- The oldest Grand Strategy game ever? Let's take a look at Risk, the game which I'm sure has caused many friendships to be lost over the years. It's had many PC releases....many of them not so great but let's see how this edition holds up!

You know, war isnt just about constantly striking. It may be scary at first but if you strech your troops to thin or concentrate them only in one area then you will end like Germany...

He left the ramping setting on, there are 3 different modes. Also Expert AI is turtle, it's funny when they get to several hundred troops in a tile from 3-8 a turn.

Risk Factions was actually really good. It had normal or every faction having a special ability. Some custom maps, special victory points to hold, it was great.
Supremacy 1914 next time, to keeping the theme of bad maps game
I played a version with forts and tactic cards and generals. It was awesome. It had the basic board or upgraded boards with different time periods. I lost the game years ago but remember it well.

As someone who loves riskgames and tried a lot over the years: Try warzone. It's a bit different, they got the dice out and every player plans their turns and goes simultanously. In my oppinion it makes the games a lot fairer and more strategic. And the maps can be very, very huge, which i like a lot.
This was actually very enyoyable to watch! I d love to see another round
I would recommend Risk 2 instead of the one your playing as is a much better experience all round.

Risk Factions is so much fun with a party
Diplomacy (the board game) was from 1954 - which is three years older than Risk, and there was a PC version from Paradox in 2005, though the reviews were terrible and it isn't on Steam - and Paradox have managed to do a good job of hiding its existence. There are online versions of the board game with no AI www.playdiplomacy.com/games.php (though I doubt that would make a good video).
You should have played warzone, it is almost the same as risk but on your browser and it is much better than most of the other risk games on steam ect. You can also play on other custom maps and senarios set up by people, such as a just a large map of europe of a senario of WW2...

While Risk is an iconic strategy game, perhaps the first one was Little Wars, a board game made months before WW1
I love that youtube vid where guys representing countries play Risk
if you think this game destroys friendships, you should play Diplomacy (which came out 3 years earlier, but im not sure it counts as a grand strategy)
This kind of risk Is a lot different and a little more confusing than the Playstore/mobile version

You should try playing Axis and Allies with some other peeps from the Yogscast on Tabletop simulator
If it's grand strategy you want the oldest one would be go. The playing area and possible moves dwarf the options you have in risk and it doesn't rely on dice rolls for you to do well.

Dude. I had this exact version of risk. I remember I would just hold one continent, build up 999 troops and just destroy everyone. God this brings back memories.
