Why exactly are people shocked/upset that anonymous judges are basing their opinions on *not* the music? Obviously people have different tastes in music and if it’s a year that has a lot of a particular genre and they don’t like it, how are they supposed to vote on that? If you don’t like any of the music, the next thing you base your vote on is the artist. It sucks and is unfair, but that’s what happens when you let 10 peoples opinions decide who wins.
Honestly, this is pure speculation on my part with no evidence to back this up since I haven't seen the video of the ace family with James; but I wouldn't be surprised if Austin didn't like James but Catherine did. Which is why only now we see them hanging out publicly

Yes I know people want Frenemies back, but the destruction from their break up took everyone involved so long to recover from, and find peace.
