      Niki Polka the fact that Kylie has now made one, makes it harder for Kourtney as she would be kinda stabbing Kylie by competing with her. Seeing how much more knowledge Kourtney knows, she could take Kylies customers and her line would be used to compare and put down Kylie Skin.

    Amino acids are not “a protein” but they are building blocks of protein. There are 20 different amino acids and they combine in different ways.

    • @likechopsticks
      @likechopsticks 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      just about to comment this when I heard that part. You can think of a protein as a string of beads and amino acids serve as the beads. As far as the collagen thing goes, the way Susan explains it, it sounds like the applied collagen is just being broken down. Maybe collagen itself isn't the useful ingredient, but amino acids might play a role. The next question would be do amino acids do anything to the skin when applied topically? I have a feeling the answer is no, since it doesn't seem like collagen does much anyhow.

    • @rebeccamadsen4509
      @rebeccamadsen4509 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jennifer Poo Michelle from LabMuffinBeautyScience "explained" it in an instagram post. Basically what she said is that the results of collagen supplements are very modest and she wouldn't rank it high on the list of "things you can use for anti aging" however the reason is not because it just breaks doen into amino acids and gets used for other things in the body cause Collagen contains a rare amino acid that could help collagen in the body. She explaind it better tho :p
      When it comes to applying collagen topically like collagen in moisturizers I've only read that the molecule of collagen is huge, way bigger than what would be needed for it to penetrate the skin byt that it could help the outermost layer but that's all I've read :)

    • @babykrul
      @babykrul 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rebecca Madsen Do you think it would be good to put on an amino acids + b5 serum before moisturizer? I sometimes do that with dry skin patches and in between my retinol treatment days, do you think that that actually does something? It really feels nice but...

    I think it’s important to remember that aromatic essential oils (of course the formulation matters) especially in cosmetics like skincare, can cause a ton of sensitivity that might not cause acute reactions, but long term use can be really damaging to the (face) skin. Aromatherapy is definitely the way to go with these types of essential oils!
    Edited to add: Fatty oils i.e; sunflower seed oil, avocado oil, ect...are a different story and have amazing skin benefits! Thanks for coming to my Ted-Talk! ❤️

    Derma rollers cause larger tears in the skin than the pens, plus they’re supposed to be single use. Way too much potential for damage and infection. The pen has single-use cartridges.
    Also, using a roller with vitamin C, etc. can cause granulomas. You’re really only supposed to use high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, with maybe some peptides or growth factors. She’s giving potentially harmful advice.

    • @noneness
      @noneness 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Can you explain further? I've heard other people use it like this frequently who have had pretty good results. Although they're only using the roller once every few months and they sterilize it. Also, it seems like vitamin C serum is a pretty common product to combine it with. I've also heard this advice from a medical esthetician

    • @mshan1495
      @mshan1495 4 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      noneness There have been medical studies showing that microneedling vitamin C into the skin can cause granulomas. It certainly doesn’t happen to everyone, but it happens to statistically enough people that it is a legitimate medical concern.
      As far as the derma rollers go, there is no way you can totally sterilize them unless you have an autoclave. That puts risk for infection rather high. And because of the rolling action, they cause longer grooves/tears in the skin than a microneedling pen (which causes a straight, small puncture). In addition, the needles will bend and break over time, additionally damaging the skin.
      While some/many people have had good results using them, the risks are rather high and quite real. You can buy a microneedling pen with disposable cartridges for like $100, which will greatly minimize the risks of adverse effects. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

    • @noneness

      @mshan1495 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It's not the way to clean a derma roller, the needles will get dulled from the container you put it in. You put the rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle, spray derma roller, sit it on the packaging it comes in, it shouldn't touch anything after you've sprayed it. The packaging usually has a little rest for the roller head so it doesn't come into contact with anything, leave to air dry, use, repeat cleaning and air dry, put away and do the same next time you use it. Watch makeup by Anne-Marie, it was her derma rolling videos that I watched and that's how I started. I've been using a derma roller at home for 2 years and I've had no problems at all! Little tip, put some face oil on underneath your clay mask if it's very drying. Charlotte Tilburys goddess glow clay mask is amazing! I have used it in and off for a few months already missing days here and there. I read you have to be consistent at least for 4 weks to start noticing changes and may take up to 3 months. I am on a first week without missing a day. I will see results in future...I hope 😬

  • @wendigo1919

    As an aesthetician, I am in agreement, dermarolling should be left to the professionals. So much can go wrong. One huge no-no is to never use actives like pure vitamin C/l-ascorbic acid when derma-rolling; it can actually produce an infection under the skin causing lumps, which is your immune system rejecting this foreign substance. Scary..... I occasionally use clay masks in my t-zone and they're really easy to remove- just saturate a washcloth in lukewarm water, wring out while retaining much of the moisture and place on face. Press it into clay for a few seconds until you feel the clay soften and it wipes away sure easily... important now to rehydrate the skin.

    Hi Susan! I was waiting for you to do this review. Thank you! I agree that dermarolling at home is risky, but if you are going to do it at home there it is important to do a few things that Kourtney possibly got wrong. Sterilizing with alcohol is great, but rinsing it with water after the alcohol undoes the sterilization. Water is the opposite of sterile which is why oils don't need preservatives and moisturizers do, an oil is devoid of water. Sterilize the dermaroller with alcohol, shake off the excess (or let airdry), dermaroll SLOWLY and only in one direction at a time, then leave skin with no serums or anything else on top of the skin for 24 hours-enough time to allow the small perforations to heal. This is the safest way to prevent any bacteria entering a small blood vessel under the skin, but most people do not want to go without skincare or makeup for 24 hours. I think that dermarolling probably works wonders, especially for uneven texture, but I am not a huge fan of the idea of alcohol going into the lower layers of skin. I am not a professional, I am only going off what I have read about the process. Also, I can vouch for collagen supplements! The first week after I started taking the Neocell brand of powdered collagen my lashes grew SUPER long to the point where it looked like I was wearing falsies. I did not notice other immediate effects, but I did notice this and it was the only thing I added to my routine, so worth it for me!

    My mother is a qualified aromatherapist and would start hyperventilating if I told her I slapped some Bergamot oil on my face. Even just a little. She would be ok with the lavender if it was lavender water or diluted in a high quality carrier oil and nowhere near my eyes or mouth. These companies need to be as responsible with flower/herb/tree derived oils as they are with lab created synthetic products.

      What would your mom consider to be the best method of usage for essential oils in order to reap their benefits? Topical application or diffusion? Or maybe something else?
