Will you be livestreaming an actual scan, showing people performing scans on different objects, or lifting any embargo at that point for reviewers to demonstrate how the process works? I have a creality scanner and I'm considering moving but I want to see how this actually performs, not marketing videos and unboxings.

I just got the Creality Raptor Scanner....this looks quite similar but the Software side of things has me wondering if i should sell the Raptor and jump on this?
So I find the Revopoint software leagues ahead of the Crealoty software. But that can really be down to personal preference and how much control you want.
@Daniel-dp7ey That's a really good question and honestly I don't know for sure. I imagine the angle of the scanners need to be something specific work best so that determines a lot about the shape. But it could easily be the factory idea.
@kbruin79 I'm yet to do a side by side. First impressions is hard edges could be a bit better/sharper but I'm not sure detail is hugely increased other than that. I will have a side by side video though later on so that will have side by side comparisons between this and the MINI2
@@ArtisansofVaul Thank you for the insight. i have the mini 1 and trying to decide whether to back the campaign or just get the mini2. Not having to use the scanning spray is a welcomed feature but it would be great to see if MetroX produces a better model over the minis. Looking forward to the comparison video.
@kbruin79 At the moment I was trying to compare and that made the conditions best for the other scanner (not the metroX). I will do some "lopsided" tests too (not sprayed for the metroX)
Is this ok for scanning people? Or not recommended due to the laser going into the eye? If that's the case is the POP3 still the best for scanning people?
@TheRealGreeble I would firmly stay away from that because it's a blue laser, that shouldnt be going in/near peoples eyes. POP3 or MIRACO is the right choice for that 👍🏻
I'm really interested in this. If you do not need to cover the model/object in spray first and it is still accurate, that is huge to me. I'm also curious about those reg-dots. Is that something we can just print out at home on sticker paper or does it need to be theirs?
They don’t have to be Revopoint’s and can be bought on Amazon etc. I think they need to be reflective though as the only ones I’ve used/seen are, I might be wrong though.

@que_dijo Yep. Similar enough that if it's working for you as it is upgrading wasn't hugely needed. I find the amount of things I scan with deep insets made the lights on the MINI2 very helpful but that could be solved with a light setup seperate to the scanner as well

@Shadowofthenight-l5d I'm so limited on what I can say it would be almost pointless to comment on it. I can basically say it works. The full review I will do comparison of the scanning process (a bit) and then compare it to other Revopoint scanners (like the MINI2 for small objects) so if in doubt I would consider waiting for that. Sorry. I'm kind of regretting the video because it seems to have caused more annoyance for people than just not posting it and waiting until I can put out the full review.

I'll put posting up some pictures hopefully when I'm back from a work trip of some scans. Originally that was just going to be on Instagram but I can post them on Facebook too so people can check them out.
@rob_over_9000 Most companies do it. In fact all that I know of limit the release of information until they have decided it can be put out. I actually feel pretty bad that this has somehow cast Revopoint in a bad light as them letting me put out the unboxing before the kickstarter was very generocomfor a company to do. I've asked others to allow this before and they were very firm in their "no" answer. From some of the comments from people I now see why they may have been so hard lined about it. Releasing some information seems to put people in a suspicious mindset.

I backed the Pop2 when that was on Kickstarter. At the time I didn't know too much in CAD modeling and it sat around unused for a while. Ended up selling it for literally the same price I bought it for thanks to the Kickstarter discount. Now that I do know quite a bit more in CAD, I'm again in the market for a scanner and got the email from Revopoint about this one. I chatted with a few companies at Rapid TCT and figured I would put it off for a bit since the laser units were too expensive (I do automotive). This will be a massive cost decrease if it is successful at what it's trying to do. Checked if there were any sneak preview videos out and appreciate saying what you can while they put the polish on the final product. Hope that link at least gives you Karma points. Used it to make my backing. December is not too far away.
@bobbygaglione7553 Yeah I assume Revopoint are using the link to track if people are using it for their own marketing research, not sure. Good that you managed to get your money back on the POP2 if it wasn't of much use to you at the time.
@unicyclechinese3125 I mean Revopoint have a good reputation for a reason. Im not shocked and I imagine a good load of the best offers are already gone. It's why I wanted to make the video for the heads up.

@SirChickenMacNugget They will be gone before I can put the video out realistically (they will probably go in the first hour, maybe less, which is why I wanted to put out this video. It might be closer to the end of the campaign honestly so I can have a really good play. It's the only way I'm likely to find any faults/issues and I've been away all week on work and then its my honeymoon. But I don't want to just put out a review saying everything is awesome without being pretty positive it is.

The people in the comments that don't seem to understand (or care?) that this guy is legally not allowed to show more about the scanner than he did, need to calm down. I wouldn't have known about the kickstarter in time to get access to the early bird price if he hadn't posted this video. Am I going to go for it? I haven't decided yet. I will probably wait for his video that is a full review. I'd rather pay a bit more money if I decide to buy it, than risk paying for it and finding out after it isn't right for me. But I'm not angry at the YT guy for following a legally binding contract that prevents him from showing more now. It amazes me how entitled and demanding that some people are when it comes to free services. He is NOT charging you to watch the video. Yet some of you are treating him like you own him. Honestly I was surprised that Revopoint wanted any videos up before the Kickstarter, most companies don't because it could back fire.... Good video though now I've actually had time to watch it. I'm a bit surprised you only knew of the Kickstarter due to this video though, I only knew about this video because a mate of mine and I were talking about the scanner for a wee while before the launch, and he showed me this video before the launch. I think I knew about the scanner for about a week before the launch, but knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it and then as soon as I saw the price I was like.... Yep take my money ASAP 😂
I would not jump on the early bird price, that 300 is peanuts if it ends up sitting on the shelf gathering dust because it is major PIA to use, like my Einstar handheld, it's very finicky to use, having to deal with dots on featureless surfaces is really annoying, and I mostly need it for car parts, metallic, black, etc - so spray is a must I really regret the purchase, tbh should have returned it during the first month, but I thought getting new PC hardware to run the unoptimized software faster would help - it did help, but not as much as I hoped, so that ended up costing 1k for scanner and 1.5k for PC upgrades, and it is still PIA to use most of the time and positive reviews are 100% from people who got theirs for free to review, I wouldn't complain also if someone gifted it to me hence I'd wait for this to be available from Amazon at their retail price, so that you can return it if it doesn't meet expectations, that is the only way to deal with these expensive gadget developers these days, because they pay for positive reviews and make pretty demo videos, and when you try to use it in exact same circumstances - it just doesn't work
@dsfs17987 couldn't disagree with anything you've said. If in doubt don't purchase yet and wait, the 1k price is still shockingly good value compared to the competition. I also agree on the annoyance of people blatantly putting our positive reviews because they have been given or paid for a review. I understand it, I have had 3 reviews not be published as the companies in question demand to see the video before release and wanted me to take off any negative points, I refused, we parted ways and I sent back their hardware. I can see why some reviews are like that because of this but I agree it's disappointing if someone reviews without identifying any flaws. An example here would be currently there isn't going to be a mobile app compatibility for this. For me that's not a huge issue because of what I scan but I will highlight it as a concern for those that do. I'll also report anything else as well both positive and negative and compare to other scanners so people know to get what will work for them. Hopefully the full review will give the more detailed approach you're looking for, that just wasn't the remit of this one.
I can’t believe the price, metro grade scanners like that device have been low priced at £10k, going easily to £30k and more, the creality raptorX is £5k, so for $650 on kickstarter this is really accessible by many people. I just hope their software can meet expectation. I kickstarter’d the miraco and wasn’t super impressed mainly due to wanting to scan larger objects and dotting and spraying everything to stop it losing tracking made it unviable.
@DigitalArtisan77 👍🏻 Very much agree on the price. I would say if you're scanning larger flat objects I would imagine you're going to need to dot things as well. Below that £10k price range it's unfortunately a bit of an inevitability.
@@ArtisansofVaul yeah you might be right but I think that’s scanning regardless of price at the moment because I don’t see any technology missing (I.e. the lasers) between the metroX and the £10k+ ones.

@patricksmith3669 yeah definetly not for scanning people. Most scanners use blue light and it's strongly advised against. The POP3 is probably what you're after. Or the MIRACO. @darrennew8211 Yeah I was REALLY surprised at the price. That's about the same as I got the original MINI on the kickstarter I think and this is much more complex.
Honestly, unless you can show me "here it is scanning a miniature and here's what it looks like in blender versus the original STL," I'm not interested in the video. I get that the price is good and all this, but you know your audience. You have the device literally in hand. The fact that you aren't showing it off in action does not fill me with confidence in the product being able to do the things your audience would want to use it for.
@parallaxgames I'm not going to get myself in legal issues by putting out videos of something before I'm allowed. I totally get your logic of not wanting to buy something before it's shown in full, I would feel the same honestly, but I also didn't want people that view the channel to not be given an opportunity to get something in advance.

I need proofs, you dont need to use them on anything that is copyrighted or trademarked, just a complex model that shows how usable the device is and what kind of details it can reach, in order for us to infer if it's of any use for us.
@@flanbeau I'm literally not allowed to show anything. I can show the device and what's in the box (which is more than anything else I've seen put out) to get an idea of what's there. I'm sure there will be more reviews from others (if you don't like my way of doing things) and me. If you've seen my other scanner reviews you'll know I'll be doing exactly what you're asking, I'm just not allowed to yet.

I suppose my real complaint is that the terms of the NDA are a disservice to you, because it sets you up for this kind of audience interaction that probably frustrates both sides. I didn't think anyone is mad at you, or they wouldn't be if they have the situation any consideration, but it must be as much as aggravation to you as it is to viewers.
@parallaxgames I get your point. To be fair, the cause of the issue was mine. If I hadn't pushed I wouldn't have made this video and just done the review when I could do. I (possibly incorrectly) thought people would generally appreciate being given a heads up about the kickstarter and the information I could give in advance (the unboxing). I will bare in mind the results/comments seem to show otherwise and I won't push a company to let me give out extra information early in the future when I cant do a full review. It seems to not be worth the hassle.
It’s pretty sketchy they won’t let you show it in action before we fork over money for it. I’ll wait for reviews and the full price. Rather potentially lose $200-$300 instead of $800.
@rob_over_9000 totally agree with that choice. I don't think sketchy is the right word, it was nice they let me put out an unboxing before the kickstarter was actually began and understandable they limited me at that. They are meant to have their own video of it being used live on the 16th if that's of interest and I will put up some photos as posts of scans when I'm back from a work trip and then the full review will be later as I do want to use it more to find any concerns/etc to do a proper review in depth.
My opinion as a tabletop 3d printing guy is: go big or go home. You either drop couple thousands dollars on solid, professional desktop scanner and get workable scans of minis/figurines, or you don't bother at all. I do not believe anything similar to the product being shilled here can produce half decent scans.
@krzysztofkurdziel6742 I can't totally disagree with that. If you want to be able to scan and then just print immediately you're completely right. But I've been using the MINI and the MINI2 for years to be able to make parts to fit on the original models and it works very well.

But it's more like the 17th 1am for us because if it's about 8pm ET of the 16th it will make it 1am on the 17th for us in the UK.... The one things I'd love to know which you probably can't say yet, is whether or not you can just connect it to your phone like the original POP used to. I know it'll need more power though... But it's cool that everything in the box is what you can get in the standard edition of the scanner. My mate thought you'd have to buy the turn table and stuff.... I did on the other hand buy the large turn table too

Why is the chassis so similar to other scanners like the Creality Raptor, or is it generally a good form factor for this type of scanner?

@RoseKindred So you can use white dots I believe (I'd need to check) but these have a slight shine and seem to work better.

I ended up pledging to the kickstarter after watching your video :) Did the turntable come with the scanner, or was that extra?

This is poor. Another reviewer has been honest and said the software isn't ready. Not sure why you aren't being honest about this, pretty sus.

@ElectroBlep Thanks so much man. People's comments will never stop me making videos, instead it's the thoughtful and honest comments from people like you that keep me doing it. You clearly get it where thone that just want to be entitled do not. I think whatever you decide you've taken the info I've been able to provide to make a sensible choice and the discount will be good whatever. Or you might decide not to get it at all and that's also all good if you think it's not for you once I've been able to put out a more full video.

Honestly I was surprised that Revopoint wanted any videos up before the Kickstarter, most companies don't because it could back fire.... Good video though now I've actually had time to watch it.
I'm a bit surprised you only knew of the Kickstarter due to this video though, I only knew about this video because a mate of mine and I were talking about the scanner for a wee while before the launch, and he showed me this video before the launch. I think I knew about the scanner for about a week before the launch, but knew I had to have it as soon as I saw it and then as soon as I saw the price I was like.... Yep take my money ASAP 😂
I would not jump on the early bird price, that 300 is peanuts if it ends up sitting on the shelf gathering dust because it is major PIA to use, like my Einstar handheld, it's very finicky to use, having to deal with dots on featureless surfaces is really annoying, and I mostly need it for car parts, metallic, black, etc - so spray is a must
I really regret the purchase, tbh should have returned it during the first month, but I thought getting new PC hardware to run the unoptimized software faster would help - it did help, but not as much as I hoped, so that ended up costing 1k for scanner and 1.5k for PC upgrades, and it is still PIA to use most of the time
and positive reviews are 100% from people who got theirs for free to review, I wouldn't complain also if someone gifted it to me
hence I'd wait for this to be available from Amazon at their retail price, so that you can return it if it doesn't meet expectations, that is the only way to deal with these expensive gadget developers these days, because they pay for positive reviews and make pretty demo videos, and when you try to use it in exact same circumstances - it just doesn't work
@dsfs17987 couldn't disagree with anything you've said. If in doubt don't purchase yet and wait, the 1k price is still shockingly good value compared to the competition.
I also agree on the annoyance of people blatantly putting our positive reviews because they have been given or paid for a review. I understand it, I have had 3 reviews not be published as the companies in question demand to see the video before release and wanted me to take off any negative points, I refused, we parted ways and I sent back their hardware. I can see why some reviews are like that because of this but I agree it's disappointing if someone reviews without identifying any flaws.
An example here would be currently there isn't going to be a mobile app compatibility for this. For me that's not a huge issue because of what I scan but I will highlight it as a concern for those that do. I'll also report anything else as well both positive and negative and compare to other scanners so people know to get what will work for them.
Hopefully the full review will give the more detailed approach you're looking for, that just wasn't the remit of this one.
I can’t believe the price, metro grade scanners like that device have been low priced at £10k, going easily to £30k and more, the creality raptorX is £5k, so for $650 on kickstarter this is really accessible by many people. I just hope their software can meet expectation. I kickstarter’d the miraco and wasn’t super impressed mainly due to wanting to scan larger objects and dotting and spraying everything to stop it losing tracking made it unviable.
@DigitalArtisan77 👍🏻 Very much agree on the price. I would say if you're scanning larger flat objects I would imagine you're going to need to dot things as well. Below that £10k price range it's unfortunately a bit of an inevitability.
@@ArtisansofVaul yeah you might be right but I think that’s scanning regardless of price at the moment because I don’t see any technology missing (I.e. the lasers) between the metroX and the £10k+ ones.
@DigitalArtisan77 Very good point. And I know many of the expensive scanners also need similar to work unless they are themselves fixed in place (like some of the larger devices on tripods fot scanning rooms or crime scenes.

It was kind of looking appealing, until I just read from Revopoint that it is not suitable for scanning people or animals due to the lasers and potential eye damage
@patricksmith3669 yeah definetly not for scanning people. Most scanners use blue light and it's strongly advised against. The POP3 is probably what you're after. Or the MIRACO. @darrennew8211 Yeah I was REALLY surprised at the price. That's about the same as I got the original MINI on the kickstarter I think and this is much more complex.
Honestly, unless you can show me "here it is scanning a miniature and here's what it looks like in blender versus the original STL," I'm not interested in the video. I get that the price is good and all this, but you know your audience. You have the device literally in hand. The fact that you aren't showing it off in action does not fill me with confidence in the product being able to do the things your audience would want to use it for.
@parallaxgames I'm not going to get myself in legal issues by putting out videos of something before I'm allowed. I totally get your logic of not wanting to buy something before it's shown in full, I would feel the same honestly, but I also didn't want people that view the channel to not be given an opportunity to get something in advance.

I need proofs, you dont need to use them on anything that is copyrighted or trademarked, just a complex model that shows how usable the device is and what kind of details it can reach, in order for us to infer if it's of any use for us.
@@flanbeau I'm literally not allowed to show anything. I can show the device and what's in the box (which is more than anything else I've seen put out) to get an idea of what's there. I'm sure there will be more reviews from others (if you don't like my way of doing things) and me. If you've seen my other scanner reviews you'll know I'll be doing exactly what you're asking, I'm just not allowed to yet.
@@ArtisansofVaul allow me to rephrase my complaint. I understand you're under an NDA for this. I appreciate that you're getting content out and that this is important for the channel. I suppose my real complaint is that the terms of the NDA are a disservice to you, because it sets you up for this kind of audience interaction that probably frustrates both sides. I didn't think anyone is mad at you, or they wouldn't be if they have the situation any consideration, but it must be as much as aggravation to you as it is to viewers.
@parallaxgames I get your point. To be fair, the cause of the issue was mine. If I hadn't pushed I wouldn't have made this video and just done the review when I could do. I (possibly incorrectly) thought people would generally appreciate being given a heads up about the kickstarter and the information I could give in advance (the unboxing). I will bare in mind the results/comments seem to show otherwise and I won't push a company to let me give out extra information early in the future when I cant do a full review. It seems to not be worth the hassle.
It’s pretty sketchy they won’t let you show it in action before we fork over money for it. I’ll wait for reviews and the full price. Rather potentially lose $200-$300 instead of $800.
@rob_over_9000 totally agree with that choice. I don't think sketchy is the right word, it was nice they let me put out an unboxing before the kickstarter was actually began and understandable they limited me at that. They are meant to have their own video of it being used live on the 16th if that's of interest and I will put up some photos as posts of scans when I'm back from a work trip and then the full review will be later as I do want to use it more to find any concerns/etc to do a proper review in depth.
Not the only reviewer taken aback by the low price. They really packed in the quality features!

My opinion as a tabletop 3d printing guy is: go big or go home. You either drop couple thousands dollars on solid, professional desktop scanner and get workable scans of minis/figurines, or you don't bother at all. I do not believe anything similar to the product being shilled here can produce half decent scans.
@krzysztofkurdziel6742 I can't totally disagree with that. If you want to be able to scan and then just print immediately you're completely right. But I've been using the MINI and the MINI2 for years to be able to make parts to fit on the original models and it works very well.

They said 16th 1am for us.... But it's more like the 17th 1am for us because if it's about 8pm ET of the 16th it will make it 1am on the 17th for us in the UK....
The one things I'd love to know which you probably can't say yet, is whether or not you can just connect it to your phone like the original POP used to. I know it'll need more power though...
But it's cool that everything in the box is what you can get in the standard edition of the scanner. My mate thought you'd have to buy the turn table and stuff.... I did on the other hand buy the large turn table too
