Excellent video Mark. Thank you very much for posting. I was some what shocked when you say that there is no care for Dementia in the USA. In my country New Zealand there is state care. I am now retired in Thailand. Enjoy your videos. Thank you very much.
I just read that Mark has passed. In this video he talks about his and our end. Thanks for your well balanced content and helping me with my later years navigating in a foreign land.
Drop the sugar, add in more fats [brain food] drop the carbs, do more fish veggies and proteins, you'll save your mind and your body will love you!! don't forget to do your parasite meds twice a year. The climate, pork, fruits and unwashed veggies have a lot of parasites, especially if you have pets which also carry a lot of parasites and worms... be vigilant!!! Good Luck out there...
Carnivore will make you feel at least 20 years younger. It roll stabilize heart disease and hopefully keeps cancer away. I'll be testing that second one myself. They are working on labeling alzheimer's type 3 diabetes.
I don't currently live in the Philippines/SE Asia but am curious to know what you're referring to as parasite meds that you take twice a year? That info could come in handy if I make the move.
Mark, great video. What I have noticed ex-pats between Japan and the Philippines is like day and night. Ex-pats in Japan more healthy and has more financial resources than the ex-pats in the Philippines with bad health and little financial resources. Basically I been living in Asia since May 1976. Those are my opinion. Keep those great coming.
Good advice Mark. That's something I've thought a lot about since I do have family members that got dementia, but not until they were in their late 80s.
For seniors, early dementia can start anytime. It only gets worse from there. No cure, as you say; but you can slow it down, somewhat. Something similar happened to my buddy, a long term resident of Japan. He's fortunate to have a rock-solid partner in his Japanese spouse. Sad your buddy didn't find such a gem. Hope she's held accountable someday.
Dood! You are the king of downer videos :) But you serve a good purpose. You show people the harsh, unvarnished realities of moving alone to the PI without anyone to help you. Thanks for. the all the good work! Best Regards and Best Wishes!
Good subject that everyone should pay attention to. That’s why it’s important to have at least one close expat friend that has your information and will check on you occasionally. I’ve seen expats partner up with a Filipina and they seem good together but when things gets bad physically or mentally they take advantage of the expat. Many are caring and dependable partners until the end but there are always ones who takes advantage.
Lose your mind is the last thing you don't want to be in if your here in the Philippines, but it happens and that could be tragic. Just make sure you have built a system where you have individuals you can count on and trust, like wife, girlfriend or relatives. It could be hard to do though, unless the person is one of a having a holy and well spirited demeanor.
A frightfulThanksgiving upload, Mark. Life is serious. This topic should serve as a warning to us to make essential changes. Thank you for the bluntness. YIKES.
I do know that in Thailand there are more and more inexpensive memory care living facilities becoming available. Many appear legitimate, safe, beautiful and at much less than half the cost in USA!
Important video. Unfortunately, he trusted the wrong person, and his gf is just taking advantage of him. I would not be surprised if she drained his bank account dry and left him to rot.
Great for you to do a video like this. I just came from a nursing facility to see someone who is 10 years older than me and has dementia. I don't think he knew who I was. And a year ago he knew me. -- He also has parkinsons. And it's believed that contributed to his getting dementia.
This is a tragedy, and thanks for sharing the mans story to help raise awareness. For some reason, though, I do take some comfort in knowing that Mike at one point was an accomplished sailor and that he did indeed own a boat.. at least at one time or another in his life. 🤗
Family in the Ph takes care of there elderly and in US family sticks them in a nursing home and thats it and knowing from experience my mother was mistreated there,i got one care giver fired for mistreatment because i caught her.
As a foreigner you're never truly family. Elderly abuse is rampant here. That will be the final test: whether or not they truly care or if the relationship is merely transactional.
Important sad thoughts! Thanks for talking about a difficult subject that will unfortunately hit many of us like a ton of bricks. Action to prepare a plan is so important.
I just had my mother visit here to see her grandchildren probably for the last time. Her dementia is starting to take over. I can't convince her to stay where I can take care of her. She has nobody back in the US and will be alone. I tried to teach her keto, but she needs professional help. I doubt she'll get any.
Thanks for discussing this important topic! Hope guys will take their relationships with Filipinas seriously...You should take your time and try to find someone you can really trust to be your legal wife. Hopefully, you will find this woman... Plenty of good examples of Filipina wives taking good care of their elderly/sick expat husbands on YT. On this Thanksgiving day, bless you all!
@@everymanhasastory if he's got any military history the local VA contact will know what's possible, there's more help available if he is than if not. Red Cross sometimes pull off some amazing rescues also.
As seniors get older, the percentage that get Alzheimer's disease increases dramatically, like over 20%, so don't assume that just because you don't have relatives in their 50s and 60s who got it makes you immune. More people need to plan for this than you have alluded to in your video.
With all the poverty going on all over the world right now, it's tough to get by anywhere at the moment. That's why the Philippines is a good option. But if it doesn't work then your done. lol
Another good post Mark, I worry when that period in my life come. Im getting back there and to be with the woman I love so what I fear is the challebge to face when mental health.
Any obvious serious issues noticed by airport staff- they will demand a medical clearance certificate to fly. Only way he gets back is with hands on help
I would suggest a medical power of attorney and a durable power of attorney for financial management at the very least. That way you can choose someone ahead of time to handle things. There are local attorneys that can assist with this.

Alzheimers worry’s me. I read (sometimes speed-read) as much as I can and also I’m learning a language on DuoLingo mainly to keep my mind sharp.
If your mind gets loose, you gotta just tighten that thing down again.
I think we should do some exercise, it's good for the brain.
