My TERRIBLE Thai/American MARRIAGE | Steve Rosse in Thailand Tells All

  • I interview author Steve Rosse about his memoir "Leaving Thailand". Steve spent 7 years in Phuket, Thailand in the 90's. Steve's book is brutally honest about his life on Phuket and in the USA. He goes into particular detail about his marriage to his now ex-wife and their life in Thailand and the States. There are some hilarious stories in the book too especially the one about how the Crown Prince of Denmark changed Steve's life forever.
The book is a fascinating tale of one man's expatriate experience. I found it hilariously funny at times, terribly sad in parts and a very frustrating read at certain times where I wanted to shake Steve and tell him to get it together.
If you're interested in buying Steve's book here's the Amazon link:

You really need to interview other people besides just dirtbags or criminals dude.
There are many good reasons to not trust a dirtbag like Steve. Just because he seems honest and genuine by admitting he had multiple affairs doesn’t mean he is being completely truthful and unbiased.
I guess interviewing well-adjusted people who don’t do human trafficking just doesn’t bring in the views apparently right?

I first visited Thailand in 1978 and ran into a Vietnam War vet/expat lamenting how terrible Thailand was compared to the glory days of the 60's. Yeah yeah, I said. Then I got married to a Thai, had a couple of kids in America, divorced, and came back in 1991 for a visit whereupon I found myself (you guessed it) bemoaning the lost glory days of the late 70's. Which didn't make either of us wrong.

Love how honest he was in the interview. Atleast if were lucky we all had experienced the one. But as a Christian who studied Buddhism, I learned the art of detachament and letting go. And changed my perspective to enjoying the journey and living in a state of gratefulness...and understand true suffering is holding on to the idea of permanence . That has helped me not to hold on to things that were not meant for me. I hope Steve finds his peace.

When you are young, is very hard to let go of an even younger, cute, girl who gave you the best sexual thrills you could imagine. I feel like I really began to deal well with this at around 30 years old. Finally, around 45, I met a woman closer to my age in Japan . She suffered in the corporate meat grinder in Japan. She said the best words I ever heard from a woman : 'we can survive this world better together'. After 27 yrs., we are still together both healthy and financially well off. Wasn't a perfect relationship, but we survived, as she had foretold over coffee in Japan.

For someone like me who has visited Thailand many times and dreams of one day living part of my life there I'm always fascinated by those who have done just that. I appreciate Steve's honesty which gives us an insight into his life and emotions. Not too many talk openly and honestly about failures. Amazing story and the man is not shy of telling how he felt and how he made bad choice. Great to hear a real story. I live in Thailand so I understand much of what happened. Thailand is not the same but after 14 years here I still can find a way to enjoy the country. If I go visit my own country Canada, it is not the country I left anymore.

Canada has changed more than Thailand and believe me thailand has changed a lot jai yen and mai bpen rai has been replaced by cell phones. Spent late 80s to mid 90s living in Chiang Mai. And the next 11 or 12 years visiting the winter months in mostly Thailand and Philippines

Canada has changed more than Thailand? Not even close. If your specific about the cities, they’re on par with each other. In regards to nature, Canada is a massive country with an insane amount of outdoors you still can explore with barely a soul around. Love Thailand but, try that there lol Cheers

Thanks Pete for this informative video. A very long and complicated life experience for Steve, which he thankfully describes in a very open and entertaining manner. I think that many "male farangs" have paid a lot of "hardship" in the form of cash or emotional fluctuations in connection with Thailand as well. Of course I could also report on some confusing incidents, but not nearly as impressive as it was shown here in the case of Steve Rosse. Nice that Nune has recovered from her accident and thank you again for the video - Greetings from Sattahip - Gerd 🌈🍀💖🌴🌈

Pete, love your channel. Great stuff. You are a great interviewer and I respect your honesty and humility. I am hooked. This guest is gold, he's an open book and its interesting from my perspective. I am not Irish and I don't live in Thailand, but its great stuff. Well, truth be told, I am American of Irish descent and I resettled in Indonesia 22 years ago, happily married and four kids. I took that leap, like you, but at the age of 34 in a dead-end job. Best thing I ever did. Hope to meet you for a beer one day at the pub on the son's rugby tour to Bkk.

the older a man gets the more likely any relationship with a woman will be transactional especially if she is noticeably younger. The sooner we can learn that and plan accordingly the more likely we will be ready when the relationship exists. Love only exists on occasion for high school or college sweethearts who get married when young. They will probably still get divorced.

people sometime are so naive and ignorant to think that u can have a 20-30yrs gap and expect love. I mean it could happen if you catch the right one but it's like finding a unicorn with those odds. He should have stuck with sugarbabies probably cost less for the long run with much more pleasant experiences

Excellent interview and great camera work. I used to share a forum for writers in Thailand where Steve was a frequent contributor. It was many, many years ago and Steve and I exchanged lots emails at the time. We had a fair bit in common and seeing this interview added more to our similarities. In one of those emails he called me his shrink and wanted to know if a bill was coming his way for my services. But I can't charge without a licence and in any case I wouldn't charge a friend. My first trip to Thailand was in 1978 which predated him by a long shot. But I am a fossil compared to him. I'm living in Thailand again and just got married. I need a ghostwriter, where are you Steve?
