  • I’ve had quite a few questions about how to use certain processes for voice over. In this video I’ll discuss what these processes actually do. I don’t get into using the with music…JUST how you use them in basic voice over editing.

    This has been the best video that I have seen on Audio Training! I'm going to review and stick with your videos because you actually explain the functions of the tools instead of just giving you numbers to set to everything like I have seen so many do and I feel this is important as starting up engineer to learn! Especially if you are a R&B singer like me who's trying to learn how to engineering his own audio! Thank You Very Much Jason !!!

    You are amazing .. I love your way of rationale things and justify using those effects. I've seen many videos and people go fast and don't explain the reason behind using effects. Thanks for sharing, man.

    This tutorial finally helped me understand why we may want to use these features and for what. Lot of tutorials on TH-cam simply ask us to use a hard value/amount without any explanation, requiring us to just wing it. Thanks for this video!

    I’ve been doing voiceover for a few months and I’ve acquired a really good amount of skill just from hour after hour of editing, but this tutorial will help me quite a bit. It’s not uncommon for there to be a thin section that gets louder, but even when zooming in and selecting infinity on both sides and manually lowering that peak (we’re talking maybe a tenth of a second of audio), it will often create clicks that won’t edit out. So this will save me a ton of time and headache. Thank you!

  • @Drawie
    @Drawie 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Great tutorial! Everything was explained very clearly.
    Having worked a lot with video interviews, I have used hard limiting to bring up my audio levels by setting the max. amplitude above the highest peak (like you demonstrated here) and also giving it some input boost. This raises the peaks to the given max. amplitude and also raises the more quieter parts by the amount of input boost you dial in. So in essence you get compression and normalization with just one command.
    Is this anyhow worse than compressing and normalizating separately?

    I have 1 question...what order do you normally do the following things:
    - filters
    - eq
    - compression
    - limiting

    • @NickEh30
      @NickEh30 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome thanks for the advice!
      I don't know if you'd be willing to help me out, but here goes:
      A TH-camr, named Mike Russell made a video, titled, *How To Make Your Voice Sound Better (Secrets Revealed)*
      In it, he applies 4 effects:
      - Parametric Equalizer
      - Normalize (process)
      - Dynamics Processing
      - Normalize (process)
      I've been doing this process for my voiceovers, but I've read up on Compressors and Hard Limiting, and would like to apply those effects as well.
      So, my question: *When would you apply the Compressor and Hard Limiter, when applying those 4 effects above.*
      I'd assume, based on what you said earlier, that I'd apply them at the very beginning (before I use the Parametric equalizer)?
      Thanks and I really appreciate your help :)
