- A wizard named Merlina, granddaughter of the original Merlin, summons Sonic the Hedgehog into the world of King Arthur. She explains that the King has been corrupted by the immortality granted by the scabbard of Excalibur, becoming a tyrannical ruler, and that Sonic must defeat him to restore peace to the kingdom. Sonic's speed alone is insufficient to defeat King Arthur, so he takes up the talking sword Caliburn to stand against the King.

13:33 You actually kind of have to admire how Sonic is perfectly happy with the idea of running from a foe (even when it's his biggest rival), not because he's afraid or doesn't think he can handle it, but because he's a chill guy who prefers to avoid conflict whenever possible. It also shows that Sonic doesn't care what others think of him or if he earns the disapproval of others for not conforming to their notions about honor.

this is representation of the characters in the fiction with characters representing same personality and story relevant roles.
Amy is supposed to actually be eternal virgin since she is the Lady of the Lake. take it as you will.
Also, at the end Sonic 53:52 says he is real king Arthur. King Arthur is married to Guinewhere, not the lady of the lakes so.
For a game primarily targeting a children audience, I think the theming of this story is quite mature. Even though the theme of life, death, and existentialism is very light, I can appreciate that the earlier Sonic storylines were willing to at least touch on subjects like this.
Now we've got "Baldy McNosehair" at least once in every game (okay, that's an exaggeration, but the point is that Sonic Colors jokes are not funny anymore).

Yeah they had an amazing run of games up to this point. I liked Sonic Generations and colors tho. Anyway, hopefully this new sonic game will be one for the books
Joining the hope train (hehe) just to bring some positive energy to the upcoming release. Once the people over at Sonic Team realize this is what the games should be like and stop taking all the fanbase says so personally, they can bring back heart to the series. i played this game before on my wii, but i randomly wanted to watch the cutscenes again and wow. my interpretation is that knuckles failing in the battle and wanting to commit die is basically just a metaphor to people who fear failing, and it’s just so perfect. like “a knight who fails his king is unfit to live!” like in “someone who fails is unfit to live!”.
and then you have sonic, who says “isn’t there more to being a knight than just serving a king?”, meaning “isn’t there more to being a person than just succeeding?”
anyways just wanted to point that out since i don’t see many people talking about this part much :)

Honestly, I enjoyed this game for the story. It's an interesting twist to the original story, and the voice actors did an amazing job its ridiculous. Jason Griffith is such a good sonic.

1º:Jason Griffith's performance was his best before Colors;
2º:Has a great improvement from gameplay of Secret Rings;
3º:The music is always the best;
4º:By playing it on the emulator,it feels much better
5º:The new desings of the characters are actually good

Love Amy in this game, she helps sonic, not brags out for him (even though she is different in this game) and plays a important role in the story.
She didn't just sit there and #prayforsonic, she wanted to know if Sonic was a true knight, she also helped them where to locate to form the barrier around the kingdom.

So I completed this game for the first time a few days ago - the gameplay was questionable, but the STORY. HOLY HELL, IT WAS FANTASTIC. This is honestly one of the best characterisations of Sonic I've ever seen and I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. But it's a bit of a mixed blessing because it's reminded me of how...WEAK the writing is in the new games after the writers changed. Colours wasn't so bad, but after that, even in Generations, it's like they just don't care. I haven't played Forces but I haven't heard good things about the story, unfortunately. They're trying to focus on being funny (questionably, most of the time), but there's just no heart anymore. I miss *THIS* Sonic. So, so much.
(What ALSO pisses me off: my favourite Sonic voice actor is a solid tie between Jason Griffith and Roger Craig Smith. Roger's AMAZING as Sonic in his own right, but thanks to the shitty writing in the new games, he doesn't get to show off his chops. He'd be SPECTACULAR in a story like this, and it feels like his talent is being wasted. Just watch the Twitter Takeovers and Sonic Boom, for example!

The best part about this game is that it doesn't end after you defeat the final boss, there's a LOT of optional missions that are unlocked throughout the story, and after you complete the game.

This game is one of the best! They managed to tell and amazing story with good lessons. There's humor, action and seriousness and they never take away from each other. The characterisation is on point, Sonic feels like Sonic. The way he interacts with the Knights who clearly resemble his friends is brilliant. "You look just like this Knucklehead I know."
"Hey, Tails! Nah, it can't be. This is the Smithy, right?"
The characters are incredible, the soundtrack is incredible, the voice acting is incredible. The sad thing is that this game marked the end of Sonic's greatest years and made way for Pontac and Graff to clown around with the franchise for 11 years.

its because 4kids contract with sega ended. 4kids also went bankrupt iirc which is why the voices changed in free riders. had 4kids made anothe contract and didnt go bankrupt they would still be here
The sonic story book series only spawned Secret Rings and this game. I kinda wished they went into greek mythology next with the clash of the titans as the basis for the story.

Even people who already know the history behind Arthur's sword and all, we didn't noticed at all the fact that the real King Arthur was Sonic all the time. Like, he took off the sword from the rock, and we all know that only the true king could do that, but, we got our attention in the fact that Sonic needed to defeat the 'black knight' know at the moment just like the king.
This is, so far, Sonic's best game, history and soundtrack ever 😍😍😍
