    Keith you really are a machine! It's pouring raining and you're under time constraint with the work traffic. But you still decide hey let me break out the camera and make this a teaching opportunity for my viewers/students. I applaud your dedication sir! You are top notch all the way around! Thank you and thumbs up!

    Wow, I just stumbled on to your site, First let me say, that is totally rad troubleshooting in the dark on a rainy night, which BY THE WAY is usually when breakdowns occur, several times in my case, back when cars had carburetors (my first car was a corvair lol). Anyway my 2008 Tucson 4 cyl, got a new batt (load tested good 875 CCA) started upon first hookup, then next morning nothing will not even crank, just silence, no lights at all on dashboard. Batt reading 6+ volts on multimeter. Next I charged for 10 hours on 2amp charger, batt reading 12.96Volts, still will not start, not even a whisper of a crank. Then I jumped the Tucson and it started easily. Next to test the alternator I disconnected positive pole and engine continued running, so I assume alternator is ok. Next I checked fuse box, and was lost on how to check other than basic see if burnt out. That's when I came across your video. I'm lost from here on out. My next move was to get down under and tap on the starter with a wooden mallet (old mech trick?). I live on an island thousands of miles out in the Pacific. Any clue on what to check is welcome. I have a Rock Auto account, if a new starter is warranted. last ditch effort. thanks.

    Ground control to Major Keith: thanks for making a vid single handedly out in the rain for our benefit. Much appreciated. On a separate note, you and Rocco did a vid a while back with a folding padded mat to kneel or sit on. You spoke about it but I can't find it now--Was that a Pro-Lift brand? Thanks!

    surprised the relay and socket terminal didn't have a wad of crust also, maybe the rain disguised it

    Nice job Keith thanks always be cognisent of the fact that some pcms are smart enough to know the relay is missing bias voltage and shut the control driver down intentionally.

    Hi New Level... raining on me too... can't see at 1:25 which pin you are jumpering to with red jump to test it? is it the top pin on the closest H/LP relay? I did split fuse box open and it was all so tight in there, so just massaged all the wires and used contact cleaner on the relay, it started. Thanks for your time. hero. now... do I take the time to try re-wiring the box as this is the 3rd time car car failed me?

  • @StephenSnowman
    @StephenSnowman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So both tests with a test light worked. I also tested the F/Pump relay and it has continuity when bench testing. What would you try next?

  • @montydaniels1054
    @montydaniels1054 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    @New Level Auto. What's that purple plastic box next to the Positive Terminal next to the Battery? That's not the Alternator Fuse is it? My Battery Light stays on but when it's too low & needs a jump, all I have to do it hold the jumper cable next to the terminals & it fires right up. I'm guessing our Tucson is doing exactly what my 2003 was doing when that starter was bad..... Iwas soaked for a New Battery, New Alternator & then the mechanic said, ''It must be the Starter...'' That's what is going on now & I'm not going to let anyone just start replacing parts because I'm the one paying for the parts in the first place....

  • @KillJD
    @KillJD 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Out of curiosity, how did you know that using the test light would be safe on that wire? I mean in terms of how much amperage would flow through it to the computer. Thanks.

    • @NewLevelAuto
      @NewLevelAuto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Any standard Bosch style relay will pull between 100 to 300 ma for the coil. Not including the in rush current . I use only a 240ma test light 😉

    • @SouthMainAuto
      @SouthMainAuto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Not to mention that fact that a test light can ruin an ecm is a myth...

    • @ahill007ny
      @ahill007ny 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      South Main Auto Repair LLC OMG!!! You don't how annoying it was to got to Apex Technical and hear how dangerous test lights was on an ECM 8 months of torture. Watching you guys on here every day use them with no problem. Then the whole story about going to the ECM/PCM to test a CKP/CMP was dangerous too, which Keith did mention in a few videos that pushing a Back probe too far Could short it so I give them that.

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      a shorted test light could potentially kill an ECM, but you know if it was shorted or not since you "TESTED" it's functionality before using it ;)

    • @SouthMainAuto
      @SouthMainAuto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@throttlebottle5906 in over 20 years doing this I have never seen or heard of a shorted test light, open yes, shorted, never. Oh and Stanley, if you are ever in a class and they say that to you just do what I do in every class I have ever heard that myth in. Raise your hand and ask them for a specific example on how a 150ma test light will ruin the ECM. BTW, I have yet to have a "teacher" answer to that question haha.

    Great video! Do you have any experience with changing the camshaft sensors on a Hyundai 2007 Santa Fe 2.7L? I have a crank / no start issue w/ zero rpm indication. I cannot remove the Bank 1 camshaft sensor (seems the engineers at Hyundai designed the water lines that go to the cooling assembly to encroach on ).

    What was the jump you made to get the car running. I'm 3 hours from home with the same relay corroded. Relay is still good because I swapped it with the starter relay and it works. I got green build up on that same pin that you found had no ground control. I just want to jump it and drive home then work on it . Stiuck here please someone respond.
