several years ago I used to purposefully make offbrand closed species on deviantart and I basically got harassed by full grown adults while I was like 15 or something. these people are insane
I've been so-so on the idea of closed species ever since I found out about them forever ago on dA, but I think the Jolleraptor is a special kind of ridiculous. Paying over $100 for a character??? Huh??? Also the way they refer to skinny raptors as "elegant" and fat raptors as "friend-shaped" super irks me. Like it's oddly...infantilizing? I think that's the right word.
if they want to be like all technical with terms they could just go with "light build", "average build", and "heavy build" and then it would be completely neutral and not have any sort of specific uncomfortable language
Fr they actually get their little white knights to bully people online for making these characters, but the white Knights aren't your usual keyboard warriors. They're worse. They're furries...
@pompe11badboy as a furry, those people make me cringe so hard 💀 like I'd rather spend a year making an oc than waste all my money on a closed abomination
i've always thought closed species are... so goofy. seriously, what happens if i just make one?? what do they do??? other than yell at you for doing some abhorrent deed. really like your little faux guy! expected this channel to be way bigger, very fun and well done :]
Basically you get shunned and blocked from the community and maybe some other CS communities and that's it. Edit: Also white knights will harass, doxx, and make your life miserable. Asked my friend who accidentally made a "closed species" and they gave me their story
If they care enough to bring it up to their fandom, or the fandom just finds out & feels particularly hostile, that community may try to harass, cancel, & even dox you. So basically, yes, _mostly_ just yelling at you, & getting other people to do the same.
The answer is basically nothing lol. Back in 2021 I made two characters of the waterdogs species while intentionally going against two of the rules, “no oil spill OCs” I made a waterdog made out of oil, and “no bodies of water other than oceans” I made a waterdog based on the bright pink waters of lake hillier. Nothing was stopping me, and nothing’s stopping you either nudge nudge wink wink
@@gusty7153 Dogs with bodies made out of sand and water. (Of course there’s also the obligatory “rare” and “legendary” traits you have to pay for like horns or wings.)
I said this somewhere else but when I was little a literal 20 year old closed species creator and her fans harassed me because I made a closed species with similar character traits to hers. Another time some closed species creator thought I copied them because 3 of my ocs had scarf paws and I never even copied/heard of their species either. It just shows how terminally online these people are. Like imagine being 20+ years old and harassing a 10 year old over that. I hate how it's acceptable to harass others over concepts in the art community.
Apparently there's been some harassment happening over color pallets now, as if using a white/black/green pallet that looks similar to another OC somewhere out there is copying their character...
nfts are worse though. they destroy forests and stuff. if i were to make a closed species i would want someone to ask me first so i can ensure they will stay within the lore.
i know this concept confuses furries but "closed species" is not a thing if you want to use that species then just do it they have no legal recourse to make you pay them or stop using it
I wonder what they do with the cash earned from MYO and Customs... Hopefully they reinvest it in the community they have created, hah... yeah... And thank you so much ❤
I'm an artist, but I never wrapped my head around closed species. I've made original species myself, but all of them are open, because I can't imagine confining them with a paywall. I forgot the name of them, but reminds me of a DA closed species that was being auctioned for thousands of dollars and someone bidded about $50k for it. The whole thing was chaos, especially with the outcome and how the artist didn’t allow a full refund, pocketing a huge chunk of it. Great video, though! Edit: Also, the stealing vs inspiration argument for closed species, "You can't have horns on your species because my closed species have them. You stole that from me!" is kinda dumb
@TheDoomBlueShell I remember that part. It was left completely unfinished even though it was supposed to be fully rendered. I feel like they may have rushed it because the client was persistent on a refund or something, but I don't know. There's so many layers to it.
@@CoolMagmar To my knowledge the client didn't give the artist enough time to finish the art since he wasn't going to get a refund and wanted his character quickly.
@@RedRaiju Yeah was remembering things wrong, but still quite a dick move to not refund them, I get money is nice and all but taking 20k from a person having a mental breakdown is so scummy, like they could talk in private to see if the person was in their right mind and not using a stolen credit card too
I remember being weirdly crushed when I was younger an encountered the Scarfox closed species. I just found how they looked absolutely enchanting, and loved the idea of "clothes as limbs." I would NEVER be able to afford one, though! I don't even particularly like the lore, and wanted to change some aspects of the anatomy. I just liked mischievous foxes and was sad.
just take the concept and make your own character out of it, honestly screw people trying to capitalize ideas. My ass, i could even design one for you that wouldn't be a scarfox but close enough i think you'd still enjoy it. Thats what inspiration is - taking apart things you enjoy and then putting them back together with your own creative insight, making something completely brand new and maybe even better than the base source. Idk about you, but im not playing by the rules of capitalism, not when it comes to art. nobody can paywall inspiration, that's just silly. Do crime eat the rich and stay punk my friends
@@funkyfelinefriend it’s really debatable though , gatekeeping is rude. That’s why I like airplane dragons , they don’t gatekeeper because they know it’s not super original, even if the concepts are fresh and new somebody might’ve made it already
a lot of these closed species are also pretty basic "regular animal+something quirky(magical elemental or food)" and anyone can come up with a similar idea purely by accident without even knowing someone made a "closed species"
Well if the person doesn't say that it is supposed to be that closed species then there is no problem really I'm part of a some closed species Servers on discord and the rules of most of the species actually say that they cannot stop you from making a chatacter but that you please should not say that it's part of the species.
@@sabby3813 and that's exactly the idea. nobody can say that a char is part of a given closed species if the person with that char doesn't know about the closed species in the first place.
remembering when i made a dog with a bong tail before realizing theres literally a closed species called bong tails 😭😭 its just dogs w weed bongs as tails!! thats ridiculous i shouldnt pay to make a fucken bong tail dog
Because closed species were contained to deviantart. Unlike NFTS which were advertised everywhere. Closed species are rightfully getting their hate now only because people outside of deviantart are becoming aware of them
Closed species are stupid but they don't destroy the planet and usually have at least some effort applied in their artwork (but MYOs are unforgivable. tf you mean i gotta pay to do my own damn art??)
Funnily enough, one of the co-owners of the species did split off to make their own CS. They're called Nebular Nomads or NebNoms. They're basically sapient anthro jolles with a more focus on the alien aspect. They also have a trait sheet for neck/torso fur... _fur_ something that can be freely styled by most species. Ps: If anyone wants to make something that looks like a jolle/nebnom/grem without being banned from some CS groups look up reverse griffons! They have a lion front half and bird back half.
I will never forget the time that one person on DA got harassed over their Undertale OC looking like a closed species, and people yelling at them for "stealing scarf foxes" (it was literally an anthro fox wearing a scarf and the ends of the scarf was its arms. That's it that's the entirety of the closed species.) I can't imagine screaming at a kid online for being creative, because a concept they thought of was a concept someone else thought of. This is like telling someone they can't write a story about fish people of any kind (mermaids or sentient fish like in Spongebob) because the sheer concept of that was thought up of by someone else. The only time closed species is acceptable to me is when you have a specific storyline for them and want to make other people's OC's canon to your story, but I've only ever seen that done once or twice years ago. And these people didn't make others pay to do this, they just had an art contest If I remember correctly.
IVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN TO OTHER KIDS TOO Idk man, If a little kid with no skill in professional design can make your exact species on a whim, Then MAYYYYYBBBEE your specials isn't as creative as you thought
Closed species are so gross.. like, Don't get me wrong, I think the concept people come with them are cool and the world building for said species is creative but I do NOT wanna pay $50 just to have permission to draw a oc base on oh idk a dOG THAT IS LITERALLY MADE OF FUCKING WATER---
someone made a comment saying "closed species is about community" if you have to pay to have friends just say that, you can find community for free on the internet and having to pay to be apart of something is weird, its okay to admit its just abt collecting things like pretty rocks
So THAT'S the vibe I couldn't identity from those comments! I always felt some kind of unnamed ick at those saying it's mainly about community... they just wanted to a part of an exclusive elitist paywalled group of people who own fake exotic pets/expensive breeds.
@@pyraffin Eh I was never into closed species, but I think the thing was the creators used to do exclusive and often times free ych's, events, and art for owners of the species, so i think the bonuses were what people wanted a lot of the time. However the drama that unfolded from closed species were insane.
I never really liked closed species, but usually there were some kind of variant species that people could use freely. And I’m all for expensive commissions, coming from an artist! But these prices… and conditions… ehh…
commissions are one thing, it's the artist being paid for their skills, they're doing actual work, and if the client is unsatisfied with the pricing, they can always try to make the art they want themselves. closed species is the domain squatting of art. draw a showcase of your species once, demand money from people not even for the art but for the right to use your species. very lazy and god forbid anyone comes up with a species similar to yours.
There's only one closed species that i acctually enjoy, they're howltars. They still limit creating your own but you don't even have to buy the myos with money, you can use their digital currency! (which can be earned by, as an example, drawing the "featured howl of the week") Also, their traits arent all that limited. You can draw any ears, eyes & tail you'd like ! And the community is great :)
Reminds me of hydrolls. You earn the currency by making gift art for others and by being active in the server. There's regular giveaways and all that jazz. The designs are pretty cool, too. Only closed species i tolerate :3 Should probably revisit them. Ive had a bit of a habit to creep around there for a few months, disappear for a year, and then come back
Strudel Cafe is like this too and u can combine mutation items u can get from free events and on site daily quests into new mutations (if the mods think it makes sense). There's also fully customizable pets with no trait limits and u can combine those with certain mutations to have ur characters have object heads or living limbs, among other things. On site currency is easy to get (as u can get them from minigames and daily quests and events and such), and I feel like the MYOs are decently priced for site currency.
omg this just reminded me........ a couple years back when the closed species Impims was new, it was like a couple months after it was "launched" or whatever and i had a friend at the time who made one randomly one day, lied about "oh my stash file got accidentally deleted but he was made during the free myo, trust!!" and that impim became an official one on the masterlist LMFAOo........
I’m glad more people are agreeing on close species being supremely goofy. This has all got me thinking back to some old closed species OCs I made for fun (and without a permit, muahahah). Maybe I’ll bring them back out of the woodworks and start using them again. What are the owners gonna do? Take me to court over a pink waterdog? Lmao.
Honestly I hate the whole “don’t copy or take inspiration or use my artstyle” thing in the art community anyways. 1. I can understand tracing but past that point anything should be allowed when using your characters, plus you’re not copyrighted 2. “Inspiration” is the most broad thing ever, you could say that any shooter game is inspired by doom to an extent, you’d be right… but no way in hell are any of them getting taken down. 3. While I would generally say to respect the last two even if it’s stupid, artstyle shouldn’t be. I will not respect that rule at all. With the last two they’re at least tied to your work, artstyles aren’t ocs man. Get over it.
Art styles are NOT OCs. Art styles are how you draw the characters, OCs *ARE* the actual characters. Drawing someone's OCs in a way the owner would be uncomfortable with (drawing a self-insert OC or underage OCs in r34 as an example) SHOULD be considered gross and get called out. But if I wanted to draw my characters in a style that makes it look like another artist drew them, that artist can't do anything because you CAN copyright individual characters, but not art styles.
@@WinVisten also sure it can be called out but that doesn’t mean you can stop it. Just saying to expect these things if you want to put something on the internet that isn’t copyrighted.
I actually like a few closed species. HOWEVER I have fuckin beef with Jollyraptors bc I did a digital painting (so 1 layer) for a draw-to-enter raffle for one, and they threatened to disqualify me for "drawing the legs wrong". In the pose I drew, the legs were overlapping a ton of stuff and I'd have to redo like half the drawing. When I told them this, they said "redo it or youre disqualified," so I just deleted the work. BTW this was gift art for someone as per the rules of the raffle and the person loved it. No one that commented on my entry even noticed the legs were wrong. I'm also not a beginner artist, this species is INCREDIBLY unfriendly to beginner artists or ppl new to the species.
i find closed species so funny, like why is it even a thing?? If you want one so bad just make one? idc if its "looked down upon" or whatever, if i wanna make a new oc that takes elements form "closed" species then i will
I play a game called Pixel Petz where you can make your pets out of pixels and sell them and buy them and trade them with other players. There's a "closed species" on there called "Sunnykits" made by a person who quit the game, so they're really rare and highly valued, and some random person made a collection of pets called "Magamas" that were very similar to sunnykits and people got SO MAD. Like raging and spamming the social media feed and calling them "traitorkits" and that's just ridiculous. It's just some pixelated cats with some triangles drawn on them, and plus the "magamas" weren't even that similar to the sunnykits. People get so mad over literally nothing in that game and try to scam people and worship pixel petz "celebrities" and have monopolies on their "closed species" and charge exorbitant prices and scream "DONT COPY OR INSPIRE OFF OF MY PETS!!!!1!!!!!" every 5 seconds. pixel petz is a fun game but the community is obviously full of immature little kids and people with way too much time on their hands
your SCREECH when you saw the price was so genuine and visceral i burst out laughing…god damn i’ve done fully rendered pieces with backgrounds and everything for less than that 😭
oh lord, waterdogs. the amount of species they've harassed because they were "liquid bodied" 💀 i actually got kicked out of their discord server a couple years back because i was apart of one of those
I remember I used to make a bunch of closed species when I was younger- Wasn't making people pay for them, I just wanted people to talk to me lol If I remember correctly, most of them were really bad except for one I just named gibberish- It was like a species of dog-bird-dragon hybrids? I remember looking it over again in like early 2020 and making 'rarity' and species charts and sheets for it. They were so strange lol one was literally just a chicken
I made one when I was young just because it super fun in my brain to design a species and the biology of it and was super satisfying to come up with different traits and put them in color-coded boxes. It was the autism
i just wanna say i used to be into a closed species called howltars (no longer interested) but i just wanna say, the complete strictness of the species is astounding. if u accidentally draw the mask wrong its considered illegal and if u so much as want to slightly change the colour / add a colour u gotta pay like a million dollars
As someone who owns a few "popular closed species" characters myself i still totally get it. There is absolutely no way im paying hundreds just for myo. I would pay more for a pre made (especially a hq one) but making high prices like that the standard is madness, especially with something that someone could easily make by mistake, The amount of chameleon ocs that are cursed to be confused with chams is insane. At the end of the day just do what you like and if you dont wanna pay its more than understandable. Just be careful posting it online because some ppl will tey and break you legs over it fsr.
I love the detail they put into close species. I’m currently studying zoology so like the morphology, behavior, etc. of animals is stuff I really love! So I just adore how much detail goes into these sometimes! But when they make them closed that’s what I don’t really like. Cause honestly there really is nothing stoping me from just drawing them.
what i literally didn't realise that this was an insanely small channel, i expected it to be so muhc bigger??? anyway kudos to you!!! This was a great video and i love the jolle raptor you made haha
once I made an oc that was similar to a closed-species that I didn’t know about and mods for the species attacked me for it 😢 Also that design is adorable ❤️
i remember coming across jolleraptors a few years back, i was probably around 12 and i got so excited to make my own, only to find out that in order to get one i'd have to pay the creators a large amount of money... D: i was so disappointed and it left such a bad taste in my mouth. now i just dont bother whenever i find any cool design thats another one of those "closed species"
As someone who owns closed species characters, genuinely if you want to design your own I think you should just go for it. For me the main draw to CS is the communities that spring up from them above anything else, but it can be an expensive hobby and I'm not gonna pretend that the prices aren't exorbitant. Also - cute design!
@funkyfelinefriend A lot of times the species aren't THAT original, my friend. And I am someone who enjoys CS. Sushidogs existing doesn't mean you can't make dogs made of sushi. Waterdogs existing doesn't mean you can't make dogs made of water. Hell, even the one I participate in most is just goats with wings and 3 toed hooves. There's nothing special about that design-wise. Now, I don't think it's fair to copy the LORE or WORLD of a CS just because it's super lazy and rude, but making something that looks like a CS isn't going to be a problem most of the time. The only truly unique CS I can think of is MAYBE Grem2, if we are talking purely visual design. Though again, for me it is lore, community, and the ARPG game that sets CS apart from one another, and separates good CS from kind of mid or even bad CS.
As someone who doesn’t enjoy closed species, I must say there is ONE closed species I actively am a part of and enjoy; Xero’s. Their actually unique in their stature / base traits, and you don’t have to pay a single cent, to be able to get a MYO slot. All you have to do, is participate in monthly prompts , and earn fake digital currency. Every trait available is able to be used, as long as you have the trait items needed (again, no real money needed). It has an actual, great story / lore, and it’s largely art based. The community is very kind, and so far, no incidents of members harassing similar-looking characters have actually occurred. You don’t even need to own a xero to participate, and there are actually 4+ kindhearted mods. I have never seen a Xero MYO slot go for over 150$, in my year long join into the species. That’s my little rant, thanks for reading :)
I can't speak for all of the species out there, but I've participated in a few closed species and rarity traits were usually so that the main overall look of the species didn't stray from the original idea the creators had and/or it was a way to make breeding the critters really fun. I mean sure, you could in theory just choose what traits pass on to the kids, but for me it was exciting to see what combos happened with RNG! :3 Although none of the communities I was in were "pay-to-obtain", usually it was a deal where newbies could make one free MYO and then go from there. I suppose it might also be because all the ones I got into were ARPGs (art role-playing games) and not just a species that just sort of existed
Was wondering is anyone would mention closed species ARPGs where the rarity and such of traits are (usually) tied to more than just money, but almost achievement systems. Out of curiosity which ones were you part of?
@@Raptor-tooth I played around in a few random ones over time, but I've only stuck with Quirlicorns (a fun lil unicorn breed). It was a little overwhelming at first because there's so much lore and so many options, but the community is very welcoming and not all that strict I can't even remember all of the others by name, at first I only played around with horse breeds cuz younger me drew horses exclusively, but I remember trying out different dragon ARPGs, a couple of mythical canine ones, some weird cat/snake combo breed and one about big cats (lions/tigers/jaguars/etc) but that one wasn't really about one breed it was just an ARPG about big cats in general. There were rarity traits assigned to crossbreeds though iirc hby?
I'm just gonna pretend this doesn't exist. People can't "own" such general concepts. You can own A character. Not a concept. The fact that people are getting harassed and doxxed over this made me lose every remaining ounce of faith I had in life in general.
the concept of a closed species is so stupid. this is like a chef making a soup and saying if you make it without his permission it doesn't count as soup.
Making a species can be nice if you want a little community based on your tiny creature but like making people pay hundrends of dollars?? I like the concept of open species, creatures that people can use for creativity but closed species that make you pay is quite funny (sorry if my english was bad)
As someone who used to be in a bunch of closed species communities from 2018 since like last year, it was interesting to hear your views on this. I do definitely see where you’re coming from, though I might not exactly agree with everything. For me closed species were a community, and the adopts/characters within that community could be compared with trading cards basically, you could collect them, give them names, come up with backstories for them, participate in events with them, show them off etc. like I said it felt like trading cards but with more to it and the opportunity to create your own cards. I was kinda obsessed with them I do have to admit, but it wasn’t just the adopts it was the people within those communities as well that really made me grow on them. I think there isn’t a lot of closed species that are actually good though however, it’s like the good ones are hidden because I’ve seen so many people managing their cs like the way you described, basically overpricing them just because they’re popular and just managing them poorly in general. I was in rather small cs communities, which probably explains why my cs experience wasn’t bad, the people there actually cared about their species and had a really fun and chill community. I might also just see it that way because those communities helped me overcome insecurities, inspired me and encouraged me to grow as an artist (and start world building/making my own cool creatures and coming up with lore for them) The way I looked at my own cs when I made one myself has always been „idrc if people copy my species design as long as they don’t ripp off my exact ocs, closed species are not about the design they’re about the community and to be part of someone’s world and creativity“ Cs did really mean a lot to me back then, I’m no longer part of them however, there was no particular event that made me leave it just kinda happened gradually, I realized managing a cs myself was a lot of work and building them up and making all of it accessible to everyone was draining and I couldn’t really do it, even the species that I was just part of I slowly left bc my interests changed and I realized there isn’t really a way for me to grow as an artist in those communities anymore, it wouldn’t really lead to „a career“ and I was basically spending all my free time for cs related stuff (Over a year later and funny enough now I’m not just an artist anymore but also animate and make music, not saying cs kept me from doing it but it’s just crazy to me how I went from the rather small cs communities I used to be in to a huge community full of musicians artists animators and all kinds of creative people) looking back at cs feels odd now, especially looking at the tos of most of them and I realized that most the money I ever spent on art commissions were just cs, I don’t think I’ll ever really get back into cs if at all, it was a fun hobby and a community that really created some great memories but that’s over and I’m doing other things now. Anyways, I just think it might be interesting for some people here to hear the perspective on this of someone who has been part of cs communities for years. I’m sorry for the long paragraph but I just think it’s an interesting and (for me) personal topic to talk about and share my experiences :3 I hope whoever was willing to read this till the end has a great day lol
that's just petty and dumb, I don't personally like closed species either but I just don't interact with them. it's not hard, and going out of your way to disrespect the original artist takes a lot more effort than just not making a character in that closed species.
@@catenjoyer12 its not like theyre always going to be made out of spite. sometimes you just see an idea thats cool and want to make your own iteration of it lmao
I recently accidentally made a closed species. (But I’m not closing it bc that’s stupid💀 feel free to make as many of these as y’all want) Flighty’s. Weird, bat-wolf-cat things. Flighty’s are mainly black in fur color, and are often mill-bred animals, since they’re a rare animal. Flighty’s eyes are usually a piercing shade of red, pink, purple, gray, green or blue, and Flighty’s with patterns are even rarer- the color of a Flighty’s pattern is hardly noticeable, and only comes in tabby, cheetah, and caracal patterns. Flighty’s are terrible at bathing themselves (despite being a quarter-cat) and often need to be bathed manually. Flighty’s come in three sizes, bat-sized, cat-sized, and wolf-sized- they’re very excitable and lovable animals, but they’re very problematic- you absolutely have to lock up foods or all your food will be gone within 20 minutes. Due to being a quarter cat, they hate water- so bathing them is very difficult. There ya go folks, my accidental “closed” species which is absolutely not closed, no credit needed, and feel free to make your own Flighty👍
Im probably gonna get hate but, i made my species semi-closed for now only because im not yet ready to manage a community. I also at least wanted more people to know about them and be interested in them before making them fully accessable. I have made up a whole ref sheet for them with some trait rarities, but i havent even set up a store for them yet just because im not ready to manage that sort of thing. Im still trying to figure out what im gonna do but i definatly want them a fully open species in the end. I do have some rules for making your own free one at this time, with a bunch of traits you can use and rules to follow. But like, at this stage no one even knows about them and i just wanna keep them safe in my pocket for a bit. I have poured my very heart and soul into them and i want to protec them from all harm :,3 - if you were wondering, my species are called "Greffonic"
I would say that's alr, as long as you aren't being overly strict or charging a ridiculous amount, your motives and not exactly being ready to manage a big thing is reasonable, but again I would say just dont get too crazy with it
@@Void_TheDemon no i definatly dont intend to overcharge or go crazy with things. Like i said, i want to have them a completly open species one day when im ready
This vid came up again and i completly forgot i left this comment🤣 since this comment, my species is now open (but there are still rules you have to follow) i do not charge anything. Only for official adoptables
bro dainties are one of the worst ones because they released a sub ver of the cs thats basically a damn "crossbreed" but with extra steps and people blindly buy them without even thinking. CS like jolly and dainties are the equivalent of a white gucci shirt plain, overpriced, and they'll still buy it.
at one point, like, i wanted to draw this protogen character of a friend, with the only reference being a roblox avatar. my non-furry ass was oblivious that primagens and protogens are in fact, NOT the same thing and moreso one of them is a closed species. so i ended up kind of drawing their character up with primagen features, and then friend was like "im gonna get cancelled lmao". i didnt know lol never understood the concept of "closed species". great video (and art) btw! very insightful :D
Well, i don't understand this concept too, but still, i was scared to do my own character even tho i liked design so much. And it's even dumber when your closed speacie is mix of two animals, nothing more
Furry species being a closed off, pay to use thing is a black hole of creativity! Having to PAY someone to make fan art and or original characters based off that character is so dumb. That’s like if I made an oc based of Undertale, and Toby Fox suddenly broke into my house and said “YOUR NOT ALLOWED TO DO THAT KID! Give me money!” Screw people who do that shit, copyright laws exist for a reason to prevent shit like this. It’s not illegal to make none profitable material based off another character or concept. That’s why Dreamworks can make fun of Disney and parody them.
As someone who was harassed by the original creator of the Orcadragons and her goons, I will forever be Anti-Closed Species. They are greedy, gatekeeping, elitist, and basically NFTs before NFTs.
This reminded me that i have a jolly raptor?? I completely forgot LMAO i don't remember paying anything for him so it must've been an MYO event a friend told me about, 5 years ago, looks like i have 2 common traits and 2 uncommon dunno how much he would be worth or if he's even on the official master list anymore but regardless i'll prolly give him away for free just to annoy the owners!
I will make a closed species called a 'Hoo-man' 's lore because it's a very violent type of hairless ape. /j But srsly, I never understood anything about Closed Species. If you wanna make money from art, open commissions! Or Offer to draw art of the OCs people made of your species? It especially doesn't help that many closed species are very easy to think of and can (and will) be used in another character that has never even heard of the closed species.
As an owner of multiple temporarily closed species myself, you can’t make everything about them public and expect people to not make their own. And you ESPECIALLY can’t make people pay ridiculous prices just to make a lil guy. Mine are kept under lock and key until the book they’re featured in is written and published, then I will unleash them and their lore for people to create their own. One of my species is semi-open to the extent that I can’t claim catboys as a concept, but I do claim the genetic lore and culture I made for them, which I keep private.
I think a lot of times it's probably the lore and vibes that draw in people the most. I don't have any sort of custom species or anything, but I do draw hyenas a lot to the point they've slowly evolved into their own fashion, mannerisms, themes, etc and have had people ask if they could make their own hyena oc within my little world style😅
The worst thing about this is that you would be spending a ridiculous amount of money to make a species that's not even that interesting. Their just cute. They have literally nothing else going for them other than being the stereotypical cute little alien creature that looks like an earth animal.
I am the owner of a closed spec, but money? Thats insane. I usually just make it so that if you want one, you have to ask or do some sort of OTA/commissions for me, cause tbh, I love the goobers i made and don't want people messing them up. But having to pay 200-400$ for a drawing is absolutely insane. I totally agree. Snatch any of these you can and make them for free. They can't do anything because they don't have copyright rights. They can't tell the government to take them down because you made a silly drawing and their mad at it.
Its the same amount of drama tbh, the only difference is nfts are low effort images tied to an environment destroying imaginary number game, and you can actually get taken to court for using nfts without permission/purchasing them yourself, while closed species are (also sometimes low effort) usually made with more effort, like having a whole world and lord tied into them, and are just drawings, almost like trading cards honestly.
@@magentapotatoes7891 yeah, your right maybe it’s cause whenever I see Closed species drama it feels like there’s more y’know, like the “Rare” item effect where you have a rare item but when you have it a bunch of people also have it.
Personally, o don’t like most closed species ESPEXIALLY if it’s just animals with certain features LIKE chimereons and constellions There’s a few closed species I absolutely adore, cccats being a huge example, I really like the lore, the designs and all in all a wonderful community. Yeah the price on them are INSANE but I’ve gotten my skire characters for free, it just takes effort. They host raffles, events and much more to be able to allow others to gain a cccat. The ARPG I think is in the works
As a furry I've never really understood paying so much for an adoptable. I understand the work put into it..but especially for the bigger artists, the issue for me is how well you can draw it afterwards..also what exactly you do with it
Honestly I'm glad to have discovered your channel I used to be big in the mochi raptor community when I was younger and now, being able to look back at the stuff now with this lense, seeing how ridiculous gatekeeping traits is and etc It's a very relieving feeling for sure. There's so many cool ideas for characters I remember being sad I could never enact on because it's basically impossible to get a custom kt in that place- so much creativity lost in such a pit like that
I've technically made an open species, but I only posted the lore/details on a very small social media and said that no one has to ask to make one even if certain traits are "rare" in my lore. I even wrote in that thanks to alternate universes, anyone who makes one is canon even if they use unofficial traits lol
I don’t ever comment on things, (this is my second comment in my history of being on TH-cam). However, as someone who used to be a part of this species, and has one owner-made design I traded a random character for, I just can’t believe that you aren’t allowed to void owner made JolleRaptors… This is when I go do whatever I want because I don’t really care. I’m making them into a general design, because you can’t really stop me. Also with the coins the best way to get ‘em is the events. There’s no point in doing stuff outside of those bc wouldn’t you rather get 100 coins from doing a small crossword than making a bunch of fullbody Art? I’ve still got like 5k of those coins from events and yeah they’re pretty useless. If you want something actually cool/good, you gotta get lucky. Lucky enough to get 10k coins for that sudden, limited time 10k coin brimstone subtype potion.
I used to like closed species and was part of a few myself, being most active in the Chimereon community. Chams were actually pretty alright when they were still relatively small, and there was a free MYO event where you could make your own Cham-- albeit you were only limited to 3 main colours and only common traits. Yes, the _colours_ had a limit. You had to _pay_ to add _one_ extra colour to your Cham, or even just to change one. Granted, you could also pay with the species currency (that can be earned through gift art and events) or DA points, but come on. Paying for a colour is ridiculous. Over time though, the species became completely closed and the mods and even guest artists slowly began to grow more greedy, with Cham owners having to pay $45 to add a pair of wings or non-eye mutation to their OC (yes, eye mutations were a separate cost). Don't even get me started on the prices of adopts. The Discord server grew more toxic as well, with obvious favouritism towards certain members-- particularly the mods and guest artists. There even seemed to be bias against people who didn't own Chams. The whole community seemed to be less welcoming, and eventually I just left and I'm planning to void my Chams and either turn them into unofficial ones or redesign them into something else. The mods don't seem to care about unofficial ones anyways. It sucked to see a chill, friendly community turn into something fueled by greed and full of toxicity. Then again, though, Chams as a whole really aren't that original to begin with-- they're basically just chameleons with extra steps, and some of them don't even look like Chams at all.
real... several years back, i deadass had a falling out with some friends over chimereons. i mentioned how the group's terms were unfair and they got mad 💀
This was the exact reason why I left the Chicoon adopt/closed species on CS. Not only was the owner extremely rude to me regarding my MYO traits, but despite it being a mostly 'raffle adopt' branded- the artists are allowed to have it be a bidding war whenever they want. Which was most of the time! And you could even tell who the 'favs' were based on the ridiculous amount of adopts they were given.
I absolutely hate closed species because of how gatekeepy they are towards the creative process. I've seen so many people get attacked for drawing something similar to someone's closed species that didn't even know said closed species existed, and got people dragged into a bunch of drama over literally nothing. A lot of them also look the same, or are just kemenomimis. I've seen at least three different closed species where it's just a cat person with a usb tail, or a balloon tail, etc. Some are also just bunnies but with a gem or a bell or something. What's stopping someone from making a bunny with a gem? Absolutely nothing. Don't get me wrong, I want to support artists, and I think they have a right to sell their product, especially if it's their livelihood, but the price tag on a lot of them feels almost predatory. Customs I think being expensive are fine. Artists deserve to get paid for their work. But when MYO's cost a lot... why? You're not doing any of the work except approving or disapproving the design.I don't think MYO's should ever cost more than $50, and even that feels like too much. Rant aside, I'll still join in on some closed species occasionally because I like the artist and want to support them.
I play this game called pony town and even on a niche game there are these closed species. BUT YOU DONT PAY FOR THEM. I knew the creator and everything but i got upset when they were telling me that my character wasnt allowed. (Aparently rainbows, mutiple colors, and albinos are ultra rare) so i couldnt have my guy anymore. It was ridiculous.
I have a lot of mixed feelings about closed species because I get a lot of enjoyment from designing to prompts and playing art games, so I actually have done a lot of closed species and ARPG type communities online. And a lot of them are fun and totally reasonable- the monetary aspect isn' t bank breaking and often is actually for customs (as in, the direct labor of the artist) or you can pay a small fee for a myo that goes toward website costs, or whatever. The best ones you can put money into if you want but absolutely can participate without ever spending a cent. One of the most expensive ones I know you can play 100% for free, the artists have just built up a level of skill and popularity/demand such that taking time away from other aspects of their job to do customs mean that they charge a premium for them and people are willing to pay it. But oof I've seen the good, the great, the bad, the ugly, and the crash and burn drama too. And like, as far as the "closed" part goes, that also irks me because there's literally no reason to bully people for making a similar character. To me the only thing that makes it "closed" is if you want to participate in the game- as in, make all the chars you want that look like this but if you want to play the game with everyone you gotta register them so your progress gets tracked fairly and such. I've made species before and even took a stab at making a game once but ultimately didn't have the time to develop it the way I wanted, and also because I knew from the beginning I wasn't going to make it my life's mission it was open from the beginning, unless you wanted to play the game in which case you had to provide a link to the char you made and track your progress because, well, that was the game aspect and if you didn't want to play you didn't have to. So for my part I absolutely understand both sides here, in the end yeah it's dumb... until it isn't. And yeah it's great... until it isn't. You know?
one of my 'species' (more like a genus) can have the most outlandish hybrids, types or fusions my friend made a cheese fusion and it's the most beautiful thing ive seen if i closed my species i'd never see such works of art... though now that i think about it, it's very hard to copy my species unknowingly because of how ridiculous and oddly specific it is
as someone who knows near nothing about art. calling nfts a "closed species" still makes it a nft. also never liked the idea. just sounds so dumb. like imagine walking up to a normal-er person like me with your dog and you in a picture out on your phone, and you just shove it in my face saying "look i have this cool dog that you can never have becuase your poor!" like yeah, i dont care about your green colored pikachu knock off. i have my own self insert character to fix.
I am thankful i finally found people that see what i see, when i first saw closed species i always thought that it was like... mega weird to make someone pay real money for basically a cat with 2 deer tails and frog eyes or something, especially with the excessive amount of rules and how much they'd get mad at you if you, by some chance, made a character with the same features as the closed species on accident I just think its weird to paywall a character with mix and matched features
If I got attacked by a child claiming I stole their closed species just because I drew a chibi raptor- I wouldn't know which I'd do first; laugh myself into the grave or hit that block button so fast my mouse would break
This just gave me a whiplash, i was part od the MLP community at the time and they made A LOT of those "closed species" and oh boy they were savages about that. If you made any oc close to similar to the species they would come after you, they would haunt you no joke, also they were like, +$100 FOR A PERMISSION OF A DRAWING?????????? I remember making a closed species so i could get some money at the time lol, i feel ashamed now.
I’m apart of a closed species group but it’s VERY easy to make your own. They have basically banned selling them, you just get this fake currency the creators made where you get for being active in the community and after you get enough, you can just make your own, register it and boom. I really wish that’s how closed species worked as a whole but… no.
I'm not a furry, but I do write and create species with lore, culture, etiquette etc. I completely understand having a closed species. Yes, some of the prices are ridiculous and need better management but I hate when someone with a much bigger following likes your design and or lore etc, and begins gaining more traction using your design then you. The alternative to this is just not posting any of your work at all which is the smartest thing to do.
I used to work for closed species as a kid, and I remember more than one incident that rubbed me a wrong way even back then. Like one time we opened myos for free because the owners didn't want to run the species anymore, so it was kinda agreed that we'd let people go ham before the species gets locked away in the vault for the rest of eternity. Like you could use basically any trait you wanted, but for some reason still needed to be approved and officially registered?? Even though it was being shut down? And even then. Legit, one artist hand drew an entire creature instead of using the base. And they missed one of the neck bones. Like a singular vertebra off. The official species artists were SO upset. Like "that's the most disgusting thing" barf emojis all over as if forgetting to draw a single bone was somehow body horror. In a creature, that's whole thing was having a visible skeleton encased in jello.
One thing I will never get is how people who look at closed species forget that they can also make up new things Seriously, even setting drama aside, there are more things to be made. I've never been able to afford most of them so I went ahead and created my own creatures, lore, etc.
I personally love *some* closed species. I’m a part of a few of the communities. I think, if the species is very original within its design, lore and work, I think it’s pretty valid as a closed species Not all closed species are just bad, unoriginal cashgrabs. A great example is daitens, they are closed but you are able to get them through ways without money (for example, I own one and I did art for it!) they are amazing designed, and their lore is some of the best lore stuff I’ve ever read, it’s so original and fun. The artists in the community are absolutely amazing, so talented. I love them! I do think that some closed species are,, well, odd.. you cannot just slap a water tail or flower antlers on a dog and call it a closed species, it takes time and dedication. Some people own closed species because the species is personal to them, and they don’t want others/that many people to own them because they are personal. Some people own them to make a living, yeah, it’s hard to make money as an artist nowawadsys so they are ‘expensive’ but money is a necessity to live unfortunately so, people do this (and it’s fine!) Some own them just for fun or like be organised!! I think hating on all closed species is a bit unfair, but I can see where the stereotypes come from Unfortunately there’s people out there who make illegal characters of genuinly good closed species purely out of spite, to annoy or even hurt the creature of the species. Recently one of my friends who owns a closed species was faced with harassment, death threats and dox threats because they were uncomfortable with someone making a ripoff of their closed species that’s very personal to them. It’s very sad to see, people have forgot basic respect and decency. There’s always gonna be something on the internet you don’t like but you shouldn’t go out of your way to make fun of, harass or upset people because of it. These comments are all shitting on closed species/closed species owners and it’s quite saddening to see honestly. A good example are protogens and primagens. Primagens were created by a person for just them and their partner, but they blew up and people wanted them, BAD. Eventually the owner gave in and just created a completely new and open species (protogens) with some differences to make the people happy. Closed species owners dont owe you anything. You can’t just expect people to give you everything you want/to have everything you want.
we also don't owe closed species owners anything. you cannot own an idea under copyright, and gatekeeping a broad idea is kind of an ass move. as an artist, if people are uncomfortable with others taking inspiration, they shouldn't be sharing their art with the public in the first place. if someones blatantly copying a specific characters design then, yes, you have every right to be upset. but if they're 'copying' by making their own character out of a broad idea you made public, then that's really just a you problem if you're pissy over it
@@zytheabsolutenerd75 that’s the thing though. A lot of closed species ARE actually very unique and not a ‘broad’ idea. Plus, most closed species creators that aren’t literal children or just immature adults really don’t care if someone happens to make a character that resembles their species. You can never own/have a 100% completely original idea that nobody has ever thought of. Hell, most cs owners don’t even care for direct knockoffs, they adjust aren’t regarded as official and you can say that they are otherwise it’s then a serious problem of the person who made the knockoff stealing/scamming on purpose. My point is people purposely making ripoffs of closed species just to hurt/attack cs owners is an asshole move and it’s really immature and just dumb. A good closed species owner knows that somewhere out there someone’s gonna happen to have a similar idea as them , as long as they aren’t purposefully stealing from the species itself, most don’t even care. Unfortunately though people will see a few bad examples (mostly some of the bigger closed species, because they are so popular, drama happens more and more people hear about it, yadayadayada) and assume that’s how it all is.
The only cs I own I got for free through raffles/events or art/character trades, as much as I love the designs and lore of these original species I ain't paying nothing lol

I said this somewhere else but when I was little a literal 20 year old closed species creator and her fans harassed me because I made a closed species with similar character traits to hers. Another time some closed species creator thought I copied them because 3 of my ocs had scarf paws and I never even copied/heard of their species either.
The species you're thinking of might be grem. At least that the only one I've heard of that had an auction that went into the thousands.
I think the worse part the artist didn't even render and left it sketchy because "Well that's what the person paid for"
@TheDoomBlueShell I remember that part.
For me I found it easy to get them easily, I’ve owned two scarfoxes without really having money

just take the concept and make your own character out of it, honestly screw people trying to capitalize ideas.

Nah, fuck expensive commissions.
@@addison_v_ertisement1678 okay [BIG SHOT], go ahead. I dare you to attempt intercourse with expensive commissions. Tell me how it goes.
Dawg, wtf does that even mean... I was up for deleting that reply but out of morbid curiosity, what does this mean!?
@@pompe11badboy Are you talking to me?
There's only one closed species that i acctually enjoy, they're howltars. They still limit creating your own but you don't even have to buy the myos with money, you can use their digital currency! (which can be earned by, as an example, drawing the "featured howl of the week") Also, their traits arent all that limited. You can draw any ears, eyes & tail you'd like ! And the community is great :)
Reminds me of hydrolls. You earn the currency by making gift art for others and by being active in the server. There's regular giveaways and all that jazz. The designs are pretty cool, too. Only closed species i tolerate :3
Should probably revisit them. Ive had a bit of a habit to creep around there for a few months, disappear for a year, and then come back
Same thing with magii
1. I can understand tracing but past that point anything should be allowed when using your characters, plus you’re not copyrighted

Traced or mimicked so close it kinda still looks traced, is bad. But gatekeeping anything beyond that is just silly
HEY I PLAYED THAT!! That was so stupid istg
You.
I saw this comment and decided, “Oh! That sounds fun, imma download it!”
I’m obsessed.
Thank you
oh, I play that game lol. the community is a shithole (kind of exaggerating), but I only play it to commission artists on the discord

Yeah I play(ed) that game as well, sometimes people are just so insane…
your SCREECH when you saw the price was so genuine and visceral i burst out laughing…god damn i’ve done fully rendered pieces with backgrounds and everything for less than that 😭
I remember being 11 and making a waterdog based off of the black beaches of Iceland and as soon as I found out that the species was closed I was upset
oh lord, waterdogs. the amount of species they've harassed because they were "liquid bodied" 💀 i actually got kicked out of their discord server a couple years back because i was apart of one of those
I remember I used to make a bunch of closed species when I was younger-
Wasn't making people pay for them, I just wanted people to talk to me lol
If I remember correctly, most of them were really bad except for one I just named gibberish- It was like a species of dog-bird-dragon hybrids? I remember looking it over again in like early 2020 and making 'rarity' and species charts and sheets for it. They were so strange lol one was literally just a chicken
I made one when I was young just because it super fun in my brain to design a species and the biology of it and was super satisfying to come up with different traits and put them in color-coded boxes.
It was the autism
@@pyraffin THIS, there was something immensely satisfying about creating a creature with specific traits and categories.
i just wanna say i used to be into a closed species called howltars (no longer interested) but i just wanna say, the complete strictness of the species is astounding. if u accidentally draw the mask wrong its considered illegal and if u so much as want to slightly change the colour / add a colour u gotta pay like a million dollars
Just be careful posting it online because some ppl will tey and break you legs over it fsr.
closed species creators when i make a character thats "too similar" to their wolf x cat hybrid closed species:

ive seen people get banned and attacked by closed species mod's for accidental similar concepts, its horrific!
The closed species are just the EA of the furry comunity
I love the detail they put into close species. I’m currently studying zoology so like the morphology, behavior, etc. of animals is stuff I really love! So I just adore how much detail goes into these sometimes! But when they make them closed that’s what I don’t really like. Cause honestly there really is nothing stoping me from just drawing them.
what i literally didn't realise that this was an insanely small channel, i expected it to be so muhc bigger??? anyway kudos to you!!! This was a great video and i love the jolle raptor you made haha
once I made an oc that was similar to a closed-species that I didn’t know about and mods for the species attacked me for it 😢
Also that design is adorable ❤️
i remember coming across jolleraptors a few years back, i was probably around 12 and i got so excited to make my own, only to find out that in order to get one i'd have to pay the creators a large amount of money...
Though again, for me it is lore, community, and the ARPG game that sets CS apart from one another, and separates good CS from kind of mid or even bad CS.
agreed... in my case, i only dabble in closed species because i have *severe* and irreversible brainrot from my deviantart years 😭
Damn bro your editing is REALLY good for such a small channel
Really cool video. Don't get how you're not more famous, though. This channel has quality content!
Although none of the communities I was in were "pay-to-obtain", usually it was a deal where newbies could make one free MYO and then go from there.
It was a little overwhelming at first because there's so much lore and so many options, but the community is very welcoming and not all that strict
I can't even remember all of the others by name, at first I only played around with horse breeds cuz younger me drew horses exclusively, but I remember trying out different dragon ARPGs, a couple of mythical canine ones, some weird cat/snake combo breed and one about big cats (lions/tigers/jaguars/etc) but that one wasn't really about one breed it was just an ARPG about big cats in general. There were rarity traits assigned to crossbreeds though iirc
hby?
“please don’t make your own!” is WILD ☠️ nothings stopping me or someone else from making one, and there is *nothing you can do about it* , period.
I might also just see it that way because those communities helped me overcome insecurities, inspired me and encouraged me to grow as an artist (and start world building/making my own cool creatures and coming up with lore for them)
The way I looked at my own cs when I made one myself has always been „idrc if people copy my species design as long as they don’t ripp off my exact ocs, closed species are not about the design they’re about the community and to be part of someone’s world and creativity“
Cs did really mean a lot to me back then, I’m no longer part of them however, there was no particular event that made me leave it just kinda happened gradually, I realized managing a cs myself was a lot of work and building them up and making all of it accessible to everyone was draining and I couldn’t really do it, even the species that I was just part of I slowly left bc my interests changed and I realized there isn’t really a way for me to grow as an artist in those communities anymore, it wouldn’t really lead to „a career“ and I was basically spending all my free time for cs related stuff
(Over a year later and funny enough now I’m not just an artist anymore but also animate and make music, not saying cs kept me from doing it but it’s just crazy to me how I went from the rather small cs communities I used to be in to a huge community full of musicians artists animators and all kinds of creative people)
looking back at cs feels odd now, especially looking at the tos of most of them and I realized that most the money I ever spent on art commissions were just cs, I don’t think I’ll ever really get back into cs if at all, it was a fun hobby and a community that really created some great memories but that’s over and I’m doing other things now.
Anyways, I just think it might be interesting for some people here to hear the perspective on this of someone who has been part of cs communities for years. I’m sorry for the long paragraph but I just think it’s an interesting and (for me) personal topic to talk about and share my experiences :3
I hope whoever was willing to read this till the end has a great day lol
Closed species are ridiculous, like I can draw what I want. Tf are they gonna do? Sue me for drawing? Force me to delete the drawing? no thanks
that's just petty and dumb, I don't personally like closed species either but I just don't interact with them. it's not hard, and going out of your way to disrespect the original artist takes a lot more effort than just not making a character in that closed species.
@@catenjoyer12 its not like theyre always going to be made out of spite. sometimes you just see an idea thats cool and want to make your own iteration of it lmao

Flighty’s.
Closed species that aren't closed are actually usually called open species haha!!
awesome species thou 👀
Like i said, i want to have them a completly open species one day when im ready

bro dainties are one of the worst ones because they released a sub ver of the cs thats basically a damn "crossbreed" but with extra steps and people blindly buy them without even thinking. Jolly Raptors look like if lugia and selebii from Pokemon had a baby
at one point, like, i wanted to draw this protogen character of a friend, with the only reference being a roblox avatar. my non-furry ass was oblivious that primagens and protogens are in fact, NOT the same thing and moreso one of them is a closed species. so i ended up kind of drawing their character up with primagen features, and then friend was like "im gonna get cancelled lmao". i didnt know lol
never understood the concept of "closed species". great video (and art) btw! very insightful :D
Give me money!”
Screw people who do that shit, copyright laws exist for a reason to prevent shit like this.
I completely forgot LMAO
i don't remember paying anything for him so it must've been an MYO event a friend told me about, 5 years ago, looks like i have 2 common traits and 2 uncommon
dunno how much he would be worth or if he's even on the official master list anymore but regardless i'll prolly give him away for free just to annoy the owners!
I will make a closed species called a 'Hoo-man' 's lore because it's a very violent type of hairless ape. /j
But srsly, I never understood anything about Closed Species.
One of my species is semi-open to the extent that I can’t claim catboys as a concept, but I do claim the genetic lore and culture I made for them, which I keep private.
thats a good way to do it, build your own lore/oc then unleash it for the world
I think a lot of times it's probably the lore and vibes that draw in people the most.
You popped up in my recommended, congratulations! Anyway, those prices are outrageous. Damn 💀
If it was so exclusive, why tell the public EXACTLY how to make one?
Closed species are like nfts but with more drama.
@@magentapotatoes7891 yeah, your right maybe it’s cause whenever I see Closed species drama it feels like there’s more y’know, like the “Rare” item effect where you have a rare item but when you have it a bunch of people also have it.
this is an amazing comparasion
Personally, o don’t like most closed species ESPEXIALLY if it’s just animals with certain features LIKE chimereons and constellions
There’s a few closed species I absolutely adore, cccats being a huge example, I really like the lore, the designs and all in all a wonderful community. Yeah the price on them are INSANE but I’ve gotten my skire characters for free, it just takes effort. They host raffles, events and much more to be able to allow others to gain a cccat. The ARPG I think is in the works
As a furry I've never really understood paying so much for an adoptable. I understand the work put into it..but especially for the bigger artists, the issue for me is how well you can draw it afterwards..also what exactly you do with it
Honestly I'm glad to have discovered your channel
I used to be big in the mochi raptor community when I was younger and now, being able to look back at the stuff now with this lense, seeing how ridiculous gatekeeping traits is and etc
It's a very relieving feeling for sure.
Selling access to a closed species is one thing, but selling characters in the form of gacha systems? MADNESS!
The random megalovania in the video tho help that was so unexpected-
I don’t ever comment on things, (this is my second comment in my history of being on TH-cam).
Rant aside, I'll still join in on some closed species occasionally because I like the artist and want to support them.
spacing out looking at the terms of the service and then suddenly realizing I'm listening to crazy frog on the harp or sumthn. frownie face
You know?
I want to join groups like this, draw my own versions of the species, and see how mad they get
I have a goal in life - create EVERY. CLOSED. SPECIES. with reference sheet
one of my 'species' (more like a genus) can have the most outlandish hybrids, types or fusions
my friend made a cheese fusion and it's the most beautiful thing ive seen
if i closed my species i'd never see such works of art...
though now that i think about it, it's very hard to copy my species unknowingly because of how ridiculous and oddly specific it is
I'm going to make my own characters for every closed species out there without asking out of spite
as someone who knows near nothing about art. calling nfts a "closed species" still makes it a nft.
also never liked the idea. just sounds so dumb. like imagine walking up to a normal-er person like me with your dog and you in a picture out on your phone, and you just shove it in my face saying "look i have this cool dog that you can never have becuase your poor!"
like yeah, i dont care about your green colored pikachu knock off. i have my own self insert character to fix.
I am thankful i finally found people that see what i see, when i first saw closed species i always thought that it was like... mega weird to make someone pay real money for basically a cat with 2 deer tails and frog eyes or something, especially with the excessive amount of rules and how much they'd get mad at you if you, by some chance, made a character with the same features as the closed species on accident
I just think its weird to paywall a character with mix and matched features
If I got attacked by a child claiming I stole their closed species just because I drew a chibi raptor- I wouldn't know which I'd do first; laugh myself into the grave or hit that block button so fast my mouse would break
@@daeflowerr This is why I don't talk to many people on these sites- not that I even go onto half the sites these are on anyways
I love the bgm, especially the fnaf theme!!
The gta theme as well
I’m apart of a closed species group but it’s VERY easy to make your own.
One thing I will never get is how people who look at closed species forget that they can also make up new things
Seriously, even setting drama aside, there are more things to be made. I've never been able to afford most of them so I went ahead and created my own creatures, lore, etc.
I personally love *some* closed species.
I’m a part of a few of the communities. I think, if the species is very original within its design, lore and work, I think it’s pretty valid as a closed species
Not all closed species are just bad, unoriginal cashgrabs.
Some people own them to make a living, yeah, it’s hard to make money as an artist nowawadsys so they are ‘expensive’ but money is a necessity to live unfortunately so, people do this (and it’s fine!)
Some own them just for fun or like be organised!!
I think hating on all closed species is a bit unfair, but I can see where the stereotypes come from
Unfortunately there’s people out there who make illegal characters of genuinly good closed species purely out of spite, to annoy or even hurt the creature of the species.
The only cs I own I got for free through raffles/events or art/character trades, as much as I love the designs and lore of these original species I ain't paying nothing lol
i clicked on this video without checking the date bc i felt nostalgic and wanted to listen to some art drama, and i genuinely thought this video was a few years old but ONE MONTH AGO??? we're still doing the strict closed species thing at nearly 2024? i thought that shit was over with in 2018, i cant lie
Can we just appreciate the music??
I would honestly love to see your thoughts on cccats- it’s the biggest closed species out there and they’ve spread out to like- technically f o u r different closed species now and I don’t think anyone in there actually bothers with the lore anymore because it’s so convoluted
