    Where is your favorite buffet? It doesn't have to be in Hawaii. Let me know thanks!

      Just went to Bird of Paradise in Ewa at the Prince Golf Course. Nice mid range buffet for $70. Not the best buffet but for Locals who don't want to travel to Waikiki, it's pretty good and Service is excellent. Haven't been to many buffets recently but Orchids or 100 Sails are pretty good.

    Good to know they're offering a lunch buffet now. We've been to the breakfast buffet a couple times and found it good for its price point. Thanks Charles!

    I used to eat the breakfast buffet here 20 years ago after Sunday school. $7 per person. Just a simple spread of continental dishes, and a manned omelette station if you wanted custom eggs. Good times.

    Duke's used to have a great portuguese fisherman stew, and a good pasta station and different breads. Sad that they don't have those anymore, but I'm happy they have the buffet back

    Yeah, eating mushy poke is the worst. But, $30 for a Waikiki buffet is unheard of. It looked really good. I guess you get what you pay for. Thanks for the honest review.

    That's extremely good value for the money at Duke's. What I really enjoy lobster seafood roll dish served with chips (Hawaiian company) from Hula Grill in Waikiki was $25 happy hour time.

    • @AuthenticallyCharles
      @AuthenticallyCharles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried Hula Grill before. I'll check them out one day. A lobster roll sure does sound good! I was telling a couple other subscribers that I feel this price point with the kamaaina discount was around $24. And it really brought back memories of when I used to eat at buffets in the 90s and early 2000s when a lot of buffets were under $30. My poke bowl that I get sometimes is almost $20. So for $4 more this place is a complete deal! Thanks for watching!

    I boil my shortribs for at least 1 hour then grill it with kalbi sauce. Connective tissue is now easier to consume.

    • @AuthenticallyCharles
      @AuthenticallyCharles  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a pro tip right there! I'll keep that in mind next time I do kalbi. It's so much easier to eat when it's softer haha. Thanks for watching!

  • @Jono2002
    @Jono2002 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for sharing. What made you do some of the buffet footage in reverse? I’m glad the rain stopped so you could do the video. Yup I eat all around the kalbi bones and get sad when others don’t haha. Too bad about the poke. My top buffet is garden court brunch buffet at Main Street station with the vacations Hawaii coupons haha. Totally worth $3.

    • @AuthenticallyCharles
      @AuthenticallyCharles  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hahaha oh yeah main street station! Can't beat that for sure. We need $3 buffets here! Good eye on catching the reverse clips. I did it because I wanted all the footage to flow in the same direction so it wouldn't be too chaotic for the viewer to watch. I was telling another subscriber that this buffet price point reminded me of the buffets in the 90s and early 2000s. With the kamaaina discount was like $24 bucks. What a deal it's a good buffet for what it is. But man if the poke wasn't so mushy I'd be coming here every week lol.

    • @Jono2002
      @Jono2002 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AuthenticallyCharles Haha nice touch doing the videos in reverse to keep the flow of the video through the buffet line the same. At first I couldn't believe someone was putting food back into the tray haha. And yeah, $30 in Hawaii is a great deal. Just a shame the poke and kalbi weren't too awesome since those would help you get your money's worth. We are targeting November for our next Vegas trip. I think the week before F1 since we can't afford the F1 week haha.

    The Poke does look bad, doesn't even look like the spicy Ahi is the right color just looks like mayo lol. Always a warning sign when it is not cubed uniformly too. Whoever cut it doesn't even care. I have never had a good experience at Duke's, last time had a super weird interaction with a waitress there who cleared our table early and was super aggro for no reason. (Wasn't even our waitress who was really nice...) But low 20s with Kama'aina discount not bad at ALL. Cheers Charles

    Nice! Just came to your channel and this is the 2nd video of yours I've watched. First one was the Skyline now Duke's Buffet. Thank you! Very informative. I will search Duke's for brunch hours. I think the poke is previously frozen reason it's mushy. Considering the menu that you showed I think it is very reasonable for a buffet in Waikiki. The Skyline, no public luas? No can!

    For $29 its worth the price. If you want a buffet from $80-$115 like Hyatt, Four Seasons, 100 Sails to name a few then expect the best food quality.

    Awesome buffet! The shrimp is off the hook! It is $31 lunch buffet Monday through Friday. The video doesn't show how good it really is. You have to experience it. The shrimp are cooked to perfection. The salad bar is fresh and the pre-made salads are very flavorful. Cannot say enough about this buffet. The poke is good. The fish is raw and fresh... The spiced poke could have been hotter. You are making your own poke bowl. In the video he ate probably $20 worth of poke easily.... Their prime rib buffet on Thursday nights is $64. It is awesome and a huge value. I are there December 14th... The place was rocking. I ate about 4 servings of prime rib. I ate cuts that no one else wanted to. They were happy to give them to me and They were awesome. At supper the poke is self serve. You eat as much as you want. The buffet starts a t 4:30 pm so go and eat and watch the sunset. Awesome ocean view.

    Connective tissue? You bet! I even grind on the soft ends of the bones! Duke’s is not what it used to be years ago but $29- it’s a bargain!

    • @AuthenticallyCharles
      @AuthenticallyCharles  ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too! I love eating the cartilage and everything. But you know what this price point reminded me of the buffets back in the 90s and early 2000s. With the kamaaina discount I paid like $24 bucks. What a deal!

    • @renegrevas2092
      @renegrevas2092 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We remember those price points too well. The old Hilton/Mandarin Oriental/Kahala had a magnificent Friday night seafood buffet for like $49.
      Today it would be five times that! And the Royal Hawaiian had a great one- before they made it a regular restaurant ordering by the menu.
      Duke’s had a fabulous salad bar- including anchovies- and gave generous portions of potatoes on an entree plate. Now they serve 5-year-old portions. It’s sad for us to witness what you younger folks have to put up with.
      I learned recently that average consumer debt in the U.S. (credit card, etc., not mortgages) is approaching $250K. Not surprised- I often wonder how working people with kids manage. Get ready for a looong recession. But, your travel tips are great. People will splurge for vacations. And why not? They’re in deep financial trouble anyway. What’s another few thousand? With your help, they get more than they bargain for.😉

    Poke is definitely FRESH. It’s really good! Coming from a Hawaiian. Eating the poke at Duke’s now… Hate to say this but Charles doesn’t know what fresh fish taste like! That “mushy” texture Charles describes is actually not mushy but so fresh it melts in your mouth. I suspected this when he was making the motion in his mouth. Charles-stop eating Foodland poke and find some cousins or uncles that can give you fresh kine. Just didn’t want his “mushy” judgement to deter others.
