  • In this video I go over how I built my custom exhaust system for my 2001 Lexus GS300, and I show some before and after shots of how it sounds. At the very end, I give you my honest opinion of the final result.
    Enjoy!

    2 questions
    1. I’m ordering custom pipes for my GS 430.. will it make sense to ask them to make my pipes really quiet but with a strong growl when I rev it?
    2. I notice your fog lights are clear with LED bulbs, can I purchase mine that way or did you put that together?

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They all come clear (at least here in the US). Anything else is aftermarket. As for bulbs they all come with halogens but I like the LEDs better.
      As for exhaust... are you having a shop do it? Or buying pipe and putting it together yourself? Either way you have options... you can delete the third cat like I did, that'll increase sound a little. You can also delete the resonators which i recommend if you want nice crackles. That will increase sound quite a bit. As for mufflers you can do with a turbo muffler which is the quietest option, but still louder than stock. Next level up you have a fiberglass padded muffler which is one notch louder, then you have the straight through muffler, then a chambered muffler, then no muffler. So do your research but know that you will most likely experience some drone no matter what setup you have. So do research and see what you like then test it out. That's the only way to know.

      @@AutoFixYT again, thank you for this help! I'm actually having the pipes custom made so I'll definitely throw those ideas out there when making my purchase.

    I guess twice the mufflers almost twice the Mifflin capability. I'm curious if you dynoed it. It sounds better after the 300 miles I'm guessing computer adjusted its tune. For the dyno in this situation I'd expect 15rwhp or so on NA.

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I was going for something quiet-ish since it's the family vehicle, but something that sounds good still and I've definitely achieved that. I have tried countless times to capture the sound on video but no matter what I record with, it won't come through. In person it's a very deep throaty rumbly tone but even with all the muffling it's not too muffled whatsoever. I am impressed with the sound actually. When the mufflers were new it was definitely more muffled. Now the fiberglass has probably lost its sound absorption capabilities

    I know this video is about exhaust, but I have a question regarding your wheel setup. What wheel/spacers are you running in the last clip where you give your opinion after 1500miles? The fitment looks really good and how it should look stock

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree that that is how the fitment should be from the factory haha
      So those are actually stock 350z wheels. Mid 2000s 350z. They're 18x8 with a 30mm offset, not staggered. In the back I have 1" spacers to line everything up perfectly. As for tire size, I had 225/45R18 tires that came on those wheels and I hated the look and the feel. So I now have 235/50R18 all around. It's got plenty of grip to be thrown in a corner and it will just hook and turn (no, it won't really drift but it's NA open diff so you're not drafting that thing lol) and on the highway it feels A LOT more stable at higher speeds. We won't mention specific speeds but let's just say I didn't know that car could feel so smooth and stable at certain high speeds.
      Also i should mention in the front I do not have spacers. Just the wheels as is.
      Oh and I did have to roll the fenders in the rear. That lip that Toyotas always have that pertrudes into the wheel well was rubbing on the tire.
      Hope this helps!

    I'm sorry I will admit to skimming through to hear the sound but how do you make it loud but not a fart cannon? I straight piped my GS300 with true duals but it sounds really bad.

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      These engines don't sound good straight piped unless they're boosted. As you can see in the video and in the thumbnail, I kept the original primary cats, deleted the secondary cat, kept the original resonators, and changed out the original mufflers for super turbo mufflers. The entire setup is not loud. At least not to my standards. It does however get noisy when you're heavy on the throttle. And it has an amazing deep tone. I also added an H pipe right at the beginning which promotes low end frequencies. An X pipe is more for higher end frequencies and can make an engine sound raspy.
      Hope this helped!

    I just bought a GS300 and truly have no clue how aftermarket exhaust setups work but I’m going to follow this guide when I upgrade the exhaust in Jan.
    My ideal exhaust is something with a loud startup but when I’m on the highway doing 70-90, I don’t want any drone. Any recommendations for something like that?
    Great video btw

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! These are great cars, a lot of fun to drive!
      That's gonna be hard to achieve. I don't know much about pre-made exhaust systems but that might be your best option. Anything custom will have drone that you'll have to remove with Helmholz resonators. Pre-made exhaust systems can often take care of the drone but they are also very expensive. I don't know which ones are best for this car because they are so expensive that I didn't even look at them, I decided to build my own right off the bat. So do your research. Pretty much any exhaust sounds good on a 2JZ so you can't go wrong, the only problem is drone like you said.
      My setup that you see in this video does have some really annoying low frequency drone, between 60 and 70 Hz. Only under 1800 RPM at low throttle input. I plan on fixing that with a Helmholz resonator eventually. These cars sit at about 3k RPM at 80MPH where there is minimal drone for me. But... every exhaust system is different and will react different to certain frequencies.
      Hope this helps!

    • @mohammednurul9380
      @mohammednurul9380 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By drone, you guys mean, the rattling and grumming noise that Resonates throughout the car right?
      Because I too bought a GS300 recently, the exhaust is in pretty good shape, but I want to do muffler delete, just hoping it will not give the "drone".

    • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that's wgat drone is. A very loud, over amplified, kind of sound that is created by the frequencies of the exhaust note combining with the frequencies of the vibration of the chassis as well as the shape of the interior of the car, which makes them bounce around in such a way in which they basically self amplify. On the outside of a car you can never hear that drone.
      A muffler delete shouldn't give you much drone but I guess I wouldn't know since I've never done it on that particular car, so you'll have to try it and see what happens haha

      @@AutoFixYT I'm really taking these things very slowly. • @AutoFixYT
      @AutoFixYT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having had this setuo for almost 2 years now (finished building the exhaust system at the end of Feb 2021), I can tell you the following things:
      - the piping rusted out badly. Not sure if I'm gonna bet more than another 2 years out of it before it falls apart. So if you live in the rust belt, go with some stainless steel or have it powder coated or painted or something
      - the sound was great at first but after about 6 months it really refined and now it sounds even more amazing! It has an aggressive roar to it but it's quiet. Love the sound. Very subtile but still nice
      - this exact setup will have tons of low rpm drone, especially when the exhaust warms up. And the hotter it gets, the more it will have it. Mine has two peaks, the main peak being around 1300-1400 RPMs, super loud and annoying. The second peak around 2500, not that bad but noticeable.
      - I removed the secondary cat so for the first few minutes the exhaust smells until the primary cats warm up enough.
      But... Even with all the negative points it's totally worth it because it's sounds so good lol.
      This is my family vehicle so that's why I kept the resonators on there. Gotta keep it quiet. As soon as it is not the family vehicle anymore, I'd like to cut the resonators off and just run the mufflers. Should bring the noise up a little but not too much. Right now the combination of the two as well as the H pipe remove all the high pitched frequencies so it has a very deep rumble.
