Revisit: GoPro Max Review 2 Years Later (& Max 2 News!)

- It's been over two years since I first started using the GoPro Max 2. It's been one of my favourite cameras over this time so I thought I'd look back on some of the footage I've shot over the years.

When the GoPro Max came out it was way ahead of its time. It features great quality 360 video as well as a two in one design with a single lens Hero mode. This made it one of the most versatile cameras at the time.
Two years later in 2022 the Max still holds up to the competition. In this video I take a look at the Max and where it stands now, is it still worth buying and what updates has it received?
Also there's some news (kinda) on the GoPro Max 2!

GOPRO MAX REVIEW 2022
Literally just ordered a Max yesterday 😂. What won me over in the end is the audio still seemed superior to all the other competition.

Still use my Max, love it. Looking forward to seeing the new max and would love to see if they can fix the stitch line and wonder if they will make it more picture friendly for underwater use and maybe something to better idiot proof the lenses as I’ve gone through 3 Max’s so far all replaced through the app. Cheers for the video
Hi always find your vids, honest and balanced and your probably right about them not going to 8k. I have been considering adding a 360 camera for a long time but until somebody produces an 8k version that's engineered properly I will not be buying one, and I know that's what a number of my friends have said as well.
I often use GoPro Max in my jog-vlog. Specifically the Hero-mode with Horizon Lock and the epic stabilization.
Re the lens scratch: buying now you can get a cheaper deal by subscribing to the cloud storage plan. This also allows for camera replacement.
This is a great informative video! I was going to buy this but I might wait for the GoPro max 2 or should I get the insta360 OneX2?

Thank you for the video. I just ordered a GoPro Max over an Insta360 One X2. It was a difficult choice, as it seems the later produced Insta360 seems superior to the GoPro, especially when comparing the editing features and capabilities. That said I chose the GoPro based on logevity in the market place and the fact that I already own and pay for GoPro support.
My question to you, is basically did I make the wrong choice? Will GoPro add some of the excellent creativity features such as those found in Insta360's Shot Lab to GoPro Quik? Or, is there a way to create "trick shots" (for lack of a better term, with the GoPro and Quik, or Final Cut Pro? Lastly, has anyone tried to utilize GoPro's video footage in Insta360's Editor? Not sure if they are compatible, but if not they should be.
Sorry for such a long question, but I do hope you can provide some insight.

Sub'd! Thanks for your input and advice. I just got a Max 2 days ago and so far so good. Although I initially tried the desktop App on my Windows PC and it was very choppy in playback. Also didn't have a couple features that the Mac version has. I tried the Mac App and it seems much better. I'm normally a Windows user mainly because of machine software I use in my job. Luckily I have a couple macs. Curious...I'd love to do some virtual tour videos and have them interactive for people to walk thru a store and see products on shelves etc, zoom in and out and so on. Is there an option or service that I can set this up in? Cheers
still use mine; got it when it was first released - been happy with it; haven't ventured to use the Insta360 products yet.
My guess is Hero,Max, Session and a “Pro/cinematic” line would be the focus on their next four models. Their next 360 camera must focus on higher frame rates and a small bump up in res would be okay if they did. However they need to up their AI in their app and bring us more features like Insta 360. If they don’t then they will seriously be losing out in the 360 market. Would love if they focus on underwater stitching as they could put Al to good use for just that.
They need to go all in on 360. Best camera to ever exist up to this point.

I love my MAX however, I really wish transferring media went way faster and sometimes I feel like the stitching is off. I would definitely buy the new MAX if it really had significant improvement
I'm looking for a camera to record myself snowboard. Are you able to connect your phone to the camera and review your videos pretty easily or do u have to edit for each video to download to your phone in order for them to be watched on your phone?
so its still worth buying right? idk if I should buy it or just wait for the Max 2 cause I'm going to skydive this month idk which one to buy a hero version or the max version

A new Max is a given because they have a new processor meaning yes, they can now add frame rates and resolution improvements. I hope they don’t change the physical dimensions - it is a great shape. Great camera, lousy software as opposed to the Insta360 OneX 2, great software but too small a screen so less perfect camera.
This camera says it has a front facing screen, but it actually looks like it's on the back, my question is with your testing, is, does the back or front camera have any quality difference when using it as hero mode? (not 360 mode), because I always use the lens that shows the logo as the front and keep the lens cap on the back, well to me what looks like the back. I'm actually really curious about this.
My gopro 360 filming when motor bike riding is poor quality. I have tried everything to improve the clarity and definition of the shot but it always ends up blurry. Any help?
if GoPro add 100/120fps in 360 video and night lapse in 360 max would be perfect!
My gopro max freezes but the audio still continues, had a lot of corrupted files because of this. Im planning to buy the insta360 now
I wish Max 2 ramps up the resolution to 8K so the cropped shots don't look like filmed on XX-th century feature phones.

When i record on my gopro max, the light is blinking, but my screen turns black. Any idea why it happen?
My 2 years with Max is one time refresh then 2nd time wanna refresh again but over a year can’t do again 😂😂😂

Insta360 One X 2, the current best 360 camera.
I keep seeing people saying that same thing (it would be to hard to edit) GoPro camera's have a smaller video file I think it's .LRV anyways, I believe the phone uses those little files for editing then the bigger ones for the final export. Also most computers now a days can handle editing 8K video, even the small M1 chips can do it.
Gopro Max is not a real 360 degree camera, because it can't do a 360 degree live stream ... Very disappointing... Insta360 One X 2 is the best 360 camera.
