I know someone already gave pretty good context but, just to add, Darren is playing a villain from DC Comics named Music Meister. He’s the one who trapped them in this dream musical world. In the episodes of both Supergirl and The Flash that came before this, Barry and Kara had both broken up with their partners and they used the musical to fix the problems that they were having in their relationships.

Also, the look youre describing when Barry (Grant Gustin) is watching Kara singing...he had just described that musicals were his escape in the first part of this crossover the episode before. His mother (who is dead in the show) would always put on a musical so he could escape whenever he was going thru a rough patch as a kid. And since in the show he was going thru a rough patch in his life, being thrust into a musical setting....that look is definitely of love, but also of remembering the memories of musicals he had growing up, not love for Kara. At least this is what I think since they have had ZERO romantic feelings for eachother in the show at all

@@AmieMariah_ Yep. And Kara's (Melissa Benoist) to musicals is the movie "The Wizard of Oz". As someone said in the comments before, her character connects to the movie because of how when she was younger she felt almost disconnected from Earth and her adoptive family. Her character also felt home-sick because, like Superman (who's her cousin), she's from Krypton originally and had to go to a new a foreign place/planet where she didn't know anyone, or anything about where she was.

Also as far as Barry (Grant Gustin) and Kara aka Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) romance goes: they’ve met a few times and have the utmost respect for each other. No actual romance though as they each have their own love stories in their own shows. Trying to keep this short, The Flash is one show and Supergirl is another show, in different parallel universes which is why an extended romance would probably never happen. Their chemistry has always been great on screen though so it would be a fun storyline.

The Flashverse (Arrowverse after the beginning of Flash) was basically just one big Glee reunion. You got Grant and Melissa as 2 major superheroes, and then Professor Stein (FIRESTORM) was Mr. Schue's dad. Plus the minor roles, like Darren coming in as the Music Meister for this episode, or Max Adler (Karrofsky) as a one-episode meta in Flash.
Also, you should check out "Tha Los-Open Your Eyes", it 's Cisco, one of Flash's characters (also singing in "Put a Little Love in Your Heart")
I'm convinced that no straight female alive could possibly say no to Grant Gustin proposing to them, even without him singing. The singing is just a bonus to make you speechless.

some context to help you: Carlos Valdez (one of the guys in the beginning number) wrote and helped with stuff in Starkid musicals. Melissa Benoist is Supergirl on the CW show, this was a crossover. Jeremy Jordan is also a character on supergirl. Darren played the villain in the episode. The girl in "Runnin Home to You" is his wife. other people like Jesse L. Martin, Victor Garber, and John Barrowman appear in this episode. lol, hope this helped. also, the context for the episode: Darren's character trapped Supergirl and Flash in a dream/coma and had to play along with the "show" to escape.

For context the crossover started at the end of a Supergirl episode. At the last minutes Music Maester (a meta-human) send Kara/Supergirl's conciousness into this "Musical World". The actual crossover being a flash episode, Barry joined after Kara had already spend a couple of hours there (which is why he was confused in Moonriver). His look is (for me at least) just a "damn! Kara can sing?" as they are just very good friends from different earth/universes. They both had to learn a love lesson for their respective relationship to get out and the episode end with Barry proposing (again) to Iris and Kara forgiving Mon-El for lying to her about who he was.
There was also a additional song. Not sure if you just didn't heard about it or if it was cut for a specific reason but I'd recommend taking a look.

Hello! I’m new to the channel! I just subbed because I love music and thought this video was fun! I’m a huge DC and MCU fan and I’m actually currently watching the whole Flash series and I’m in love with this episode so with that being said I will fill you in a little bit!! They are there because someone I guess as they say whammied to another world and they made it because of their love for musicals so now they have to finish the script to be able to go back home so the first song was to kind of give them an idea of what’s going on. In the next song since Barry isn’t a singer in the show, he’s kinda clueless so now he’s just saying random stuff. It’s super friend because they are both super hero’s and to answer your question yes the girl is super girl and that’s why they were talking about superman(her cousin). She said in the song that if he messes up he can go back in time and give it another shot because of how fast he is he can run to the future or the past but he’s no allowed to do that anymore because it messed up the time line and he created something called flash point. Anyways, he is not dating supergirl he is dating iris and his parents died when he was young so he’s know, live with, and love her since he was like 11. He proposed once but he did it to change the future, but then her brother (kid flash) told her that’s why(Barry still loved her) but then she broke off the engagement but now he proposed again but with the song! I thought it was beautiful and they have a great relationship and I just love this episode so much! It’s amazing and beautiful and I genuinely thought I was the only one who loved or thought it was cute when superhero’s sing!!❤😊❤😊

Melissa's character Kara, made that face on the line "My huckleberry friend" with an emphasis on the "huckleBarry" because Grant's character is named Barry. She and Barry are trapped in a musical world so her seeing him when hitting that line was basically just to show she recognized him while putting a bit of a pun there. Anyway overall this musical episode was so much fun. I love Grant and Melissa(I saw her live in Beautiful the musical and she was awesome!!) and the CW shows have some great theater actors like Victor Garber, Jeremy Jordan, and Jesse L. Martin. The amount of musically talented actors the CW DC shows had was basically the reason we got this crossover musical :)

Eli develops a brain tumour that allows him to get visions that help with his cases (he's a lawyer who just discovered he wants to be good) and those visions usually involve the people he works with singing and dancing. As well as Johnny Lee Miller the show also features Victor Garber and I know for sure he gets to sing and it's fantastic. It's on the new Disney+ "STAR" section for things with adult stuff.

The only reasons the world they were trapped in was musical theater based was because both Barry and Kara love musicals so much and because they hold so much loving memories for them so this first intro song to me has two meanings. First, it’s darrens plan in song form he wants to inspire the two superhero’s who just both broken up with their love interests for valid reasons but stupid ones as well and second, this theme for the song put a little love in your heart could also play back to the whole reason why they’re trapped in a musical mindscape because musicals hold so many loving memories for them for Barry it’s the memories of his mother and for Kara it’s watching the wizards of Oz with her family because at the time when she was younger she felt like she was alone on Earth and struggled to fit in

You have to do Buffy (Once More with Feeling), in my humble opinion, it is the best tv show musical episode, and the one that popularized the genre.

I'm sure you know this, but too many young commenters have no idea who Victor Garber is , let alone John Barrowman and a few don't recognize Jesse Martin, but they are all Broadway (West End in Barrowman's case) veterans. Victor played Jesus in Godspell and John Wilkes Booth in Assassins.

Martin, and Victor Garber... and if you like superhero shows you should totally watch Arrow, the flash, and Super girl!

Hihi! Arrowverse is one of my special interests so if you werent given an answer I'll happily give one!
Yes, Melissa Benoist (or in this show Kara) is infact supergirl, supermans cousin, and infact she has a show in this universe focuses around her and her adventures called "Supergirl"!
Context for this episode: at the end of an earlier supergirl episode (or near the end), Blaine, or well in this crossover, the Music Meister sends supergirl into a coma and then says "i really wish i could stay but i gotta chase down the fastestan alive" who happens to be Barry Allen, aka the flash. So J'hon and Mon-El go to earth-1 (the earth that Barry lives on) to warn him, and then while the Kid Flash and Flash try to lock him up he uses his powers to send Barry inti a coma as well.
The dream-like world that the characters are in are based on what genres they like, so it could've been anything but due to Barry's love of "Singing in the rain" and Kara's love of "The Wizard of Oz" they both ended up in a musical world, and in order to escape this world they must follow the script.
Also fun fact: that little scream Kara did after that actor jumped off the stage was actually real (she didn't know it would happen) and they decided to keep the clip in!

I feel like you missed a lot of the musical magic because you didn't watch the whole episode. Barry and Kara are the only ones who are actually themselves and realize that they're in a musical, everyone else is just playing a character in a dream realm. It's so freaking fun and adorable and cinematic and everything you could want from musical theater.

I know this was 3 years ago for you but I just saw your video today.
Barry and Kara discussing time travel, he's fast enough to go back in time but it has dangerous consequences if you mess with certain things in the past.
Arrowverse treats some events in time as a fixed point.
Melissa actually does a great job as Supergirl in her own show, don't be too thrown off by the drastic cast changes between Seasons 1 and 2 since that was due to a network and location shift since originally she was on CBS and the show shot in California but as of Season 2, The CW took it and moved the filming location to Vancouver, British Columbia.
Barry and Kara had already met previously same with her meeting most members of Team Flash but he never had the chance to meet anyone back then on her team other than Jimmy, Winn and Lucy, we never saw him and Superman together back then but he probably found out about him at some point.
Barry and Kara aka Supergirl are just friends, at this point in the timeline of their shows, they are in different universes and they both had very recent relationship issues hence why the Music Meister did what he did.
Music Meister was a metahuman villain in other shows he's been in mostly all animated but here, they treat him as some kind of like dimensional being who mends romantic relationships.
Kara singing Moon River, she had already gotten attacked by Music Meister on Earth-38 and that's what leads to them going to Barry since Music Meister makes a hint towards it before breaching, breaching is what Arrowverse calls portals generally portals to other universes. Barry had just been attacked by Music Meister so he was shocked to not just see Kara there but also he had no clue she was that great at singing.

He was li synching as a guy sang those lyrics. the other man was not looking at him.:-O😲😀I wish there could be a person with the power in the real world.A little bit of public quiet singing and /or dancing is good.

Yes, Benoist was playing Supergirl, aka Kara Zor-El. In this variation, the two live in different universes, but Flash's universe has had multiple characters show the ability to cross universes at this point. This is because this episode is a crossover. Supergirl and Flash are SEPARATE shows. The first meeting between them was funny, and they both played their characters a-dork-ably, and became instant friends in a 'share the same brain' kind of way. The Moon River son was actually the FIRST song, and they were just introducing the idea that they were surprised they were BOTH trapped in a musical together. Hence the reaction.
Really, this musical doesn't deserve much credit, IMHO. The reason for the musical was VERY shoe-horned in, very little happened that mattered to the characters aside from the long-expected proposal from Barry to Iris. There never was a relationship between Barry and Kara, but it was a VERY frequent fan fantasy. They would have made a better couple than Barry and Iris as, for some reason, the Arrowverse writers consistently wrote love-interest characters TERRIBLY. Iris West was the WORST. Kara's original crush was a version of Jimmy Olsen and he was written badly. Green Arrow's comic-accurate lover was written so badly they had him fall in love with someone else. It was wierd.
But this musical episode was kind of a waste.

Yep, I knew that. The songs were out of order which may have helped tell the story. Buffy S6 E7 "Once More with Feeling" is very, very good. The song order is important to the story as well as the whole episode has a heavy consequence on the season, too. "Eli Stone" is a two-season series that can be surprising.

You should react to the CW Arrowverse actors singing the theme song from Firefly...
starring Nathan Fillion who has been quoting as saying two quotes : "I never want to sing nor do Shakespeare." "Anytime that Joss Whedon calls and offers a role, without hesitation or anything said, you say YES!"
This is how he was cast in Much Ado About Nothing and also as Captain Hammer in 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Vlog'... starring Neil Patrick Harris.
so that gives two reaction videos. :)
