@fredferrell Yes, they both are 3.5 inches SAS and i want to replace them with 3.5 inches SATA. Also if im not wrong SATA doesn't comes in 2.5 inches category, except laptops....
@mo7senses Thanks fred - well, SAS are quite expensive and as i've to expand the storage upto 2TB so I decided to switch to SATA. Indeed there will be difference between SAS and SATA performance but again I've to be focused on budget. \ Thanks for your advice Mate! Do you also have knowledge on SUN SPARC M9000 series servers?
fred - as you're expert on dell servers, I need your quick opinion and advise on this. can we replace SAS HDD with SATA without changing the RAID controller card. I have Dell poweredge T410 with Raid 1 and i want to replace both SAS with SATA with SATA. so is that possible. let me know TIA
Hey Fred, I got one of them Dell PowerEdge T710. It is a hand me down server. I want to install it at my home, same way Hillary Clinton did - In the closet. I got this box without the ESXi controller, call Dell and I got item number for the SD card reader it's 0RN354 or PP805 RN354 Fred I want to use this server for the home office server, I got a Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Standard 64bit 16 Core OEM P73-07113. why not using a rack server?
Do you recommend esxi on usb flash drive and RAID for VMS?
An SD card would be better, but if I was installing this for a business today, I would likely setup a RAID 1 of smaller drives to install it on.
Can you install Windows 7 on those?
"2 1/2 inch drives, very basic"
They are very advanced drives actually. Enterprise level SAS drives are not very basic :-)
