Thanks for the vid, especially the audio! I spent 3 years in the 70's as an Army Crew Chief and Gunner on Slicks (So. Korea - 201st Avn. Co. Assault Helicopter "Red Barons"), I really miss wrenching on them and I especially miss flying. The sound of that old T53 spooling up really takes me home. Thanks again, fly safe.
A good book series that looks at Vietnam from the back seat is Chopper1 by Jack Hawkins. I was a Huey crew chief in the late 70's, so I prefer it to stories about pilots. As crew chief's, we could do without pilots, but they couldn't do without us.
Oh my god this thing is so powerful. An actual Huey low level flight. They are low enough to stop and utilize ground effect and hover at any time. But wow what amazing power for a helicopter
As a H135/H145 pilot with over 22 years of experience i can asure you all……ALWAYS AVOID BIRDS if possible, this pilot clearly knows this airport/area so he knew for sure there are birds……BAD judgement……..and YES……birds can be the cause of a Huey crash. 😖
I am not a pilot but this pilot hardly used the cyclic at all. The collective stick looked like he hardly even used it.. It must be a great helo to fly and it looks so easy to fly one too.
I fly in a lot of helicopters and I know a lot of pilots...the corrections made during flight are often very subtle. Also, I wouldn't say flying a helicopter is easy. Maybe once you're cruising but takeoff and landing can be very difficult.
The controls (peddles and cyclic) are so sensitive that just thinking about moving the cyclic has the effect of moving the cyclic. Thus, very little movement most of the time. The collective sets your power. You pull enough torque to get you to a hover add a couple/few pounds more torque and you're flying.
man the huey looks like its way heavier and more controllable than in dcs, I wonder if you have to twitch like a madman irl to control the huey when trying to be stationary xD
If you are lucky you might find an old used microsoft ffb sidewinder2 with a usb plug, with force feedback you can sort of feel the weightso your input becomes less twitchy for a smoother flight.
Who saw this like an instantly crashing scene after taking off on Battlefield Vietnam video game ?... oh my, what a classic and noob piloting. Great video though
What do you want? The real life experience. Adrenaline pumping, door gunners firing, sitting with my helmet, 16, aid bag and feet dangling out the door way. No seat belts or cherry seats.
It doesn't self-center. There are magnetic brakes called force trim. What the pilot does is set the peddles and cyclic to a desired position (Cyclic usually centered and slightly rear, peddles to whatever is straight flight) then turns on the system. All control movements then go through a force gradient. Which is a spring-loaded push pull tube. Once the system is set the controls work as normal, but if for some reason the pilot's hands or feet come off the controls, the controls return to the point that the force trim was set. The cyclic is nonlinear. It moves via gimbal ring 360 degrees.
Apparently even on powering down, the blades have enough inertia to lift the helo and turn it around!! Bonehead in passenger seat misses experience by filming on phone!!

korean?
Want to know about flying Hueys in Vietnam? Read Robert Mason's book Chickenhawk, most enjoyable book I've ever read.
Another good one is Tom Johnson’s “To the Limit” 67-68 Air Cav pilot
Fantastic book, read it three times over the years.
Great one. Also "To The Limit" by Tom Johnson.
@@RescueFrog you beat me to it!

i fall in love with the Huey in DCS World (:
Loves the sound of the Huey! Adrenaline super rush with our M16's and bag backs in our jungle deployment infantry exercises...💪👍
Vietnam vet?
I always loved the sound of them approaching to pull us out! lol

1:08 ....it's always a good idea to fly low level towards a Flock of Birds
the bird is the word da da do do do
I don’t think you know how hueys work...
Meh they are birds and could easily get out of the way
As part of flight safety, I would've expected the pilot to avoid flying towards a flock of birds.

What button do you push to play fortunate son?
Starting to hate that song, why not other Vietnam era songs.
The trigger
I got goosebumps
This is what really Vietnam used to sound like
This was beyond impressive!
Thanks
Totally eargasmic sound ! Get to da choppaa
Very fast take off
1:40 If you grease the wheels there, the postman won't come xD
Dang the camera angle made it look like he was crabbing it the whole time and I kept saying to myself, right peddle Clyde.
The top apex os simplicity and design. You cannot replace this helicopter it's too dam reliable.
This man can fly a irl helicopters high speeds at low level I’m over here struggling on how to turn on a ace combat jet

you can get a d model to do anything you want with no more movement than a silver dollar.

Balls of steel those one who flew this ones in vietnam what a bullet magnet with that all crystal cockpt
this is crazy. and dope.
Thanks for the lift.
Memories...
Thumbs down for the left seat guy filming in portrait orientation. #verticalvideosyndrome
Pretty sure that is snapchat, where you want to record in portrait.
put the damn phone down and enjoy the ride
loved the speed and quick maneuver. Is the Pilot ex-Military?
Ucking awesome!
Way cool... Is that Flahrida....?
Damn, I'm not allowed to wear my smoking in that thing? What a pity.
We be going to Vietnam with this one.
Let me Go with him please!

I was waiting for Fortunate Son to play 😆😆
Where is the fortunate son switch
Is this Huey a 205 or a 212 or what? What year was it built in?
UH1H/1964
*Fortunate Son increases* 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Florida???
This is how helicopter cockpit video should be...instead of wearing a camera on your head that makes video unsteady
Why are the top windows green? Just the tint? Or a specific reason?
To keep the sun from shining in the cockpit and disorienting the pilots on sunny days. It's tint.
It’s the greenhouse, it is designed to be punched out in case of the helicopter going down in a crash
Bruce Willis with hair
florida?
Gator Bait in the Glades
Looks like FLA.

Does the cyclic auto center, is it non-linear

Wow
i love uh 1
i would scrub it top to bottom using a toothbrush, if someone taught me how to fly one of these.
Welcome to vietnam
instead of enjoying this flight, the passenger sees it thru his phone....
Would of liked to see the outside first
🤤💪💪💪
Apparently even on powering down, the blades have enough inertia to lift the helo and turn it around!!

Very slow ride....
정비사🤔
Turun atas umh asl Dy potong kes great Khali.....Ryan Lewis destroy 101!demi Jesus!now!
Cocky shit doesn’t keep us hand on the throttle. If the fuel control fails at that low level he may not react fast enough.
Uçurtma uçur daha iyi olur. Bu uçağın iyisin Yok. Kolit konuşması
Looks unrealistic i hope its isint hes a ace pilot
Tucutucutucutucutucututucutucu ...
Yawn
This video sucks..where’s the music..all I hear is a loud helicopter..gezzz
bruh
A lot of people like that sound. They prefer no music, and to be able to listen to the chopper noise, and the engine.
xD
This is how Huey's sounds?? They don't play 'Fortunate Son' !! Shakes head.
The pilot looks way to young to be a V-Vet and his NAP of he earth flying is to slow and not low enough. Wannabe’s
