13 Handicap Golf: Finally Playing My Best (Rhuddlan GC)

A round of golf at Rhuddlan golf course in North Wales. It's a par 72 hole course that was 6266 yards from the men's yellow tees.
The green fee was £25 for a round in August 2022.

I'm James, a golfer with a dodgy swing now playing off a 13 handicap. I had taken 4 golf lessons to improve my swing on the day of play.
I'm looking to continuously 90 after taking some golf lessons. Even if I don't shoot a good score I always enjoy strolling around the fairways of North Wales, UK :-)

You’ve improved so much over the course of this season - been watching with interest! On the whole your putting and course management is mustard!! Another 12 months and you’ll be comfortably playing off less than 10 👌🏻👏🏼

James, for those of us who have watched you for a while, it is EASY to see how much you have improved sir.
What stood out to me the most on this round, was how solid your long putts were. You had many long putts that you got very close to the hole, leaving a tap-in for par (or bogey a few times).
In the past, you would smash those long putts 10-15 feet past, then get your 2nd putt close, and tap in for your 3rd putt.
You have shaved many strokes off your score, simply by getting your first long putt to stop very close to the hole and having a tap-in 2nd putt.
Well done sir. Your pacing on those long putts has dramatically improved.

What a fantastic round! I can definitely empathize with the end-of-the-round blues of those last couple holes. You're tired, but you also put a lot of pressure on yourself to try to finish your best round strong. Your massive improvement since I started watching you over a year ago is inspiring! This was just what I needed. I couldn't watch on Friday as my sister-in-law was in for the week for a funeral. I came back home after dropping her off at the airport, poured a glass of wine, and watched your round. What a great round. I am now relaxed and ready to face next week. Keep up the great play.

Well done James. All I would say is if you are trying a rescue, really play safe, don't try and pinch an extra 10 yards, but risk putting it back into trouble. Hole 14 I believe, was a case in point. Keep it up. You have the ability to improve further.

I absolutely love your game. I watch lots of dudes that pipe it 280+ off the tee consistently, vs I can only get it 220m carry. Your game is so well rounded, nothing lets you down. Mate one day I hope I can shoot cards you do!

James your putting and hybrid have become phenomenal. Love to see the improvement you’re inspiring me to keep working. I still haven’t broken my best score of 87 but I’ve consistently been in the low 90s instead of high 90s to low 100s lol
The 22° hybrid is my favourite club in the bag. When it's on it's like clockwork. I have practiced a lot on the range with it and it goes 190 yards and straight 9 times out of 10. Thanks for watching :-)

Really good greens made the world of difference on this day. I think it's because I never play the same course twice in a row it's hard to be consistent with the putting. Thanks for watching :-)

Very well played it won't be long before you break 80, I did something similar when going close first time all I needed on the last was a par to end with a 79 and managed to shoot myself in the foot with a quadruple 8....

Consistent golf James your handicap mark looks about right to me your approach game and putting was good think you can improve your driving and long game and keep practicing your chipping and bunker play if you hope to get to single figures
Was gutted for you on the 17th green 😱 but taking the positives, good play for 16 holes.

Disappointed with an 82 and 6 shots better than my pb on this course. I would have definitely taken that at the start of the round! It's amazing how the birdies help the scorecard as a mid handicapper. Thanks for watching :-)

Well done mate. Should have hit 80 there at the end unlucky. I was aiming break 80 this year but game taken a turn for the worse barely break 90 when I play. Golf a hard game.

James, what application are you using to track your golf shots? Is it Shot Tracer?
Your game is really consistent nowadays mate and your making alot more of those 10ft or more putts. Single figure handicap aim for next year perhaps🤔👍

Well done James. You said before that ’golf is a funny old game’, and so it was today. I think the last video you posted was a bit of a disaster if I recall correctly, but today, a complete change around and a great score. Such a shame about the last 2 holes, but well done.

Cheers Alison, I'm currently not a member anywhere. I usually play at twilight at the courses in this area for reasonable green fees. It was £25 for this round.
I think it has been good for the channel as a different course is featured every week. Having said that it's probably held back my progress as I am constantly making course management errors at new courses. Thanks for watching :-)

Terrific start to the round what a shame it faded a little at the end oh well that is often the way it can equally do the exact opposite, of course, as I found last week. (Actually I had possible the most bizarre round ever) The greens looked brilliant and great credit to the green staff for their sterling work there. I think a lot of places are struggling with the tees though due to the weather especially on certain types of courses but most of the ones there looked pretty good. I think it should be pointed out that an 82 is the equivalent of an 80 on a par 70 so a good effort despite the possible nerves at the end. The number of times you think ... all I need to do is score this and that on the last couple or few holes and all of a sudden it goes horribly pear shaped 🙄🤐 . Oh well .... Happy days! 🙂

Really well played James!hitting the ball well and your putting was excellent bar the last couple of holes.Think at one hole early on you rushed a bit think I could see a buggy on the fairway behind you maybe you were worried about holding him up and I think you let him play through as I didn’t see it after that.Wee rush of blood to the head last two chasing a sub eighty round.Keep playing like this and you will break into seventies soon enough.Again well done on a cracking score!All the best.

How did you go from 27 handicap too 13 in 9 months? Is this offical handicap?
I go by the Golfshot app which tracks all my scores. My true club handicap would probably be a point or 2 lower. I play different courses all the time meaning I make simple course management errors in nearly every round. I will make a video soon detailing the big changes that helped me drop from 27 to 12 hcp.
