DEAR SMAGS, please listen to Emergency And I by The Dismemberment Plan. And now I will rant about my love for this album. I have never in my life heard crippling anxiety written this accurately. It’s so nervous and so jittery and so relatable in ways you just can’t believe till you hear it. The instrumentals are absolutely incredible and insanely infectious and convey the tone just as well as the leads voice. Speaking of omg..the lead. You feel the nervousness in his vocals and how isolated he feels. So so incredibly passionate and such an amazing performance. This album is about reflecting on the past and how you can miss out on so many things because of your own insecurities. And it’s so damn catchy to. It ironically got me out there more and motivated me to experience my life because I did NOT want to end up where this man is is writing about 😂😭Please check this out it’s one of my favorites of all time.🩵
@@lizardman7718 smags dose not have to listen to this😂 I just wanted to share my experience and share one I think he would dig imo. It’s one of my favs loll😭
So glad you enjoyed this album. It gets unnecessarily hated on sometimes for its radio singles, and I think it's because they were played to death back in the 90's and 2000's...but even those songs are great. The rest of the album's deep cuts are even better. Darker, more complex lyrics than you'd expect and just great musicianship across the entire tracklist. My favorite songs are the last four on the album.
Yeah I wasn't around then, I'd heard semi charmed life around but never knew what it was a until last year and I just love this album. What's great about it for me is just how replayable it is, I just don't get sick of it. I love system of a down, kendrick lamar, Stevie Wonder, MF DOOM and death grips so much but I go through my phases with them, but this album just sticks for me and I'm never not in a mood to hear it.
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People Menomena - Friend and Foe Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs Wolf Parade - Apologies to Queen Mary Also Bob Dylan is having a biopic come out in December, might be fun to listen to his albums before seeing the movie. (Freewheelin', The Times They are a Changin and Blood on the Tracks are all good starting places)
smagsss, I sincerely ask you to react to Anitta's Funk Generation, it's a trilingual album that presents Brazilian funk, talks about love, inclusion, empowerment, religion and lots of sex, and has really fun and crazy beats, I've been waiting for this for 4 months 😭😭🥺
age of adz would be really cool to see. no hurry tho because it looks like 9/10 of the comments are recommending like 3 albums which has to be overwhelming. love the videos ❤
This album fucking slaps. I was big into this my freshman year, probably about 2004. None of my friends gave them a time of day except one friend I met a year or so later. I just remember being ceramics class blasting London and Burning Man on my walkman, trying to make a bowl. Core memories man.
I'd recommend Clarity by Jimmy Eat World since you loved this. It leans more towards emo, but its one of the greatest alt-rock albums of the 90s in my opinion.
smags my brother, you should give these albums a try: Rosalía - MOTOMAMI, FKA Twigs - CAPRISONGS and Anitta - Funk Generation, they have a feel to How I'm Feeling Now by Charli XCX
Yo smags pls i want these albums Dcfc-transatlanticism Injury reserves-by the time i get to phoenix Postal services-give up Smiths-strangeways here we come David bowie-hunky dory
This is an absolutely gorgeous album for bass players. Arion Salazar did such a stellar job. The intro to The Background is probably one of my favorite bass pieces of all time next to 311's Coda. Amazing album
Losing A Whole Year 0:53 Narcolepsy 2:50 Semi-Charmed Life 5:00 Jumper 7:25 Graduate 10:05 How's It Going to Be 12:15 Thanks a Lot 14:45 Burning Man 17:40 Good for You 19:29 London 21:39 I Want You 23:30 The Background 26:08 Motorcycle Drive By 28:42 God of Wine 31:29
Hell yeah, I started listening to this album just last year and it's easily one of my most listened to albums. Was not expecting anyone to be reacting to this and never asked for it but I just saw this video pop up and got so stoked for you to listen to it 👍
You are an amazing reviewer. You picked up on so many insights and share so many of the same thoughts as someone who has listened to this album thousands of times. How many times did you listen to the cd before reviewing it? I never get any insights on a first listen. After seeing so many "reaction" channel this is truly a review channel - feel like you could have a gig at a magazine in a different time period haha
recs: Quasi - Featuring "Birds" (Awesome Built to Spill-esque/Pacific Northwest indie rock, same label as Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Duster etc) The Breeders - Pod (Unique early 90s alt rock, Steve Albini prod, was in Kurt Cobain's top 3 albums of all time) Slint - Tweez (Sick late 80s post-hardcore/math rock, also Steve Albini prod) Pinback - Pinback (Very chill and creative late 90s indie rock) Modest Mouse - This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About (Amazing album, very nearly as good as The Lonesome Crowded West) Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (Insanely badass aura filled production and vocals, extremely unique) Weezer - Pinkerton (Some of the nicest sounding guitar/drums/everything you'll hear in 90s alt rock, with crazy honest lyrics, ended up inspiring some emo bands) The Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land (badass big-beat dance music) Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (lovely 90's lo-fi) Hella - Hold Your Horse Is (Math Rock with the drummer from Death Grips, before he was in Death Grips) Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (Absolutely perfect 90's indie rock album)
I graduated the year before this album came out. It hit me right in the sweet spot. Semi-Charmed Life was so huge that it pretty put them in the one hit wonder category and you to almost defend yourself for liking them. 😂 But this album and their second album are nearly perfect pop rock albums.
kind of a random recommendation but I've been listening to "Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By" by The Drones and it may be one of the best hidden gems of 2000s rock. (Also El Jardin de los Presentes by Invisible!)
Your comments about being in high school in the 90s cracked me up. I graduated in '02, had my first relationship in 9th grade, and this album "spoke" to me then so much. Luckily, it has aged well. Glad you appreciated it!
I just watched all of your king crimson reviews and sorry to bring it back but you must do “in the wake of Poseidon” it’s the only other album besides in the court of the crimson king that has Greg lake as the vocalist alot of people hate on it but it is gorgeous
Somebody else mentioned it but clarity by Jimmy Eat World hits similar emotions vibes. It’s more firmly in the emo sub genre but it will scratch that itch
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MY GUY a few recommendations: SMILE :D - Porter Robinson (pop-punk, pop, electronic) Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
Big dawg, ngl I didn’t watch the review because idk this album at all but you should make a video about songs or albums to listen to while driving. Just got my license and I would appreciate some recs for cruising. Thank u and I shall watch the video now
this album is what i always want to listen to when i’m sad during summertime. the LYRICS oh my god i am crushed every time

So underrated now glad to see it’s starting to get more notoriety
Adore this record, it has aged incredibly well for its genre!
yo la tengo, dismememberment plan or mitski would be great. Built to spill's keep it like a secret too, one of the best albums of the 90s
this album is so fun, good pick
Try Jets To Brazil´s orange rhyming dictionary.
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People
Menomena - Friend and Foe
Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs
Wolf Parade - Apologies to Queen Mary
Also Bob Dylan is having a biopic come out in December, might be fun to listen to his albums before seeing the movie. (Freewheelin', The Times They are a Changin and Blood on the Tracks are all good starting places)
Blood on the Tracks probably isn't the best starting point. Freewheelin or Bringing it All Back Home seem best
I'll second that BSS suggestion!

The genius of this album is that it’s relatable to both 14 year old suburban high schoolers and 30 year old meth addicts
I just watched all of your king crimson reviews and sorry to bring it back but you must do “in the wake of Poseidon” it’s the only other album besides in the court of the crimson king that has Greg lake as the vocalist alot of people hate on it but it is gorgeous
