  • Train Derailed On Tight Curve On CSX Wye In Covington, Kentucky. CSX Mixed Freight Came Around The North Leg Of The Wye And Derailed At A Switch. Covered hopper cars derailed and one of the cars was partially on the other track. Local news reported 7 or 8 cars derailed. 4 Locomotives came from the Bannon area of Louisville Kentucky on the L404, to rescue the south end of the train. They passed LaGrange about 10:31am. The train that derailed was the M510 which is a northbound manifest train running over the LCL Sub to Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati, Ohio.
I got notified Monday morning before noon about the train derailment. When I got there RJ Corman Railroad Group was just arriving. I was able to film the small derailment from the sidewalk. Covered hopper cars were involved that I could see. I watched as they put the cars back on the track.
I heard the locomotives arriving over the radio so I went over to the south end of the train to watch the 4 locomotives pull the train south. The southbound train is the U404. They stopped a couple miles away under Madison Pike. Shortly after that they took the whole train back to Louisville, Kentucky. I believe I was told they were going to Osborne Yard. I know the train went through LaGrange, Ky at 6:58pm. Just by chance on this day I was planning on going to LaGrange to film the "Run Around Sue" ( L404 ) but I didn't go because when 5am came around I was too sleepy. I am glad that I decided to film in the northern Kentucky area instead because that put me in the right area. I used two cameras in this video. The scene at the end under Madison Pike was shot with camera #3, which I call the teal camera. I also made a shorts video with it.
The rear section of the train that was taken back to Louisville returned to Cincinnati on Thursday morning, August 10, 2023. It passed through LaGrange, Kentucky at 10:23am northbound on the M510. Is that interesting or what?! Oh and it gets more interesting! Exactly 5 hours after it passed north through LaGrange it went north through Covington at the spot that it derailed and I filmed it!
This video was very difficult to film. Just trying to move around with the traffic was a huge challenge. Roads were closed, there are one way streets and the traffic was very heavy.
Filmed Monday, August 7, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

The rear section of this train was taken back to Osborne Yard in Louisville, Ky on the same day in the evening. On Thursday morning, August 10, 2023 at 10:23am these same cars passed through LaGrange, Ky on their way BACK to Cincinnati. See description for more interesting information!

M510 runs from Louisville KY to Detroit MI. The locos which rescued the consist were from L404 aka Run Around Sue. Ran light on this particular day through La Grange. 7 lead cars derailed.None of the locos were affected and the crew is okay.

Man, they need to get their infrastructure in order around here. I personally know (or rather, used to) two different dudes that cashed out walkin' over the same crossing-- it was the CSX responsible for both. You're at a crossing, you're supposed to know when a train's there, but half the time the fuckers don't even sound off!

The GP 38 has no Prime Mover on board....it uses the power from other engines to power it's traction motors. It is also ballasted and helps with brakes. The only "blowers" are for the traction motors to stay cool. So, instead of just a 4 motor GP-40-3, when paired up to a slug, it becomes a 8 motor "Unit".

Good video coverage there Brian (Do you really thing that worker, red hat, on the right side was balancing the hopper train while getting it back on the track 😂). This maybe one of those time where it would be nice to have a drone to get some additional, excellent coverage (Bought a DJI 3 for my son and the video quality is amazing). • @HolidayDecorator
      @HolidayDecorator ปีที่แล้ว

@@philipgreene8952totally disagree with you. I have seen a lot of very excellent videos with drones being used by railfans. At first they may not be as good, but once they get the hang of it those videos from a drone are many times far superior than any ground shots or video one can take.
Having and using a drone really enhances many of the train videos I watch.
And I'm sure Brian aka JawTooth would do a superior job with one, just as he does with his ground based photo/video work.
And using a drone would only make these videos even better.
Especially in areas where it's either difficult, or impossible to access from ground level.
Video drones "improve" videos, not make them worse.

On a Tuesday watching a derailment another oh great video so I think they tried hard to move those railcars it happens anytime. When RJ coreman involved it's entertainment for everybody and they slowly push the car that is mostly damaged. Truly interesting it's a CSX SpongeBob unit switching.

Did you grow up near the railroad or did you develop an interest later?

@jameschristiansson3137 Yes. My grandmothers house was next to the CC Line in eastern Kentucky and my aunt lived near DeCoursey Yard not far from this crossing.
