Enjoyable to watch and the editing flows nicely. I like the amount of detail you give which lacks in most other videos. Cantilevered, reinforced foundation, now that's belt and braces. Me thinks you're an engineer.....sub'ed and nice work
You are technically correct, but one of the many benefits to living in NZ is the temperate climate and in this location there’s no perceptible ground frost to consider. Thanks for the reminder though, and an important consideration particularly for those in the USA and Canada. I’ll be sure to point that out in the next video. 👍
Welcome to the channel. Yes the design is of my making. I trained in mechanical engineering, and after 10-15 years in engineering design moved into cabinet making and then teaching.
I figured I could do with the exercise! Look out for an upcoming series of videos where I repair my mini digger - this project has given me the push I need to start the restoration job!!!! 👍
it would have been much more efficient to remove all the earth up to the foliage, build a retaining wall for the foliage and put down gravel for the parking. your way makes for a better video, however.
@@danwaterson356 😅🤣😂yeah, exactly. you have all the digging tools might as well keep going. im interested to see what will happens when it rains and everything is settled with the asphalt side.waiting for part 2.
@@spicynomad Part 2 is out, and I'm working building the blockwork for part 3 at the moment. We've had a couple of heavy downpours, but no ground movement. The gravel parking space is well compacted road rock (base course), and the driveway is 3" concrete, so there's been no settlement or slippage, thank goodness!
@@danwaterson356 well, thats good to hear. im glad you mentioned the whole freezing thing. im in new york city and we build up but i build all over the midwest and youtube university is helping me. there are a lot more women in the industry so thats good. ive had too many trades take advantage. its like a mechanic. they see a woman driving up and cha-ching let the cash register ring. lol
I hear you. It pays to educate oneself on how our built world works, even if you never lift a spade. If someone appears a little clueless they’re likely to be taken advantage of unfortunately. I’m glad the industry there is accepting of more women in the trades, that positive change is happening here in NZ as well. TH-cam is such an amazing resource for learning and sharing.
Next video (part 2) uploaded in 17 hours time. 😀
I've always wanted to see how this is done. Thanks for sharing your project, your skills, and your pleasant way of explaining things.
Thank you for commenting, glad you liked it.

Cant’t wait for part 2!!
Coming soon……
18:55 wow that’s a lot of digging. Thanks for sharing Dan. So looking forward to this project taking shape
Sure is, and I hate digging! Now I’ve shared the concept sketch I’m committed to the very complex brickwork. It’s going to be a challenge!
Love your way of making your videos, I just discovered your Channel, I suscribe
Thank you for the subscription and welcome to the channel.
Cant wait
I’m taking the formwork out today, so the video should be ready to upload this weekend 🤞
Great attitude!
Thank you.
Nicely explained like the video, and the planning design
Appreciated, thanks.
I like the cut of your jibb Dan.. Just subscribed 👍
Why thank you kind sir, and thanks for the subscription.
Its like your crazy science teacher started doing youtube builders videos haha
Not far off, 2 out of 3 for you sir. No one’s ever accused me of being a science guy though! 😀
You do not seem to be going below the frost line over the entire length of the foundation;... Am I missing something?

Good stuff, great work@@danwaterson356
Late to the party sorry. Is the deign of the wall all your own or did you need an engineer? Or are you an engineer too?

Ever hear of a mini digger

We're part 2
Work in progress. Coming soon.
Nice this looks to be a great project

You’re probably right, but I hate digging! 😂🤣😂 not that you’d realise from the video.
