I found this publication by chance today. I owned this record myself. An old memory is awakened. I'm from Hückelhoven, Hartlepool's twin town, and at the time I was a musician in a brass band in Hückelhoven. In 1978 I visited Hartlepool. It remains a lasting memory to this day. I still remember the English Martyrs School band and the Owton Manor School band well. Are there any members of this band who also have memories of this time?
Hi! My late brother was in the English Martyrs School Orchestra along with two of my cousins. I was only six years old in 1978, but I can remember having a boy from Hückelhoven staying with us. I think his name was Dieter, and that he played the trombone? I later grew up to play violin and viola in the orchestra myself, and I now teach and play music for a living!
@@jjonnyjjinx Thanks for your answer. I remember the time very well. The Manor and Martyrschool orchestras performed together in Hückelhoven at that time. In 1978 we came to Hartlepool with a youth orchestra. I was 18 years old at the time and played the euphonium. Unfortunately I can't do anything with the name Dieter because the participants came from 3 different districts. Ratheim, Brachelen and Hilfarth. I myself had a good relationship with Carol (Lesley) Stuther. She was 17 years old at the time. . Her two triplet sisters also played in the orchestra and as far as I know one brother was also a musician. She played bassoon back then. We wrote to each other for many years until she finally became a professional musician in what was then the only women's military band in England. I then saw her at a concert with the army band in Mönchengladbach in 1982. Unfortunately we couldn't speak to each other anymore because the discipline didn't allow it. That's how the contact ended.
