- As much as I loved personally helping the MMA legend and multiple times UFC champion Randy "The Natural" Couture run his amazing seminar on Greco-Roman Wrestling at the recent For the Love of MMA event in Manchester, I also was over the moon to see my good friend and Wrestling phenom Lyubo Kumbarov get into the mix too 😍🤯🔥

I always felt that Roman Greco was likely the best grappling or wrestling art for MMA because of the superior standup grappling, I'm still interested to know if it's better than Judo. Like if a high level Olympic Judoka fought a high level Roman Greco wrestler in a hybrid match.

Randy has officially joined the mustache club with Don Frye and Dan Severn they have meetings everyweek discussing the power of the stache
I think he never had one in his career cause he wanted to be able to say he did it without a stache... _and_ without the power of hair on the head. Just raw will and sophisticated skill.
Getting older, he may need it or at least he's proven himself so he can now test out the enhancement.

Would love a video course from Couture. The man is an absolute legend.
He filmed video sets many years ago. His technique book is also loaded with lots of good moves if you're able to find it.

That the biggest reason that Jon Jones has been so unstoppable in my opinion. His Greco-Roman skills are insane. He can keep his wrestling stance while striking (upright in Greco unlike freestyle ) and still take everybody down

Pressure releases are a vital skill in all styles of wrestling. Establish proper position, enforce that position and take ground, when opponent resists, we release the pressure and attack.

One of the best things I ever did in my life was learn how to freestyle wrestle and Greco Roman. The life long balance a person acquires from them is beneficial in ways one doesn’t even know.

@@THIS---GUY my uncles used to train judo since they were kids in Eastern Europe. And they taught me quite a bit. I’m not too versed but I’m aware there’s a rather lethal version of judo, yes?

I fully agree. I have a background in Judo. I rather tie up arms for throws and sweeps rather than going for a double. Single leg take down ala Sakuraba is good if using the correct angle.

I've met celebrities, politicians, billionaires, etc. but meeting Randy in a locker room during some fights was the most star struck I have ever been in my life. I forgot how to talk and all I could muster was like, "thank you for all you do," and then I think I ran away. Haha.

Randy is indeed a legend, but what I've noticed with all these past athletes is the loss of muscle mass? Now I'm not going into my own past, but I'm now 64 years old, competed at lots of sports, combat sports included, never juiced up and still hold probably 70 per cent of the muscle mass I held when I was 30! Can anyone explain this? Apart from my own conclusion?

Greco wrestlers pulled the long stick even at the begining of mma. They build like a bull. Their stance is very close to a fighting stance. And finally, every boxing match eventually turns into clinching.
Would love the opportunity to have been there in person.
