'm in year 2 of trying to start my engraving business. Thank you for the information and inspiration!
Juan it is my pleasure thank you for watching til the end!
Avocado...I really appreciate your thorough enlightenment regarding the Laser business. Proud of you!
Thank you for watching the whole thing. Wouldn’t be possible without people like you!
Hey I’m in the same spot as you but my girls growing up every day, congrats and thank you for this video really helps a lot
Robert they grow up so dang fast. It’s a balance but I am definitely trying to invest in being their father while they still think I am cool 😂
Avocado! Keep going. I have a small diode laser and I do all word of mouth. I mostly to wood flags and I need something that can handle up to 36 inches. Diodes have worked for me because I can put it on top of my product and move to to the locations that I need. Looking to upgrade someday but for now this works. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming. Thank you.
That sounds like a great gig Tod! I am a huge fan of the diode laser I think they will soon be top dog in the laser world. I just put out a video with the 70w diode and how it can cut metals it’s pretty crazy.
Avocado!!!....Well done..truly. it's a very inspiring tale...I will try to do my own steam and see what happens. It's hard work ofcourse but it's worth it. Take care.
Avocado! Family is everything, and kids grow fast. You said the most important thing. Just being there doesn't matter if your mind is elsewhere. Memories feel like a dream when you are that busy. I recently stepped back from the chaos of success too. No regrets. I can always go back when my kids are grown. ❤
Jennifer I couldn’t have said it any better! You are absolutely right! Thank you for watching and joining in on the conversation.
AVOCADO! Love the honesty. Great video. And I appreciate you sharing your experiences.
My pleasure I think secretly I miss teaching and this seems to be a great outlet for me to share again. Thanks for watching til the end!
AVOCADO. Great story, family first, we can't be all things to all customers. I learned a lesson, thanks for sharing.
You are so right! Thank you for watching!
Avocado!!! My wife and I start our CRE8TIV3 business less than a year ago and we too are trying to avoid doing too many things and turning down one off customer requests which become time consuming. Thanks for the video.
José It’s hard to turn them down but sometimes it what’s best for both parties.
Thank you for watching til the end!
AvOcAdO! We love watching everyone of your videos. Your innovative creations, along with your inspirational mind makes you a cut above the rest.
The same goes for all of you! Thank you for milling up all of that lumber I brought you all. You guys rock!
Avacado!!!! This was a great video. I’ve struggled finding the product and have done the same thing of everything for everyone
Darrin thank you for watching! There is no shame in doing lots of products I have no regrets in the past as it has made me a very well rounded maker and if I hadn’t I wouldn’t have stumbled onto the QR code product. Wishing you the best in your journey!
AVOCADO!! Excellent video and thank you for sharing and wonderful story on how you got back your time!

Avocado...Great to hear Chad...also great to get a glimpse of you at Maker Camp. Be Well
Nick great to hear from you too and see you at Maker Camp again last year. Wish we had stopped by your booth the kids would have loved to have met you and have seen the process of pen turning. Thank you for watching til the end, without people like you none of this would be possible.
Guacamole! -the most important FOOD GROUP created from the avocado! Great information. Thanks for the transparency in your business evolution. Looking forward to more updates. SM - Alpharetta GA
The internet said the avocado is good for my cholesterol so I have been enjoying it as much as I can 😂 the response from this video has been so great I can’t wait to do more updates.
AVOCADO! A great video and story mate. Well done, you've whet my appetite in laser work.
Glad to hear it! Thank you for watching and can’t wait to hear about your upcoming laser work.
Avocado! Great video. I’m trying to get something like this started. I was thinking more of the name it, I’ll make it. But your single product format might be an easier start. Thanks!
Either business model could potentially work just make sure you get paid for your hard work if you are doing the custom stuff.
Avocado, Excellent videos, I am just starting out with my newly purchased creality Falcon2 Pro 22w laser engraver it's been a mine field so far finding products that could be profitable, I would love any suggestions (I'm in the uk) but I would also love to know how you make these QR codes awesome niche btw
Thank you for watching. Finding a niche will definitely be a tough one but testing the waters and learning along the way is a great way to grow. I can make the QR codes directly in lightburn under the tools tab.
Avocado: Love your business model... competition does make a product better and nurtures growth. I love seeing someone ask how you do that and then watch their creative twists and turns render their own design success and failures (we all can learn from ; ). I used to run an Airbrush business in college, which solely ran on word of mouth. Pricing my art was the worst. I mean, recognizing a talent you've been blessed with and creating something with your hands is such a passionate journey that left me struggling to set prices.. lol, anyone else? Now, I'm nearing retirement, so I'm looking at starting a business utilizing a mopa fiber laser engraver. Came across your video and really enjoyed your content, but more endearing is your values and character. Names Anthony, see ya around, and thank you for sharing your journey.
Anthony I feel I am lucky to have met you. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave a thoughtful comment I hope you stick around!
Hi, what lacquer do you use. Can i use lacwuer can is used to paint cars?. Thanks
Started out using the clear satin minwax spray cans but when started doing bigger productions I started to buy gallon cans from klingspore woodworking I buy the Mohawk clear satin and put those into the homeright pro sprayer.
Car lacquer would probably wood too I would guess.
Great video! Time with your children especially while they’re little is priceless. 👍👍
You got that right!
Avocado! Thank you for sharing your experience. You are inspiring. Please share your process of creating and selling your QR code product. I don't have a laser yet. Would a diode laser work to start?
Great, yes where diode lasers are at now I think they are a perfect place to start and can actually produce better looking engravings. The 20w S1 would be a great starter www.xtool.com/products/xtool-s1-laser-cutter?ref=Chadscustom&variant=44132012196079
