    Darrin Wiener of Patch Point pointed out that Peter's zero is all knobs at 1 o'clock, and not just the top one. Also, top is ring, low is antenna and not the other way around. Also you should not tune it yourself, as all new instruments are factory tuned and you might break things if you don't know how trimpots work.

    I've really started to fall for these Ciat-Lonbarde instruments. I'm kind of tempted to start with a Tocante, they're so portable, solar powered, and quite a bit cheaper than the Deerhorn, but the Deerhorn looks like a lot of fun...

      Thank you! I had kind of dismissed the instrument first, since I thought that three Deerhorns this close together would be hard to play. But then I tried out a finely tuned DH at Patch Point and fell in love. That is why I cover the tuning process in so much detail - its essential to get the most out of it.

    • @Hainbach

      Not really! The Plumbutters Deerhorn is a bit more limited - it does no go as deep by itself. I always liked it, but its much more exiting on the Organ.

    dear hainbach, what you think about using 3 theremin module of doepfer with three different sources (oscillators+...) to create something that could resemble maybe this deerhorn or that could sound anyway interesting? Have you ever tryed this theremin doepfer module controller or in general to use more than one theremin device ? It should be possible to set a "distance\sensitivity" to be able to not let the antennas interfere with each others. I actually just saw there is a lot of "theremin controller module" . have you ever use them?

    • @Hainbach
      @Hainbach  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mmh, the OSCs are special on the Deerhorn. They are the secret warm sauce together with the VCAs that make it sound so pleasant without reverb. If you have similarly rich combo sure it could work with Doepfers.

    • @LazarusGordon
      @LazarusGordon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      tanks for answer, yet it seems that none on the web ever tryed (or show) to use more than one doepfer theremin control at once. My will would be to make a poliphonic theremin (that is what i like of deerhorn). Maybe ill try myself :)

    Beautiful machine! I've always found those no-touch interfaces very frustrating to use - getting flashbacks to using roland d-beam for pitchbend on my synths... At least the visual feedback on deerhorn lets you know what it's thinking!

    • @Hainbach
      @Hainbach  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      D-Beam! I had forgot about that. Yeah, I usually prefer touch but with this it feels pretty easy. Though I surely lack the body control for pitched playing.

  • @vaspers
    @vaspers 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love you so much, man! You explain many of the more esoteric synthesizers that I am very interested in. I got a Folktek Mescaline, one of the very last units available and love it. Now I want the Plumbutter (Ciat Lonbarde), Organelle (Critter & Guitari), Lyra 8 (Soma Labs), and other strange devices. You do such a great job in these videos. Have you ever played the Zenert?

    • @Hainbach
      @Hainbach  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you Steven! I have played the Zenert - its the one Tocante I am still most interested in. It sounds like the howling wind of the mongolian steppe. I have played them all a workshop Peter gave.

    • @vaspers
      @vaspers 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you think Zenert is versatile, or do you get tired of the whistling howling sounds quickly? There are almost no demo videos of it.

  • @RomanticAnalog

    Reminds me of Roland's "D-Beam" feature only MUCH more intuitive, interactive and expressive.

    • @Hainbach

  • @CaalamusTube
    @CaalamusTube 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    HAINBACH So I guess what I've concluded, from watching these two Ciat-Lonbarde Videos you suggested ( this one, now for the 2nd time [Sad Robot Kitties] ) ...is that the Cocoquantus leans way more towards processing, but isn't without Signal Generation capabilities ( in the form of 3 Triangle Oscillators ). But the Deerhorn is more firmly rooted in Signal Generation, with slightly less of a penchant for Modulation.
    Sound fair?

    • @Hainbach
      @Hainbach  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that is about right. Deerhorn can do gestural mixing and some AM, but it's a sound generator at heart.

    Hi, thank you for this. Question, I have a deerhorn since a few weeks and I'm a bit confused on the tuning. I asked patch point and they mentioned that top trimmer is for antenna and bottom for ring. I presume with the three stereo inputs bottom side. Am I misinterpreting things?

    is tt theremin or teh-rem-mine

  • @dinraum
    @dinraum 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well my Moog theremin is very sensitive to the surroundings. How does the deerhorn antennas (and osc pitch) react to the patch cables and their position?

    • @Hainbach
      @Hainbach  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Osc pitch is rather crazy anyway, since it was not really made for that. I struggled with that as you can see in the video, but I don't have the amazing restrained and control of a theremin player. But the cables do affect the antennas - also because they are in the way when playing. Pomona cables are almist a must.

    • @dinraum
      @dinraum 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      HAINBACH ok that is what I expected. And it looks that the pitch range (or more the playable space) is rather narrow compared to a theremin. So this is more for Modulation, but the cable issue makes it more or less useless if you think of a decent playable instrument that the player can get used to by practicing. The way it is it reminds me more of a guitar that gets out of tune immediately.

  • @MarkoDeLaVoota
    @MarkoDeLaVoota 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    why banana cables are superior to eurorack in your opinion , elaborate?

    • @Hainbach
      @Hainbach  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They are bigger which makes them more sturdy and comfortable to hold, they stack very high easily, they make contact immidiately so you can play them softly. Once you try them its hard to go back.
