@@AlanahStreams PLEASE!! That would be incredible! Also… my rebuttal for Astro would have been, “would the game be just as enjoyable without the DualSense controller?” Like was Astro REALLY that good?? OR was it mainly the DualSense that made the experience worth it?
The big takeaway from this was that Game of the Year is truly subjective. Which should be obvious to most people anyways. Loved seeing so many different picks, and how passionate most were for their games. That's what really matters. Whatever game you personally enjoyed the most is completely valid. It doesn't matter what an award show or website/channel decides. Those are just suggestions to try if you haven't. Plus everyone can't play every game, and every game can't be made for everyone to enjoy. So play what you want, be happy when someone else finds a game they really love, and don't be afraid to suggest games you enjoyed to others.
This was a really fun and cool idea. I wasn't able to play most of the games on the list this year, and was really great to hear about what makes these games so good. I want to play all of them even more than I did before now! Also a great way to highlight that there is no single game of the year. Everyone's is different, or even the same but for different reason, and that's effin great!
Mechabellum is my GOTY. Its fun, super addictive and feels like playing an oldschool RTS without all the clicking. Its perfect for ageing gamers that just wants to chill and still scratch that competitive itch. I cannot recommend it enough. The games I win feel great and the games I lose I always learn something from. The many small decisions really matter and you always feel like unlocking new knowledge about the game. It also constantly gets new cool updates with balance tweaks, new units and concepts etc. Its such a steal for the price.
lmao, Greg is hilarious, but yeah, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is game of the year. Can't believe it barely got any love at the game awards, I personally think it's just, all around, on another level as far as games go this year.
@ that’s dope! glad it’s getting that recognition, just feel like it’s the total package as far as games go this year. feel like it not being on PC hurt it a bit, but Astro Bot isn’t either so idk.

3 hrs in this argument for ff7 rebirth i love. I thought the whole time “how is this game made and real”. The side content and open world is optional. I skipped most of it. Amazing masterpiece
As a jrpg fan, my mans did a terrible job talking about metaphor and i havent gotten around to it yet. I think the problem with these games is that so many people get hung up on story and narritive and they forget to talk about the other half of the game. Gameplay and combat in particular. Yeah, its turn based, but are there any mechanics in the game? What makes it different from the rest? He didnt talk about any of that. I think alanah and andy was trying to get him to speak about those things, too and he didnt bite. I hear the passion, but man you gotta do better than that. I am a meat head. I dont play for story 😅. I hate greg 😂. Had me cracking up. Great video. Stay blessed. Sorry for the essay

I’m sold on investing in the Yakuza. I’m gonna need that episode from Alanah breaking down what’s the real entry point bc to Adam’s point there’s no chance I can play all of these 🤣
I do agree with Andy with Wukong is 10/10 except the combat did not feel good for me and is not about variety or being simple is about feeling, that on games like Sifu or Stellar blade the feeling of the hits so many issues with hit boxes but besides that and invisible walls is amazing
I'm also glad somebody here has DA The Veilguard as their game of the year. While I'm not done with it yet, and it's not my personal GoTY, I'm having an amazing time with it. It's my first full DA game outside of about 20 or so hours of Inquisition which could be why seeing as how I have no history with the franchise but the hate for the game has me so confused at times. Outside of a few cringy dialogue sequences and questionable story beats, I'm loving it, the story is entertaining and I love the cast of characters. The combat is easily my favorite thing, decided to go Warrior on my first play through and it's just a blast, can't wait to try Rouge and Mage. Outside of combat I love how my Rook feels like the main character of the game and not just a character I created, Bioware did a great job at making your character feel like the main character for sure. Overall a great game, and the hate is wild in my opinion. Can't wait to finish it.
Andy's right, Metaphor is ugly as fuck. when i first played, i turned it off after an hour because it hurt my eyes. Insane aliasing issues, super noisy shaders, over abundance of magla particles everywhere etc. My girlfriend came into the room once and immediately said it was giving her a headache to look at. I pushed through it in the end and got used to it, but it's rough as hell. its skates by on art direction just on characters and UI flare
Astro Bot is one of the best platform jumping games, but I really disagree with TGA's approach to balancing between media and players. The media clearly tends to favor creative works from major game companies rather than the gameplay itself. According to many media standards, there are a lot of independent games each year that are better choices for awards, but the media often chooses to ignore these games.
49:41 andy with the best take right there, elden ring shoulda took best art direction, metaphor is not it. If rebirth was on there, woulda picked that over everything else.
I'm really with Andy on that one, Metaphor is UGLY. The description of art direction includes animations and I'm sorry but besides the anime scenes which are few and far between, the animation work is just not up there with Rebirth whatsoever. Certainly not up there with From. People get wowed by the UI, but the best part of the art for me is the character portraits. The in-game models are just so middling.
@@HastyElderHaman it's funny cause when you're reading the unvoiced dialogues your eyes are always focused on the character face portraits at the bottom vs the in game models which look janky af.

The invisible walls you complained about in Wukong in terms of level design are only in Chapter 1, which is mostly linear. They largely disappear in chapter 2, are gone by chapters 3-5, and chapter 6 is semi-open world. The level design changes from each chapter.
