Buying an air Cooled Westfalia and adding a Porsche 911 starter. Can this possibly work?

- My 12 year old daughter convinces me to stop at a live auction in an old warehouse where I had been trying to buy cars and scooters since 2006. We score a VW Vanagon and a 60s Vespa ahead of the crowd!

Love this and the goofy groovy music… great job Gigi
Well thank you very much. I appreciate that.
I owned an aircooled vanagon. Build a multivan interior in it. Loved it. These CU engines are awesome.
Sometimes the beauty of an engine is it's simplicity!
I mean how big are those kids getting now???? Excited to see the next van update video where you have swapped a 911 motor into it and built a ramp to jump it!!
Now that gives me an idea!!!
I bet a 3.2 would make that Westfalia boogie on down the road
I have a 930 turbo engine sitting on the shelf.
Let’s go! This is sick!
I wonder if the air conditioning unit is aftermarket or dealer-installed. I remember that the air cooled Vanagons had the single front grille as yours does, but factory AC equipped examples had a lower grille installed for the AC condenser. Water cooled Vanagons always had the dual grilles.
I think it was dealer installed AND that it works very poorly at best!! Just like the early 911.
@@The911Den I once drove a Canadian market 81 Vanagon with the 1.6 NA diesel and the 4 speed several hundred km on a hot summer day. It was equipped with AC, whether it was from factory I'm not sure. It cooled things down pretty well, but I could either use the AC or fourth gear! It couldn't maintain 90km/h on level ground with the AC on.
@@reidster87 HA! That water cooled diesel was a much improved AC system over the earlier air cooled systems which were notorious for barely putting out any cool air. Once the car was heat soaked that was that.
That’s a clean westy
It is clean, needs some mechanical
Hand winch=BEEFCAKE! Of course YOUR Westphalia would use a 911 starter...it just seems appropos :) I kept waiting to see the Vespa!
Those dragging brakes fought us all day! The Vespa is coming up. Totally original 1966 150. 😊
@@The911Den excellent. Can't wait!
Great retro family car, my congrats! Is it difficult to swap manual transmission in it?
Thank you kindly sir!! At this point, the auto just adds to the experience! 😂
Also, I haven't seen a Vanagon in that kind of shape in a long time. Growing up, a friend's family had an 86 Westfalia Syncro that they camped in and used as a second car. They kept it absolutely immaculate. Do you plan to keep it stock, or is a Porsche B32 tribute in the works?
I've thought about swapping in a 911 engine but the Vanagon is so original I figured it should stay original, plkus its an automatic....the only way to make a slow VW van even slower. 67 Hp and a quarter mile time of 20.7 seconds!!😂
I like
You must have experience with classic cars!!!!😅
@@The911Den 😆
What else lurks in that mysterious building Downtown?
A few old GMC trucks and a VW Ghia with no floors.
