Back then, upgrading from a GBC to a GBA, I remember thinking wow, cartridges half the size, with a whole bigger game on them. Now they come with a micro sd card and over yen thousand games or whatever, and it's not even impressive anymore ☹️ I want my big cardboard boxes and manuals back.
It reminds me of my GBA SP accessory which has handgrips, and 3 cartridge slots, making it much easier to use, which i still play sometimes to this day, as the console is extremely reliable.
I’m so tired of speakers that don’t point towards our face. Half the joy of most games for me is the music/sounds and I don’t like wearing headphones. It also means you need more volume and risk annoying other people.
I think they do that to hide the "tinny" sound that comes with cheap speakers especially with all the old game bleep and boops....I'm with you though I want them loud as possible

At the rate these improve and get cheaper, I just bought an R36s for under 40 euro's, and I'll wait for a cheaper perfect Gamecube / PS2, when people are arguing whether PS3 and X360 is playable or not. Or a little longer, because I have plenty games to keep me busy, and the PS3 and X360 was quite a good generation as well. I know the titles I'd want to replay on a handheld might not be the ones most people are interested in, but Kane & Lynch 2, Alice Madness Returns, Rainbow Six Vegas,... Are on top of that list. Ignoring the design; the 405V has a fan to help keep the SoC from throttling on heavier games. The 405M does not, despite costing about $30 US more. If I remember correctly; the 405M comes with a 1000mAh smaller battery versus the 405V, 4500 vs 5500. Of course; one can't ignore the design and the 405M is as sleek as the Concorde. The 405V looks very appealing to me; but, even I can admit that it's not as conventionally attractive as the 405M. It, the V model, is a bit bigger and heavier if that matters to you. An interesting compromise between the two is Anbernic's RG505. It has the horizontal layout of the 405M, the price of the 405V, and the battery capacity splits the difference between the two. It uses the same chipset, Hall sticks, and Android 12 OS as both of the 405s. It also has its own pluses; namely a 5 inch 16x9 AMOLED screen, a Vita unit IIRC. At that size your 4x3 games aren't going to be displayed appreciably smaller than they are on this 4 inch screen; but, you can play PSP games and those home console games that supported wide screen in their full glory without letterboxing. Downsides here are no fan cooling and styling that is rather dated looking, again if that matters. It's not ugly by any stretch of the imagination. It's actually quite handsome; rather, it's just kind of plain and generic at the same time. Handsome, plain, and generic is how you'd describe the average tux-wearing groomsman at a friend's wedding. Or a 1999 Toyota Camry. It's fine, it doesn't distract from the mission at hand, and it's not actively obnoxious.

Great review...but this handheld is useless if you consider the ergonomics are not as good as the Retroid Pocker 3+ , that does the same but with better L and R shoulder buttons and a larger screen to suit perfectly PSP for example. No revolution here even wirh the dual joystick that will not be useful on many games. Just buy a Retroid Pocket 2S much cheaper and winner for the money. Me will wait for a proper console under 200$ that will play PS2 flawlessly.
I do not agree with you. When you take the time to modify the correct parameters of the RG405V and its emulators, and you install GammaOS which drastically increases the performance of the 405V, you will run almost all PS2 and Gamecube games without any problems. take a look for yourself, here is a video of someone briefly testing 100 ps2 games on their RG405V: th-cam.com/video/bObUGUB4bO8/w-d-xo.html another but with 100 gamecube games: th-cam.com/video/fdLBxdmvRmg/w-d-xo.html You will admit that it runs very well
I really want one of these but they still aren’t good enough for my liking yet I’m going to wait for one that can play ps2 games without any issues and all that deleting emulators and reinstalling them seems a bit daunting to me I could do it with TH-cam tutorials but I’m not very experienced with that type of stuff
I really like the idea of this device despite its slightly odd looks. I take good ergonomics over looks any day if it delivers. I am very disappointed though because of their choice of SOC: Having this form factor and inputs and not an RK3588 or equivalent is THE deal breaker for me, because it would have made this an actual unique product given its form factor and performance ... but sadly it doesn't deliver in the latter, which makes this redundant and a skip for me. I would love to have a device very similar to this with the capability to actually play PS2 and GCN games ... and maybe better shoulder buttons. To not have done it this way seems very stupid to me because there already are so many T618 devices out there which are slightly below the performance barrier to play the aforementioned systems at an actually good level of performance ... which again would have given this an actually unique standing in a very desirable niche, which isn't filled by anything by now and would be an instant buy for me 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ This close off the mark! Aggravating! 😤
480p is actually really smart since GX is demanding to emulate even in that resolution on mobile chips, sad it is IPS though... 10:47 I am super excited to play MGS 3 on my GPD Win 2 (I found it for a great price) that device is from 2018 and it has more powerful hardware. 11:33 50 FPS no thanks xd. 11:57 Super Monkey Ball 1 is actually not demanding at all, I emulated it at school computers lol. As someone who only likes playing on Windows, I can not imagine not having any customisation over your game. 12:09 jesus if Sunshine struggled, GX would probably run at 5 fps lmao. 13:33 I had issues with the 3DS emulation even on my older PC, I think it is not that well optimised yet with a lot of games, I could be wrong. I am still wanting that device that can fit into your pocket, have oled and run GX without any hitches, but even high end pcs struggle with that. GPD Win 2 is the best so far, you can play almost every game you think of, on any platform up until like 2013. But for that really low price, the fact that it can run some gamecube and ps2 is very nice, not a bad deal.
480p would have been really smart, if they chose a SOC which actually could have handled PS2 and GCN (like the 3588) but they didn't, which makes this a stupid device IMO, because we already have enough T618 devices, which all are not quite there in terms of performance. And given the market saturation of T618 devices this is NOT a good deal even of you overvalue the form factor because there are much cheaper devices out there with a slightly weaker SOC, which handle everything up to PSP and DC quite fine. The huge compromises you have to make to play only SOME PS2/GCN games at an even then imperfect level of performance is in no way worth the extra dollars. If they've only chosen a slightly more powerful SOC (and maybe better R/L buttons) ... it would have been nearly perfect and actually something we don't have already fifty times. Their ill thought through choice of SOC seems very stupid and aggravating to me, because it makes this nearly entirely redundant 🤦♂️
If I keep the stock OS and SD card is it pretty much guaranteed to corrupt? Someone please help 🤷♂️ my pc broke and I’d love to know if this system is a potential waste of £150 because I’ve had a faulty rg35xx and that was a waste of £75
That's unlikely to happen, just don't pull out the sdcard if its on or in sleep mode. But if it does corrupt, there is ways of downloading the firmware and files again to a new SD card.
You can force the analogue stick to mimic the d-pad in the settings. It's not true analogue controls because it's still locked into 8 directions, but I've always found that it feels way better. If you play it on a 3DS you can do the same thing with the circle pad too! - Rob
Even if the RG405V could play F-Zero GX (which I didn't test but I assume it would really struggle), it still wouldn't be ideal because of the lack of analogue triggers. You need that precision with your left and right strafing :D - Rob
Why do some people say "RetroArk" instead of "RetroArch" ? Any reason in particular? 🤔 (Just asking a question btw. Not trying to take the piss out of the guy...)
I feel like one way or the other, someone will say you're pronouncing it wrong haha! I do normally pronounce it "RetroArch" but loads of other people in videos say "RetroArk" so I just went with that :D - Rob
I cant configure Mario Kart properly on Dolphin neither on Citra, its like some sort of weird thing to me. Also with Vulcan, the double dash the screen is almost completely blue. 😂 Maybe you can help making a video tutorial to configure Mario Kart games on 405V.
With Dolphin, try setting it to OpenGL instead of Vulkan. With most other emulators Vulkan is better, but for some reason that isn't always the case with Dolphin. I hope that helps with that issue! What other issues are you having with it? Also, what problems are you having with Citra?
The design is SO underrated. Playing a horizontal handheld just screams man-child. The retro look is much more tolerable. The wood-finish and the transparent colors? Chefs kiss. EDIT: I've been waiting on a game that can play the PS2/GC too. Now all I have to do is to wait until it's considered old tech so I can buy it cheaper, but I want it so badly 😭
Does anyone sell this thing with it already properly configured. I have no time, interest (or the brains) in having to tinker, adjust/configure, bla bla bla. I just want it all ready to go outta the box, with all the included games (from sellert) ready to be played. You could spend MONTHS tinkering and adjusting this stupid system. I bought one thru Anbernic's website... wasn't configured very well. The search feature doesn't work properly. Most games have NO art. Half the game names are abbreviated without numbers, others are numbered with proper names. Whoever configured the mem card that came with my device didnt know what they were doing.
I agree. That is my experience with this and ones like it eg Retroids. It is a pain to set these up. I can usually get a good number of the emulators working with a fair amount of box art. However there's always some emulators that won't run, box art that won't appear or some part of the front end/s that won't run properly. I end up using the emulators from Play store separately. Then I start to think that it's not like a cheaper, smaller handheld which are already set up.
I love the channel and I'm following it with my other account from the beginning.... I don't want to be an asshole... But if this guy continues to make videos I will not follow Retro Dodo anymore because I find his voice irritating. Also I think he's not really into those devices and emulators. No mentions about the screen over sharpening in custom os and the possibility to fix it with Gamma Os. For GameCube you can find a version of Dolphin called "Dolphin for handhelds" that is been ripped out from Retroid pocket 2plus and will give you the option to scale the resolution to 0.3X and will make basically every GameCube game work at full speed. For PS2 there is Nethersx2 that works much better than PlayStore version. You can buy the device for cheaper going to AliExpress and avoiding shipping and taxes costs. I'm not going on.. but... There is a lot of missing stuff here...

Hey, would you mind trying pac man world 2? I would really appreciate it.
The demanding games are dragon quest 8 and dirge of Cerberus. If we get a handheld to run those, it dominate the market
also, if you like, you can connect a ps4 or xbox controller, to get those other features, like moving and shooting water in sm sunshine.

Gamma OS would give the performance of this device a huge boost. Since it uses the same custom gpu drivers from RP3 plus.
and as of two months ago it is supported on the 405v! ordered mine off aliexpress for $110 after tax during the current sale and can’t wait to use it

No revolution here even wirh the dual joystick that will not be useful on many games.
Just buy a Retroid Pocket 2S much cheaper and winner for the money.
Me will wait for a proper console under 200$ that will play PS2 flawlessly.
I do not agree with you. When you take the time to modify the correct parameters of the RG405V and its emulators, and you install GammaOS which drastically increases the performance of the 405V, you will run almost all PS2 and Gamecube games without any problems.
take a look for yourself, here is a video of someone briefly testing 100 ps2 games on their RG405V:
th-cam.com/video/bObUGUB4bO8/w-d-xo.html
another but with 100 gamecube games:
th-cam.com/video/fdLBxdmvRmg/w-d-xo.html
You will admit that it runs very well
I really want one of these but they still aren’t good enough for my liking yet I’m going to wait for one that can play ps2 games without any issues and all that deleting emulators and reinstalling them seems a bit daunting to me I could do it with TH-cam tutorials but I’m not very experienced with that type of stuff
To not have done it this way seems very stupid to me because there already are so many T618 devices out there which are slightly below the performance barrier to play the aforementioned systems at an actually good level of performance ... which again would have given this an actually unique standing in a very desirable niche, which isn't filled by anything by now and would be an instant buy for me 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
This close off the mark!
Their ill thought through choice of SOC seems very stupid and aggravating to me, because it makes this nearly entirely redundant 🤦♂️
but how does it run MK shaolin monks?
Can you plug this into a TV and use bluetooth controllers with it?
No, this device doesn't have a HDMI output unfortunately, so it's not possible to connect it to a TV.

@@RetroDodo yeah I’m gonna slap a sticker over that Sd card slot now you’ve said that. Thanks man 👍
Dam it!! I want one of these I own the abernic 353v but I want to play ps2 and GameCube games!!
ok hold up how did u get super mario 64 ds to play with anolog\
You can force the analogue stick to mimic the d-pad in the settings. It's not true analogue controls because it's still locked into 8 directions, but I've always found that it feels way better. If you play it on a 3DS you can do the same thing with the circle pad too!
- Rob
I really want one but I feel like anbernic is going to release another model real soon
same
A raw baked bean? How do that work?
Is it me or the color is a bit fade and null?
in my opinion it looks good
If it cant play F-Zero GX, it cant play Gamecube.
I have the Powkiddy X28, which offers less performance, and it can play F-Zero GX
mute city only @@ericjv41
Even if the RG405V could play F-Zero GX (which I didn't test but I assume it would really struggle), it still wouldn't be ideal because of the lack of analogue triggers. You need that precision with your left and right strafing :D

Why do some people say "RetroArk" instead of "RetroArch" ?
Any reason in particular? 🤔
(Just asking a question btw. Not trying to take the piss out of the guy...)
I feel like one way or the other, someone will say you're pronouncing it wrong haha! I do normally pronounce it "RetroArch" but loads of other people in videos say "RetroArk" so I just went with that :D
- Rob
@@RetroDodo Fair enough. You can say whatever. I was just curious. 😁
I reviewed it. I love it💚💚💚
How well did it run Dreamcast games?
Dreamcast ran perfectly on every game I tested!
- Rob
If I wasn't so poor I would definitely rock this it's amazing
This is on Amazon for 200 haha where can I get it for that price mate
what about kingdom hearts
Poyo!!
The wood one is better
Can this play Spider-Man 2 PS2 smoothly?
If I can get the burnout games on PlayStation 2 to work smooth I’m sure if you know how to work the settings you can get any game to work properly
Does this play MAME roms?
Yes
Would be Pokémon colosseum playable on that console ? 😮
It plays. Not at 100% though.
@@SulliP1492 I ll wait for better versions then .. Thank you
Now I can finally play Final Fantasy 3 for Android. I bought that shit along time ago.
It’s 176 now :(
11:00 So it's weaker than the Nintendo 3D s because the 3D s did play. It has a port of that game medal deals metal gear solid three
Can't believe he didn't test F-zero on the gamecube on this device. 🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂
👍👍™️
I love it but it didn’t have a single Mario game on it.
I just wanna play WW on the toilet. Is that too much to ask?!
Who are you, where’s the blonde guy?
The design is SO underrated. Playing a horizontal handheld just screams man-child. The retro look is much more tolerable. The wood-finish and the transparent colors? Chefs kiss.
EDIT: I've been waiting on a game that can play the PS2/GC too. Now all I have to do is to wait until it's considered old tech so I can buy it cheaper, but I want it so badly 😭
I think this was intentional lol
Where is the actual dodo guy, why has he been replaced by someone with charisma of a single celled organism.
Gotta love how this channel is like a month behind everyone else on reviewing devices.
no one cares
4 face buttons. Lame.
Cool, so clickbait. Got it
How did need for speed HP2 play???
